A little late for Christmas shopping? (AJ)

Walking around the mall always made Julian feel kind of cliché. It wasn’t something he really liked doing. But seeing as it was necessary, he had no choice. And that’s what he got for putting off Christmas shopping until AFTER Christmas. Talia and Xander had been asking where their presents were since Christmas day. Because they were small children he just laughed and said they’d be there soon.
He was thankful that now all he had left to shop for was his dad. But his dad wouldn’t be home ‘til February, so it was always an option to leave now and try to find something later. But that meant coming back to mall, AGAIN, and struggling to find something his dad would like, AGAIN. So he settled on staying.
And it was the same question as always. What do you get the man who can get himself anything? Of course, the obvious thing would be to find a music shop. But that just seemed lame. Sure, his dad would use whatever Julian got him. Those gifts were the worst though, things that are just for convenience. Something you wanted, but didn’t actually need. THOSE were the gifts that were the best!
With two bags in hand, Julian spotted a kid he knew from school. Having been lacking of company for the last so many hours, a smile came to his face and walked over to the other boy. Of course, names and face were Julian’s bread and butter. If he passed somebody in the hall hand full of times, he could tell where he recognized him or her from years later. But he’d actually talked to this boy before. Granted, nothing more than hi and the exchange of names.
Useless that was. Because it wasn’t the same when it came to him studying for his classes. Pity too because that would’ve made life so much easier. Once he had the boy, he gave a wave with his free hand. “Hey there AJ.”
