An Intelligent Conversation (Twins tag Michael)

Liam and Logan had planned to meet Michael for a few drinks around eight or so, but they'd decided to go earlier. Things were pretty crazy around campus with Halloween coming, so they were both glad to be away from the drinking and crazy costumes for the evening.

The twins had met Michael a few weeks ago when he was walking his dog around town. Or so it appeared. After concluding that he was a drug dealer of some sort, they had both wondered if he didn't use that excuse a lot. The twins weren't much for drugs and they'd made that point clear enough to Michael.

But the three of them quickly came to an unspoken agreement that the twins wouldn't bug Michael about his dealing and he wouldn't pick on the whole "twin thing" with them. Better yet, the twins saw Michael as a man with intelligence and common curtisy, something many of thier fellow students lacked.

After having short conversations with the older man, the twins had extended an invitation to meet up for drinks. It would be a nice change for them to have an engaging conversation with another human being, besides each other that is.

When the man walked in, the twins both stood and waved him over to the table they were sitting at. "How was your day?" "How was your day?"[/b]

Isis was none too pleased at being left behind, and barked briefly (but sharply) at her master as he locked the door to his house. He wasn't always one for babytalking dogs, now did he like the idea of being thought of as the sort of old man whose dog was his only conversational companion. Still, he couldn't resist murmuring to her through the letterbox. After all, it shut her up.

"You look after the house, Isis," he'd said to her before turning away, his cane clacking against the stone path as he went.

It wasn't often that he met intelligent people, much less often that he met intelligent people who were willing to turn a blind eye to his money-making methods. Which was good; he didn't want to waste any of the merchandise on the twins. They had made it exceptionally clear that they were not interested in his wares, and that was fair enough. It wasn't for everyone, and they had been pleasant enough about it. He supposed this rare blend of pleasantness and intelligence was what made him agree to meet up for drinks and refreshing conversation, despite his reservations about setting foot in any of the clubs in the little town. Even the nicer ones.

Still, with so little to exercise his mind around here, how could he possibly have refused? Stepping inside, holding himself up a little taller than his back problems usually allowed, he looked around for the Griffiths. He didn't have to look around for long, as they stood in unison and waved him over. Joining them with a smile and the slightest bow - an old habit, he liked to say - he settled into a seat, the pain in his back suddenly intensifying. Not that he would ever call attention to it. Not with his pride.

"Quite dull, I'm afraid," he admitted in response to their question. "Been reading through my library lately but I find that sometimes it just isn't enough to quell the boredom. So, naturally, this get-together is a welcome change. I trust your day has been far more interesting. Or at least, I would hope so." Otherwise, what exactly was the point in university any more?

Liam and Logan were regulars at most of the nicer clubs and bars in town. Although the twins didn't make a habit of appearing at many of the college parties, that didn't mean that they were against drinking. Far from it. It was the mindset of the average college student, especially a drunk one, that drove them away. Sure it was acceptable to drink to take the edge off, but running naked through the courtyard or waking up in a stranger's bed with no memory of the previous night wasn't really their style.

That being said, the twins were a little lacking in the friend department. Not that it bothered them all that much. They were usually far too busy with their studies to meet people. Besides, they had each other. Still, it was nice to have options.

Smiling in unison at the older man's bow, the brothers returned to their seats and waved over someone to take their order.

"Sorry to hear that." "Sorry to hear that." The twins said. Even though reading through a library would be top on their list of pleasurable activities, they could imagine that someone else might find it a bit lonely. Especially for someone who lived alone.

"Although it would be nice -" Liam started. "-If our library had the same problem." Logan finished.

"Just yesterday some freshman thought it courteous to interrupt everyone's studying by running around posting up pictures of his photo-copied body parts." Liam explain while Logan ordered two scotch and sodas. He frowned slightly at the memory.

"He wasn't exactly model material," Logan pointed out, finishing with he and his brother's order and turning to Michael. "What's your pleasure?" he asked.

"Interesting yes," Liam said after the older man had finished ordering. "Engaging, sadly not always." Logan added.

Although the twins both thrived in the college environment, at least the scholarly parts of it, they felt that often their own knowledge of subject overpowered their professors. Something they weren't exactly hesitant to point out in class.
