Backdated to the day after Wrong Number

Avi was smiling when she first woke up in the morning. It was going to be a good day and she knew the absolute reason why as soon as she was thinking clearly.Which was about three seconds after she got up. She had caught him and he was going to tell her today. He had to. Why else would he send that message? Just shaking her head she hopped in the shower, a smile still on her face, apparently she was happy.

Since Avi was in such a happy mood she decided to get dressed up. After all it was in her best efforts to get the ginger to admit who it was to her. That would only make her happier, and since today was a happy day it would only serve to make Avi much more inflated in her ego once she found out. And boy would she find out.

Slipping her gold lacy layered dress over her head Avi smiled. It wasn't often she got dressed up. Most of the time she was just running around in jeans or shorts. Avi contemplated which shoes would be best, her gladiators, or her heels. For today, since she figured she was dressing up anyway she might as well go all the way. Silently she slipped on the heels. Moving to her jewelry box she immediately grabbed some bangles and her favorite star earrings, both outfitted in the gold coloring. The last thing she put on was a clock necklace that Avi particularly liked. It was simple yet elegant and had just enough pizazz. Throwing her curly blond hair up into a half ponytail she smiled and applied the lightest touch of makeup, standing once completed happy with what she saw in the mirror.

She was ready.

Glancing at the time Avi smiled, she had just enough time to get into town to meet Ginger at Kali's. To her it was the perfect place to get him to release the information. What Avi wanted Avi would get.

After she had caught the bus into town and made her way to Kali's, Avi walked up tot he counter and ordered a mocha latte with extra whipped cream. It was bound to be good. Surveying the shop she didn't spot the Ginger yet so she grabbed a cookie and found an empty table for two. Sitting down, she crossed one leg over the other and waited, a smirk on her face.

This was it, the moment Odion had been dreading for the past couple of days. With the push of a button, he had ruined any chance he had of convincing Avi that there wasn’t anyone significant in his life, romantically that was. He was sitting in Kali’s Kafe already, his legs fidgeting around due to nerves. He ran a hand over his neatly cropped hair and sighed. Why was he friends with the blonde again? He wasn’t sure, all he knew was that he was a bit hesitant to be honest with her, just like he was with everyone else.

To make everything more awkward, Avi didn’t even notice that he was already there. Maybe he blended in too well sometimes. Getting up from his spot, he carried over his iced coffee and sat next to the girl, tapping her on the shoulder to let her know he was there, a small smile on his face. “Saw you walking in, thought I should say hello,” he said coyly, sipping at his drink. The weather wasn’t that cold yet, so a black sweater and red jeans would do for today. It wasn’t a particularly special day anyways, something he mostly wanted to get over with.

His blue eyes were drawn to the pretty locket around the girl’s neck, that impulse to take it suddenly overcame him, like it often did with things he wanted but didn’t really need, but he pushed it away. Avi was a friend, he wasn’t about to steal something that nice away from her. Odion didn’t say a word after letting her know he was here, he was trying desperately hard to avoid the elephant in the room, but he had the sneaking suspicion that the girl would talk enough for the both of them.

Avi grinned as she waited for Ginger to find her. She knew he would spot her and she knew that he would come. He was her fried, even if he annoyed the hell out of him. That's how she showed she cared after all. It was her job to be nosy, and Avi reckoned that Ginger hadn't ever met a person like Avi before. If he didn't that would explain a lot. She most likely was the person whom at times he hated and at times he liked extremely well. She wasn't bragging but she knew what she was to the ginger. Even if it was an annoyance most of the time.

She nibbled on her cookie happily, attempting to wait patiently. Her foot began to tap though waiting for him to show up. Where was he? Just when she was taking a sip of her drink she felt a small tap on her shoulder. Not even missing a beat she looked up at him and smiled. “Hi~” Avi waved at the Ginger looking up at him as he came along. His outfit suited him, a bit understated, but it certainly made an impression. “ Nice outfit. It works for you.” Avi grinned and took a bite of her cookie. “ Want some?” She broke off a piece and offered it to him, wondering if he would take it. “Its chocolate chip!”

Avi grinned as the other sat down opposite her and smiled. “Soooooo?” Avi gave a teasing grin and looked at her friend.. “Dish. We both know what I saw and we both agree that there is someone. I have the text saved as evidence and you can't deny that there is someone anymore.You'll have to work up a pretty good defense if you still want to repute my argument.” Avi grinned and sipped her drink, looking across the table at Ginger. “I'm going to be quiet and you're going to tell me. And before you ask/say yes I can be quiet.” Avi grinned and made a motion with her hands saying she was zipping her lips. It was his turn to talk.

Odion smiled at the compliment, looking her over in return. “I should say the same about you,” he said, his eyes once again lingering on the locket around her neck. It was beautiful, but his mind quickly had to focus on what she was saying at this very moment. Something about the cookies. “Oh, no thank you,” he said, raising his hands and shaking his head with a soft smile. He wasn’t in the mood for sweets. Instead, he happily asked the person behind the counter for a sandwich. Nothing special, but it would do the trick. They were out for lunch after all.

“So?” He mocked her slightly, her fingertips laying still on the counter. Odi nodded along with her statement, agreeing completely. Then he laughed, shaking his head. Avi was still as charming as when he first met her, she had officially grown on him. But not completely, not yet. “Right, you, quiet,” he just couldn’t picture it in his head. His ham sandwich arrived and he took a bit before requesting a glass of water, his eyes on the back of the server’s head as he became lost in thought. Just how was he going to put this to Avi?

“I hate technology,” he said with finality, swallowing his mouthful of food. A small blush rose to his freckled face as he recalled the feelings behind the text that accidently went to Avi instead of his lover. “Everything you’ve just said is true,” he said, unsure of what she all wanted to know. Did she want a name? Hair color? Birth certificate? Did Rhett even have one of those? Odion knew she was right, he did have someone and that text was not meant for her eyes. He just had a very hard time trusting others with personal information, but what he deemed to be personal, those at Hammel deemed news worthy.

His water arrived and he sipped at it gingerly, his dark eyes falling back on the blonde as he gave a small shrug. Was there anything else to say really? Was he supposed to gush about Rhett and harp about him? And what about the small problem of his using ‘Rhett’ as a pseudo name? Amongst these thoughts, his eyes darted back to the locket, as he subconsciously formulated a plan to attain it.

Avi grinned and shook her head slightly at Gingers words. She followed his eyes that seemed to rest on her neck once again. Absentmindedly she began to play with the locket, trying to think of something else to say. When her offer of a cookie was refused she made a sad little face but it brightened up again after she thought again of what the topic of the meeting was. That would always make her smile, if not from the sheer torture she knew she was causing Ginger. It was just so fun and she didn't really even have to do anything.

Avi knew that he was mocking her. That was ok though because she knew it was a defense mechanism. She new he didn't want to talk about it and she knew he was stalling. She would get to know more about Mystery date, even if it killed her. She was just lucky that small part had slipped. It had given her he leverage she needed to understand and basically bait him into coming. She just sort of smirked as Ginger laughed at her. It was pretty laughable if you thought about it. She wasn't the sort to stay quiet, but she had made a promise she would, so she definitely would follow through.

Avi grinned as Ginger said he hated technology. Avi grinned. It was him stalling again. Personally she loved technology. It could do so much for you in so little time if you know how to use it. The fact that Ginger had slipped with it just made it all the better in Avi's eyes. She just smirked and nodded when he agreed with her completely. Now all he had to do was tell what he knew. That was going to be the hard part. Especially if she wasn't talking. There were other ways of talking and even though Avi might not be as skilled in them as others, it was always a fall back she had. She could keep a secret though. Even if she didn't look like the sort hat could. Now she had to prove it to him.

Avi sipped her coffee once more looking at her friend across the table. She knew what he was doing not talking but she made a promise and one thing about Avi was that she kept her promises. If Ginger thought that he was getting away with not telling her then he had another thing coming. It was apparent to everyone around her Avi got her way, and Ginger was no less of person when he would tell her. It just meant she had worn him down to a point where he couldn't refuse to tell her anymore. She hoped he knew that when he told her she would let up on it. Probably wouldn't mention it again actually. Really it would e easier for him to tell he and get over with it. She looked at him purposely waiting for him to talk. Hopefully he would and they wouldn't sit in silence the entire lunch.

Odion was annoyed and at the same time, impressed that Avi had kept her word. Perhaps he had judged her too quickly. Perhaps she was quite trustworthy, despite his scepticism. He hadn’t told a soul about Rhett, everyone was simply hearing it through the grapevine. It would be nice to tell someone, to tell someone he was, more importantly, excited about the fairly new relationship that had formed.

He thought of all these things as Avi remained silent. It had been a long, drawn out silence between the two as they seemingly stared at each other with nothing to say. But both had immense amounts to say, they were just being stubborn about it. If he didn’t want to come here and tell her about Rhett, then he wouldn’t have. He would have simply avoided the encounter altogether, and this made him thank that perhaps, a very small part of him wanted to tell someone. Well, not just someone, but Avi herself.

A second later and time was frozen. Odion took the infinite time to study the girl’s face. It was grinning like mad but the eyes were soft, and eager. She not only was curious, but wanted to know. She was genuinely interested, and not just for the sake of gossip. He took a few more precious moments to consider what he was about to say, the implications of it, and if he would have any regrets. His hands passed over his face, he needed to know that if something bad happened, he would have some kind of leverage. Reaching over the table as everyone was sealed in time, he removed the locket from Avi’s neck and slipped it into his pocket. For some reason, this made him feel more comfortable.

Time resumed and Odion sighed, “I’m not winning this one am I?” He asked, drinking more water as he prepared himself for the worst. “Fine, I’ll let the cards fall where they may,” he said. “The text was meant for...” he paused for dramatic effect, “someone I’m dating.”

Avi was intent to keep her word. She always did what she promised and had done so even from when she was little. She grinned at a promise to her brother she had made. Oh yes she had follows through with the duct tape and nail polish. Served him right for what he put her through with her bear. Avi had loved that bear. And he went and ruined it. She didn't think that it was of any consequence to what she was doing and she knew that it wasn't anything worse then what he had put her through. She didn't even get in trouble either. Kinas knew he had done wrong.

Why yes Ginger she was being stubborn. What ever gave you the impression she even knows how to give up? Its not in her genes and its not in her personality to. She wouldn't even give up in a fight if she were being kicked repeatedly on the ground. She would suck it up and go at them charging. It is an essential part of what makes her her. She may have had a lot to say, but she knew he did as well. She would keep quiet, for now. She knew that he could have simply not shown up if he didn't want to tell her. She knew the ginger and she knew he would very well d as he pleased, one measly text wasn't going to change that. She was proud of him and how hard he kept fighting the inevitable though. It just made her like her friend more.

One might think that Avi is someone who is just a gossip. She isn't she takes her time and gets to know you, from the beginning. Sure she talks, and talks, and talks some more, but when it comes to the important things she knows when to shut up. You ay not believe it but it was true, and it was her behavior regardless. She wanted Ginger to be comfortable enough to tell her, on his own, with no prodding. That last part was the hardest, if only because she was sure that he wouldn't do it in a timely fashion. She wanted him to trust her. Avi knew it was much to ask, but she knew it would be good for both of them. Trust was something that came over time, but if a little trust wasn't present at the beginning, then there as nothing to work for. That, was the hardest thing to do. Build trust from nothing.


Avi sipped her coffee and bit off a chunk of her cookie closing her eyes happy at it's taste. Her eyes fluttered open and she gave a small shake of her head when Ginger began to speak. No he wasn't winning this, she would find out and he would tell her. Her eyes sparkled in anticipation as she kept quieter still, waiting for him to continue. She smiled as he paused for dramatic effect and right out laughed at his words, though it almost made her choke on her coffee. So he was dating someone. That was good news. Not to get him to tell her who it was. Her eyes told him to go on, her mouth shut at his words, eagerly waiting for him to continue.

She continued to ignore him, and wait. She had the patience of a saint, but so did Odion. The boy kept on eating his sandwich as Avi choked on her cookie from his words. A happy smirk crossed his face. “I’m glad you find this so amusing,” he said, looking at his glass of water. This was absolute torture, why was it so hard to tell someone about something that was so very important to him. Rhett was truly important to him, and he wasn’t ashamed about it, he was just nervous about telling someone. He simply wasn’t the touchy feely type.

And he thought Avi was the same way.

“I came to the school to see him again,” he said. Wow, let’s add some background to the story while we’re at it. Odion could feel himself flush as he played with the crust of the sandwich he hadn’t eaten. He sighed deeply, and looked back at Avi. Something hit him square in the chest and he sat back further into his seat, wishing he could simply disappear. He envied those that actually could. “I...” He floundered, staring at the crust on his plate as though it would contain the answers. There was so much to say, so many reasons why he was with Rhett and he doubted very much that Avi would understand. Part of him wanted to explain, and the other part didn’t.

“You know, maybe this isn’t such a good idea...” He said, looking up from his leftover food with worry and discontentment in his eyes. Odion, usually so good with words, wasn’t sure where to start on this topic. He rubbed at his face and closed his eyes, lowering his forehead to the table in surrender.

Avi smiled waiting. She would and could out stubborn him. It was only a matter of time before she knew he would talk. She just shook her head laughing at him as he laughed at her. She nodded smiling. It was amusing. This whole thing was. She hoped he would get on with it. The boy was fun even when he was stalling. She smiled and caught her breath as she waited for him to continue.

That wasn't all of it was it?

Avi grinned as she won and he started to speak. She settled down a bit and put her head on her hand, waiting for him to continue. Her eyebrows rose in surprise as he gave more away. He came to see him at the school. Awwwwwwwwwww he followed Mystery here. It was so adorable. Smiling she nibbled her cookie and waited for him to continue again. She watched as he was going to continue and raised a single eyebrow when he stumbled on his words. That was something new at least.

Avi sat straight back in her chair, when he said those words. Ooh no that wasn't happening. It seemed as if he still wasn't ready to tell her. Sighing she shook her head and smiled just a bit. She silently waited for him to give up and just shook her head amused sipping on her coffee. When he finally did her eyes twinkled mischievously as the wind picked up, it flew through the cafe, engrossing only Ginger, surrounding him in a small whirlwind. It was her way of encouraging him and he would know it if he just looked at her. Smiling she reached over the table and tapped his arm.

“ Well?”

Odi had to hand it to Avi, at least she wasn’t being too pushy this time around. He wasn’t sure why the blond was so interested in his love life, but at least she was laughing with him. The girl even seemed to perk up as he told the first bit of his and Rhett’s story. His and Rhett’s story, it was what he lived for, it was what his whole existence revolved around. He was a bit hopeless, wasn’t he?

Head on the table still, he felt the wind pick up inside of the restaurant and he rose slowly, a half smile on his face as Avi reached over to reassure him. Her touch was welcome, friendly, caring, and completely platonic. “I don’t really go around telling people about this sort of, thing,” he admitted, as though his stuttering hadn’t made that clear enough already. He sighed, and cupped his face in his hands as his elbows rested on the table.

But he carried on, “I well, I guess I sort of tricked him into a date, but that was after he kissed me in the cafeteria, and then well, yeah, we’re dating,” he spat out, making a mess of his words and the rather sweet situation he and Rhett were in. They had just started dating. Things between them were so different, and well, weird, but so good at the same time. Odion sighed and sat back into his seat again, scanning the table instead of looking at Avi to avoid a deeper blush.

A pretty smile crossed his face then, and he finally looked up. “Rhett and I go way back,” he said, wondering if Avi would remember the fib he had told her when they first met. He had completely forgotten about the locket he had stolen.

The ginger reached into the front of his shirt and showed Avi the golden pocket watch Rhett had ‘given’ to him. “He gave this to me,” he further shared, wondering when the girl would be satisfied with what he was trying to say. He simply couldn’t eloquently say: I’m dating a French boy named Rhett, we’re both European orphans and I’m head over heels for him. That just wouldn’t be very Odion.

Avi knew this time he was going to tell her. There was no reason for her to be pushy this time as it wasn't necessary. She knew that he was going to tell her and that was calming enough to make her smile, relived. She genuinely wanted to know what he as thinking and who he was thinking about. It would make him lighter if he told her. It was obvious he wasn't telling anyone else so she needed to get him to tell her. It would be better for the both of them.

Avi grinned as he finally looked up at her. It seemed like it had taken him forever to look at her. He finally got the message though and she smiled back over at him as he looked at her. When he continued, albeit stuttering she waited patiently. She nodded at his admission and nibbled on her cookie again waiting for him to continue. She would still be quiet. After all this was his story.

Smiling at the redhead Avi grinned and nodded her head. It was all so interesting, and to think she wouldn't have known any of it or even her friend if he hadn't been building a castle in the library. That castle was pretty amazing. Her eyes sparkled mischievously as she thought of what he was saying. It sounded as if the two had a good dynamic. She wasn't the best judge but she was sure this was going to last. It had too.

At Gingers next words Avi smiled and nodded. Wait, that was wrong. “If Mystery Date is Rhett then whats your name Ginger?” Avi grinned and gave him a reassuring smile. “Not that it will make any difference you'll still be ginger, but it will clear up the image in my head of Rhett is dating Rhett.” So he lied about his name, who cares? It wouldn't matter in eternity.

Avi's eyes sparkled as he brought out the golden watch that he was showing off. It was really pretty and it suited him well. "It is beautiful.” Avi said after admiring it for a bit. She smiled over at Ginger and looked at him hopefully. “Glad to get that off of your chest?”

Odion wouldn’t be able to avoid that deeper blush. “Uh...” He scratched the back of his neck, his eyes moving every which way. There was no way of avoiding the subject, and he wasn’t going to refer to Rhett as Odion, that would just be too damn confusing. He was telling Avi the truth, so he may as well indulge her in the whole truth. She said more reassuring words and he cracked up into a smile, his face still beat red. “I’m sorry about that, truly,” he said, trying to sit still. “My real name is Odion, but you’re my friend so Odi will suffice, although I suspect you’ll continue calling me ginger,” he laughed lightly then, starting to relax around her.

Tucking the trinket back under his shirt, Odion shrugged. “He said it was girly and it suited me,” he said with a small grin. That was his Rhett. “I guess,” he said, followed by a small laugh. “You wouldn’t leave me alone until I told you anyways, but now that the mystery’s out, I can’t be interesting anymore.” He finished off his water then and the server came by to give him a refill. He nodded his thanks and kept on sipping. Odion was secretly glad that he wouldn’t be interesting anymore, but since he was sharing, he decided he wanted to share more. The news would get out sooner or later, things simply weren’t kept under wraps at Hammel.

“He’s moving out from the dorms at Hammel, gettin’ an apar’ment”, the redhead smiled broadly. If Avi could catch onto hints that would be best, then he wouldn’t need to say as much. Odion sighed contentedly. It was nice to talk, to a friend. To Avi. He never would’ve guessed she would be a good listener.

Avi could only grin as she saw him blushing more. He really liked this guy didn't he? Smiling she mved her head and nbbled on a cokie as she looked at her friend wondering what he was thinking. She didn't know why he had told her he had a fake name, and honestly it didn't matter, Ginger was Ginger, but she was curious about it. People always forgot the second part of the saying though. Sure curiosity kiled the cat, but Satsifaction brought it back. So really, it didn't matter if she was curious or not, it mattered that the satsifaction always brought it back. When he told her his name she smiled and nodded. “ Odion fits better Ginger.” At the mention of her still calling him Ginger she nodded quite serious. “Yea, you're still Ginger.”

Smiling as Ginger went on about the watch, she looked at him seriously. “ Damn right I would have.” Avi laughed looking across the table to her friend. “It does suit you though.” And it did, it was sort of classical and a bit mysterious to that exent. It had just the right amount of charm to complient Gingers nature and she thought that Rhett had done so fairly well in choosing something that fit Ginger. When he arose the fact of being interesting or not Avi shook her head. “Oh Ginger, you have so much to learn.” Smirking she nibbled on her cookie again. “You'll always be interesting, you my friend never fail to amuse me.” Avi meant what she said in the best way pssible. All of her friends were interesting. They wouldn't be her friends if she didn't find them interesting. It was one of the requrirements in her head. “You aren't getting rid of me that easily.”

Avi smirked as Odion continued to talk about him. Oh..oh...OH. Avi grinned at the redhead sitting across the table from her, knowing exactly what he meant. She was dense, but she wasn't that dense. Even she knew somethings. Grinning she finished her coffee. “Have fun with that. You guys having a housewarming party?” Avi grinned looking at Ginger. “Ill bring cookies~”

Really liked? Wow, he more than liked his old pickpocketing partner, he was madly in love with him. He wasn’t sure when it started, or why he let himself get attached to someone he might not have forever, or for the rest of his life anyways. When Odion thought of Rhett, he smiled like he was smiling now, but it hadn’t always been that way. It sort of just sprung up on him, like that kiss in the cafeteria – everything had changed after that, or maybe the truth finally just came out.

“I came here just for him...” He was pretty sure he had mentioned that, but now all he was thinking about was Rhett. Odion snapped back to reality and began fidgeting with his hands on the table. “As long as you’ll be my Avi,” he said lovingly. Odi had a thing for being possessive over people like he was about his trinkets. He really did care for the girl, she was the closest thing he had to a friend besides Rhett, who knew him inside and out. Surely there was enough room for her in his life, although he didn’t feel like he deserved such a thing. People wanting to be his friend was like wishing someone pneumonia.

Odion smiled and stroked the locket once more. “It was sort of a lucky break for him that he even found the thing,” the boy laughed a little at the memory. Avi wouldn’t have to know that about the two of them, it was illegal in every sense of the word.

“I’m not trying to get rid of you,” he said in all seriousness. Odion leaned over the table and snatched one of Avi’s cookies. He smiled then, “There must be something interesting I want to know about you, so enlighten me, an eye for an eye or something,” he said as he took a bit of the cookie, leaving only a bite left to be had.

The ginger grinned mischievously. “I am,” he said, “would you come then? Because I would like to invite you.” Odion hoped she would come, hers was the personality Rhett needed to lighten up and relax. “There will be chips and what not, please come.” He was practically begging now. He just wanted to throw a party for his boyfriend and it wouldn’t be a part if no one showed up. Well, it could be an equally enjoyable party, but not the one he had in mind.

Avi thought long and hard about her friend and what he was doing. It seemed that he was genuinely in love. That made her happy for him and she was almost grateful that he finally admitted it to her. She wouldn't have ever admitted it, but she had slowly been tiring of this game that the two were playing. She was getting worn out, but the text had made her spirit revive. Simple things like that led to Avi being rejuvenated and much better at being herself.

Avi grinned and took a sip of her coffee as he repeated himself. He had it so bad. He was loveeeeee struck. Just shaking her head smiling she looked over at him and nibbled on the cookie again. “ You know it.” There was no way she was going anywhere. Odion was a friend, and Avi was extremely loyal to her friends, no matter that she was or wasn't a pest most of the time. She knew she could get on peoples nerves, but also know that she could push and push and push until it was too much. Then and only then would she back off. Smiling she looked over and giggled, “You're silly.”

Avi nodded as he elaborated on the locket. “Well I'm glad he did. He seemed to have chosen something that suits you after all.” She really did think so and wasn't afraid to say it. That was Avi for you, extremely blunt, but with good intent. No filter though, she doesn't have one of those.

Avi grinned and was about to reply as he talked in seriousness. Then he ruined it by stealing a cookie. “Did you just...” Avi's mouth hung open for only the smallest bit before she shut it and munched on one of her own. “I can not believe you just stoled a cookie.” Avi grinned and poked his arm that was leaning on the table. “If you had asked I would have given it to you.” When he grinned at her with that smile she shook her head and stuck out her tongue at him. “The cookie is about the only interesting thing I have. And you stoled that.” She shook her head giggling. “ That's your something interesting.”

Avi perked up when she heard there was going to be a party. “Of course!” Did he really think she would pass up the opportunity to see where he was going to be (well in the future) co habituating? “I shall bring sweets~ since not everyone only likes chips” Avi grinned and looked over at her friend. “What type of sweets do you want?” Avi needed to start planning now. She needed ingredients and to be able to get the home ec room for a while if she was going to be baking.
