Fixing her ponytail for the tenth time since coming into the café, Kanda sighed. She had a while to kill before her martial arts class, and she was dressed appropriately for it having forgotten that class had been moved to a later time that day. With nothing else to do, she went into the café for a black coffee... before remembering that coffee played havoc with her migraines. Choosing a peppermint tea instead, she sat looking at her watch and wondering if she should take an hour-long jog around town before class. She wasn't so early that it was worth her while to go home first, but not close enough to the time to be able to wait there. And the boredom was killing her.

Well, maybe not literally. But it might as well have been.

Listening in to the conversations going on around her helped a little bit. She knew now that the woman at the corner table was having a baby girl, and that the guy to her right was really into Team Fortress 2. She wasn't particularly interested in them, though.

For a while she'd been watching a woman who looked stressed out of her mind nursing the same cup of coffee. She was playing a guessing game, trying to figure out without going over to speak to her what she was so stressed about, but she didn't think she was winning. Well, only one way to find out, wasn't there? And who didn't like a bit of company and friendly advice?

Scooping up her own cup, she walked over to where the other woman was seated and took her place across from her.

"You look like you have a lot on your mind," she said rather bluntly, getting comfortable already. "You know, it's better to talk to someone, and my ears are available for the next couple of hours." That meant 'hello' in Kanda-speak.

She sat there massaging her forehead with two fingers keeping her eyes intent on the papers before her. Who were these idiots? She obviously wasn't getting paid enough for this Bullmalarky. She knew that they had other things on their ind, but their jobs should come first. Really. Could they not understand a simple assignment? Sighing she reorganized the papers, fully ignoring the drifting conversations in the cafe that were preoccupying others.


Or at least she tried to.

Hoshi was bound and determined to make sure this was perfect. Honestly, she wasn't asking that much, just for them to do their jobs and let her do hers. It was an annoyance when she had to complete their half of the job as well. She required the best of her staff and it was determined that she would expect nothing less. Sipping on the tea that was in her hands she looked over the papers. She was almost able to get what she wanted, she just had to rearrange some things. Offering a faint grimace towards the work ahead of her she began.

Swiftly Hoshi began to readjust her papers, making sure they were all in order. Just as quickly her mind began to trace the layout of the paper in her head. They would keep all the sections the same just change the order that the articles were supposed to go in. Skiing before Basketball and Soccer before Hockey. Make it different for the people reading. Hopefully it would draw more interest and gather more attention.

Hoshi was alarmed when someone came and sat right in front of her, having the audacity to just sit there. Quickly she glanced around. It wasn't particularly crowded. Why choose her table?

Hoshi raised one eyebrow and watched as the other sat down. She looked fairly confident of herself and Hoshi could tell from the demeanor she exhibited. The way she walk, spoke and acted showed the confidence level that was She quietly set down her papers and surveyed the woman across from her. “I am figuring it out on my own thank you very much.” Hoshi was called an ice queen for a reason. Her manners, perfect, but equally unapproachable.

The teacher frowned a little at the haughty woman's chilly response. Well, how exceptionally rude, refusing her help like that. She'd known ancient chemistry professors less uptight that this - and old chem professors in her experience had tended to be rather... icy in their methods. She definitely needed to lighten up. Who better to help her out in that respect than Kanda?

"Whoa; I think you've spent way too much time outside," she said, getting very comfortable in her new chair. "You're starting to pick up a bit of a chill." Just touching the papers before her - a great improvement on just lifting and reading without invitation - she smiled again. "Now, all this looks pretty dull and in need of sorting. What is it anyway? You know, I am the best at organising files and folders. You should see the directories on my C drive. The most beautiful and organised laptop you'll ever see."

At least she was neat and unimposing in some aspects of her life.

Hoshi was perfectly fine sitting by herself as she organized the papers. She had never asked for someone to come sit by her. More importantly she never asked for this person to move her papers. Furthermore she never asked for this person to take up space. Which is what she was doing. Hoshi had kindly refused. Now what was her excuse for sitting there?

Did she just? Hoshi set her papers down and looked across at the pony tailed young woman sitting there. She crossed her arms ad looked over at her raising an eyebrow as she continued to speak. "I like the cold." Hoshi's voice was cold itself. If the girl couldn't read the mood it would be something Hoshi would have to fix. She had work to do after all.Then the lady continued to touch her papers and continued to insult her by saying she was unorganized.

"If you must know they are articles for the paper. I was in the middle of organizing the layout for this weeks paper."

Of course Kanda could hear the tone. Actually, she was absolutely certain she could feel it coming off her in waves. Absolutely freezing cold. It was a shame that the Australian's thermal manipulation ability didn't extend to thawing the stuffy old ice queens of the world. As it did not, she would have to make do with using her personality to try and warm the other woman to the idea of some clearly desperately needed assistance. She didn't suppose it would be too hard... but even if it was, the stubborn teacher liked a challenge. Usually. Looking at the bits of paper she was moving around, she squinted to read them upside-down.

"Not a huge fan of the cold myself," she said with a wry smile and a glance at her captive new friend. "But it can be tolerable if you know how to handle it." Which, of course, she did, and she raised an eyebrow as though challenging the woman to prove her wrong.

Upon hearing that she worked for a newspaper however, her shoulders slumped and she rolled her eyes, letting out a soft "ugh" in response. Kanda was not exactly the biggest fan of the media. She had what she liked to call a 'healthy distrust' of the printed word. Well, newspapers, anyway. Journals, textbooks and novels were a different story. But even then...

"So you work for a newspaper," she stated, not meeting the woman's eye. "Local, I take it. Well, can't be helped. What you do, that is. I can still help you organise all this rubbish." And with the way she had firmly anchored herself to the seat, it was almost certainly obvious that she was not going to take no for an answer.

To Hoshi this lady was an unwelcome disturbance. She was trying to get work done and right now it wasn't The lady was distracting and Hoshi was annoyed by it. She wished the lady would just go away. Especially if she couldn't stand up to the ice of Hoshi's attitude.

Hoshi nodded. She figured as much. The woman was too bright to be a cold person. " The cold is something a warm person wont understand."

A warm person would never understand the cold and the beauty in it. It just wasn't possible.

Her attitude was not appreciated. Hoshi liked her job and wasn't a fan of people who made fun of it. "Sorry its not to your expectations." Hoshi gave a small smirk and shook her head. "I run the local paper." Hopefully that would cue the bubble to stop with the unfair putting down of her employment. She would always find the truth, no matter the attitude of random people in coffee shops.

" Yes I work for a newspaper." One would think that the girl would get the point and leave by now. "I like working as editor there." No matter what she did love her job. "Rubbish? I just got it organized thank you. I was trying to figure out how to put the articles so it would get the citizens of pilot ridge to actually read the newspaper." When she got here it was all in ruins. Hoshi was set to fix that.
