Morning Surprise [o]

(This takes place after Awkward, two months later)

Kali's life after her tryst went back to normal. She was working everyday of the week with a few hours off here or there. She was glad her second story building had gone underway, thanks to Sam's donation, and didn't have much down time. She was fine with that, Kali was happy with her life.

That was, until she started barfing up anything and everything she ate between eight and twelve in the morning and three and seven in the evening. No matter what it was, she barfed. She thought it was just a bug she had, it being flu season and all, but then she never got a fever or other symptoms. On the fourth day of yacking up everything, she started to get worried.

This morning was much like the other mornings, she tried to get something into her stomach, then ended up running for the bathroom a few minutes later. After the nausea would pass, she would get hungry again, eat, then yack it back up. For her lunch break, she ran across the street for a pharmacy and made her purchase, then flitted back to her Kafe and into the bathroom.


Five minutes later, "--gotta be FUCKING KIDDING ME!"

Life was getting back to normal for Lia, but given her leftover anxiety she had taken up some new habits. The first of these was drinking more coffee. This generally meant more coffee that Lia did not make herself. Her reasoning behind this? Well, she liked coffee and it meant that she was around people. She had been somewhat withdrawn typically, as she’d rather read a magazine and have a smoke then chat all too much. However she had been trying to stay in view, if only because the social buffer might prevent whatever strangeness there was in her head from popping back up and causing disaster.

Today she had stopped in at Kali’s Kafe It was not a place that she had frequented in past but she had taken a liking to it of late. She had made it there maybe twice a week or so for just a few weeks now. It felt comfortable to her, and she was starting to recognize faces, though names were somewhat beyond her at the moment. Today she simply wanted coffee, and that was it.

She got her cup of coffee as usual and then settled down at a table with a copy of the paper that she had also picked up. Albeit it was afternoon, but Lia’s clock seemed to run late now that it was not on military time. About halfway through the cup and three quarters through the local section she managed to elbow over her drink. She jumped up, grabbing some napkins and putting those down to soak up the coffee. Then she dabbed at her sweater, but it did little good. Maybe if she ran it over some water in the bathroom then the stain wouldn’t set.

Just as Lia lifted a hand to knock on the door to the ladies room there came a yell from the other side. Lia drew back a little and stared at the door, hesitating for a moment. Then Lia knocked, not too loudly but loud enough to be noticed. “Um, are you ok in there?”

She stared at the little device. The little word wasn't changing though. Pregnant.

It said pregnant.

Kali wasn't even aware she had yelled, but when someone knocked on the door, she snapped back to her sense, and then got depressed all over again. She went to the door and opened it, holding out the device. "How accurate are these things?!" She demanded, but she knew it was true. She had forgotten to ever go back to the vag doctor and get her birth control prescription refilled, she didn't remember having sex with Mason so she didn't know if he used a condom or not--but she never found one in her room or in the trash bins in her bedroom or bathroom. She usually skipped periods because of the stress from work, so he usually wasn't worried if she was a week or so late. Now that she thought about it, she had missed for the entire month.....

"Shit," she exhaled as a breath and started to move towards the bar, a nice shot of bourbon would cheer her up..."Oh wait." She growled and redirected herself to behind the counter. She put the pregnancy test in a zip lock bag, putting that in the drawer under the register, and washed her hands in the sink then reached into the counter for a nice piece of cheesecake. She needed SOME sort of coping mechanism.

"I can not believe I am pregnant right now."
