Felt but not seen

Cae brushed what she assumed was blonde hair. She could picture her blonde hair and green eyes perfectly, like a still photo behind her lids. She had Zero in front of her. They were exploring the school grounds and she was testing out her power. She was aware of something on her far right, something thick and tall. It was a tree, she thought. She clicked her tongue and he pressed forward, helping her avoid objects though she them. It was strange being able to feel the presence of something, but she couldn’t see it. It was still blurred darkness. She felt hot tears roll down her cheeks and she hastily wiped them away. She felt something long and narrow on her left and she cautiously put her hand out. It met wood and she sat down on a comfortable bench. More tears rolled her face and she silent berated herself. She stroked Zero’s massive head and sat back. She felt herself widening out more to feel the presence of other people.

"Oh my God! A puppy!"
Bell screeched from the other side of the pond, though he hardly had to scream. It was just a bit unneccesary really. Then again, Bell missed his own dog and any contact with dog would send him into overdrive. He brought his camera up and snapped several times in succession before even noticing the girl sitting beside said puppy. She'd probably heard him. This was no ordinary puppy aparently.

This was a blind help puppy. Within seconds, Bell was infront of the girl peering down at her and her puppy. She was a pretty one. He leaned in closer and peered at her, narrowing his eyes, sure that if puppy started to growl, it would be snapping at air. Bell saw himself as unstopable and he was mostly right.
"You better not be wearing make up cause you are too damn pretty for that muck."
Yes, the age old make up battle that had been brought to his attention by Angela.

"You're new. I'm Bell and this is one hell of an awesome set of eyes you got yourself little Lady..."
Bell leaned back and pulled the camera up again. Snap. Snap. Snap for the dog then another three for the girl up close. Bell slid into the seat beside her close enough so their bodies were barely touching. He took her hand and plopped it on the side of his cheek watching her intently as he did so.

"Do you need to feel me up? You can feel me down too if you like..."
Bell grinned then realized she wouldn't be able to see that and pouted slightly. At least his voice was a bubble of emotions so she'd notice he was joking and teasing. It was then that he saw the cluster of tears on her lower eyelids.
"Awww buttercup. Why so blue?"

The presence Cae felt was full of energy. And then a scream. It made her flinch and before she knew it, a good sized human was in front of her gushing over Zero. The dog sat there, unflinching; of course he could actually see this burst of sudden energy. She turned her blind eyes towards him or at least what she thought was his general direction. He was taking photos of her dog. She would have told him to back off, but his blurted out another string of words. One that she had to actually pay attention to. She had almost smiled at him when she was called pretty. It surprised her, people didn’t normally go out of their way to talk to her. Though maybe this guy was only talking to her because Zero was in front of her. He seemed like he liked dogs. “My name is Caedynna, but please call me Cae. I’ve been here for a year. And thank you, I don’t normally get compliments.” It was all true. She knew her eyes were extraordinary, but she mostly kept her dark glasses on even though it brought more attention.

She heard more clicks of the camera and hoped they were only of Zero. She hated having her pictures taken, even before she was blind. It was a slight disadvantage of being blind. She couldn’t tell if they were taking a picture of her. Suddenly he was on the side of her and her hand was on his cheek. Her face burned red and she gave a small giggle at his joke. It had been a long time since she had heard herself giggle. She ran her hand over his nose and mouth, careful not to poke him in the eyes. She pulled her hand away and wiped said tears. “I’m just…lonely I guess,” she said. She wasn’t one for crying in front of people but she felt…safe. Cae gave him a brilliant smile and relaxed more than she had in a while. “Were you taking photos of Zero and me?”

Bell Gasped in surprise when she said she'd been there for a year.
"Does that make you twelve? Or thirteen? Not that Age really matters that much. I'm not calling you anything but Buttercup. You can be my buttercup."
Her hair was the color of butter. The winter sun caught it just right before another cloud passed over to obscure it. He frowned at said cloud.

"Yup, it's gonna snow again sometime during the evening. "
It was quite chilly outside anyway. The snow was thick on the ground with not chance of melting or letting up any time soon. He eyed the dog at her side and pouted slightly at it.
"You should get him little snow boots. He must be freezing his little pads off. "
Bell dropped in there. Yes, Don had snow boots and a hat and a whole little outfit for the snow because Bell loved to see his shake his paws to get the awkward things off.

It was hilariously funny. Dogs turned into ducks when they had snow shoes on.
"I was actually refering to your dog.. the set of eyes... you know seeing ey- oh never mind...But yeah kinda did compliment you I guess. "
Ha! More blushing girls. He was totally getting the hang of this girl blushing thing. It was so cool! He loved making them blush and she was giggling. That came naturally. People giggled around him.

He was funny. Pretty nifty talent to have, making people laugh. Bell smiled at her and closed his eyes when she let her fingers glide across his nose and his mouth. It felt good actually. Her wandering hands. He gave a soft sigh and relaxed into the touch but his eyes snapped open when she pulled her hands away to wipe her tears. Bell frowned a bit more watching her intently as she did so. Poor girl. Bell smirked and nodded then shook his head.

"I keep nodding them remembering only Zero can see me, wicked name by the way. I was indeed taking pictures of you. I'm a photographer. Shame I can't show you... Unless we find a telepath to put the picture in your head... hmmm do I know any telepaths?"
Bell fell silent as she pondered the thought.

Cae was actually getting to enjoy his rambling. She wasn’t entirely sure why. Normally people like this annoyed her, especially when they pet Zero when he was on a job. The nickname made her blush even more. “That’s okay; I’m kind of used to that. People forget I’m blind because I don’t act like it. I have this power, it’s called spatial awareness. So I can walk a little bit better than most people give me credit for.” She stared ahead of her and gave a small smile. “I haven’t gotten him snow boots because I can’t hear him when he walks on concrete. It’s to let me know that he’s actually at the end of the leash and not some random dog.”

She hoped it wouldn’t snow, the last thing she needed was ice on her way back to the dorm. She had a quizzical look on her face and tilted her head trying to hear things around her. There were very few chirping. She also tried to get a feel for the person beside her. He seemed really jumpy and active. Something about him made her smile. Her muscles felt under used. “Does it really look like it’s going to snow?” she asked shaking her head. Blonde hair stuck to her wet cheeks and somehow got inside her mouth.

Cae opened her mouth when she suddenly remembered a question about her age. She whipped her head towards him, her eyes blazing with playful anger. “I am not thirteen. I am seventeen thank you,” she teased giving him a huge grin.

Bell smirked at her words when she mentioned that she needed to hear Zero walking so she didn't get another dog instead of Zero. Bell mused on the idea and bit into his bottom lip.
"That would be such a funny prank..."
Bell said with a bit of laughter in his voice before realizing what he'd said and quickly changing his mind on it.

"I mean... um... not that I'd ever do that cause it's mean and cruel and not funny at all...."
Bell nodded quickly correcting himself. With Blind people, it would be mean yes. Though... with people who could see.
"So imagine if this person ties up this dog outside the store and finds pip on the other end of the line instead? That would totally kill. Ha! Man I need to do that! Thanks for the idea!"
It was a shame she couldn't be part of her brilliant idea.

She wouldn't be able to see anything if he took her along anyway. Bell looked up at the sky when she asked if it would snow and his bright blue eyes rolled slowly across the heavens.
"Yup! Why? You thinking to challenge me with a snow ball fight? I bet ya I'd win... Unless I went easy on you... for a price of course..."
Bell reached out instinctively and pulled the hair from her face tucking it behind her ear then noticed her playful mock anger.

"Buttercup! You're older then I am! Ha, no wonder you're more mature. So what does the eyes like to eat then? Do you give him milkbones? Pip loves those stuff. I have to keep it on the top shelf of my wardrobe or I'll come home and find pieces of plastic in my bed... Totally his way of pranking me. I do deserve it."
Bell grinned at Zero, missing his own Pip a whole lot more.

Caedy flinched when he called her Buttercup, that nickname was getting old really fast, and when he brushed some hair from her face. She wasn’t used to someone with this much energy around her. He was talking about some kind of prank, obviously one she couldn’t be a part of. She didn’t want to be part of anything this guy did. He clearly forgot she was even blind when he challenged her to a snow ball fight. Snow ball fight! And yet, she didn’t want to ruin the only fun she had in ages. She felt snow began to fall on her head. It was tiny little flakes and she knew it would stick because it was coming down fast and the temperature was dropping with it.

“No, I don’t normally give him any kind of treats except for the food off my plate,” she said, getting up slowly and using the spatial awareness not to run into anything. The snow was already thick on the ground. She ran her boots through it, a pure smile on her face. You didn’t have to see snow to know what it looked like.

It was white and it made everything silent. Or at least look silent. Zero was finally letting go, and she could tell, playing in the snow. Her gloved hands went down to pick it up and she licked some out of the glove. It was so tasty! She had always been one of those people who liked to eat snow. She didn’t do it often, only when it first fell. She rolled the rest of it up and turned her body so she was facing Bell and his pent up energy. She almost knew where he was. She threw the snowball hoping it would hit its mark.

The snow began to fall which was just about as romantic as a twillight scene with the dumbass stubborn Bella and her stupid immature wolf boy, Jacob. Gah!
"Eat your heart out, Stephenie Meyer."
Bell hissed as he tilted his head back and closed his eyes listening to her talk about giving her dog food from her plate. The snow flakes dropped on his face and melted on his cheek like little kisses from the sky.

It was awesome just to sit there with his new ... sorta friend that he was sensing a little annoyance from. He was already getting on her nerves then? Wow. That didn't take too long. Bell opened his eyes and tilted his head back to where he thought the girl was still sitting. He'd then started seaching and saw her just in time to watch her release the snowball. Superspeed Bell could have easily avoided it but allowed it to hit him square on the shoulder.

"Hey! That's not fair! You didn't tell me the fight was on! Fine fine. One for Buttercup and zero for the Bellster. "
Bell leaned back not wanting to move too much to make it a fair game. His goal was to show her that she could have fun even if she was blind. It didn't matter what she was, she was a teenage girl and she was far too stuck up for his liking, set on the fact that she was blind it seemed to him.

Yet, she was making an effort and he would too. He gathered his own ball of snow behind in and tossed it toward her.
"Dodge that then!"
He called to her from his spot on the bench. Staying in one place only made it more challenging for him to avoid getting snowed. He bent forward on the bench and started collecting snow to make snow balls flicking his eyes up every so often so he could at least try and duck away from a coming snowball.
