FLU EVENT: New Wild Everywhere (Kiara)

Tomorrow would be the last day of Spring Break. Ginny was sorry the week had gone by so quickly; she'd hardly had time to spend with her Hammel friends. Jean and Haley had been busy, though she couldn't fault them. They did have training and school work of their own, after all.

L.C. had long since moved out of Pilot Ridge, and Callie had followed her boyfriend last Ginny had heard. Estelle was busy with her boyfriend, and with her cousin, Andromeda was still upset that her boyfriend had cheated on her with her ex-boyfriend, and Mia...well, Ginny wasn't supposed to have anything to do with her, as per her father's orders.

Not that she had been exactly obedient there, but once again, she had been busy with her boyfriend.

She really needed to start befriending asexuals.

In fact, thinking about all that drama made her head hurt. That had to be why she felt ill; she couldn't possibly be getting sick at the end of spring break, that wasn't allowed.

And so instead of going home and resting, or even excusing herself to go to the school nurse, she flopped down beside the pond, watching the koi idle along with a sigh, breath shorter than it should have been given she had only walked from the front of the building to the ponds.

"I'll bet fish don't have boy problems," She muttered, glaring at the red and gold scales flashing beneath the water. "But I suppose fish don't really have friends to abandon for boyfriends, either."

Another body perched itself beside her and she turned slightly, recognition lighting up her face. "Heyyyy, Ki...Kara, is it?"

As much as she wanted to remember the name's of every student, she simply couldn't. If she didn't spend time with someone on a regular basis they were only a face, and maybe half a name.

"What d'you think, fish call one another up, say hey, I know this spot, it has the best algae? Or whatever fish eat."

Problems with friends picking love over a friendship? That hardly existed in Kiara’s world. Whenever she found herself alone because others were hanging out with their boy- or girlfriend, it didn’t cause any annoyance. The main feelings that took over were pity for herself and the fear of ending up as a cat woman in a rocking chair. Towards her friends she usually felt happiness, glad their lives were going down the right path and that they had found someone to share valuable time with, even if that came on the costs of her social life. Of course the smallest sting of jealousy occurred every now and then, but who didn’t long for that special someone?

Kiara often enough found herself roaming about without any company. Her personality contributed to this. She wasn’t a rude person though; it was quite the opposite. She just… was somewhat shy and not as much as a party-animal as some might expect from her. The girl didn’t want to change this for anyone though.

Either way, right now, the blonde was also venturing all alone. Hands tucked in the pocket of a hoodie, she made her way to the pond. She could be found at the lake more often, but right now she judged it too far of a walk. Instead Kiara plopped down and focused on the koi making the pond look more alive. Close to her another girl was seated. She had taken notice but had not taken time to check on who it was, if only because she had decided to keep to herself like usual.

That was when Ginny spoke though, clearly attempting to initiate a conversation since she even bothered to try get her name right. The latter failed. Nevertheless, Kiara appreciated the attempt and allowed a friendly smile to grace her lips.

“It’s more like a mix of those two. Ki is a nickname.” Of course that might not help Ginny any further, hence the reason Kiara shuffled slightly closer in order to be able to offer her hand to the other blonde. ”Kiara.” She didn’t like to correct others, afraid it would make them feel attacked, but yeah, it was only fair for Ginny to be able to use the name her parents had given her.

When it came to the other question, it was a rather odd one. Kiara opted to reply either way though, not wanting to come across as rude. ”Maybe if it are transfiguration students”, she replied smartly. It was her intention for it to be a small joke though, not to come across as a know-it-all. She could also have claimed that fish could not hold a phone or that the pond was small enough for them to communicate without any aid, but she kept those remarks to herself for it would be useless to make such comments out loud. Ki always failed at making them sound hilarious, let alone just funny.

”But no… They probably lead anything but a troublesome life. Make friends with whoever swims them by, have their families around, being observed for their graceful movements and beauty...” Kiara trailed off as a soft smirk broke free and her gaze settled on Ginny. ”Sounds like a life for me... except for the last part. I’m rather clumsy and don’t like to be watched.” She decided without it being any meaningful information.

”You’re Ginny, right?” Ki had a pretty good memory, even when the relationship didn’t go any further than acquaintances.

Ginny appreciated the correction, repeating the name aloud in the hopes that would cement it into her memory. "Kiara. Kiaaaara."

While Kiara may have doubted the humor of her own joke, Ginny cracked a grin at her. "Good point. Wait...they would have to be animagi, right, not regular transfiguration students?"

That would be a question for Nat; she enjoyed Harry Potter well enough, but she was by no means the expert her cousin was.

However, the other girl had continued reflecting upon the lives of fish, and Ginny had to nod her agreement. That sounded about right, at least for fish in a pond with no predators.

She agreed that there were advantages to the life of a koi, though she was happy enough being a girl. Or...

"Yup. that's me." This was followed by sniffling attempts to breathe better; maybe she was just having allergies. "I kind of think the being watched and admired part would be okay, though, but I don't know about the whole worrying about predators thing. If a bird decided to swoop down and nab me I wouldn't be able to do anything about it, and that would suck majorly."

Right. Animagi. Kiara assumed that sounded correct, so she gave a nod in response. When it came to getting Ginny’s name correct, a mix of relief and pride took over. At least that saved her from feeling horrible during the continuation of their chat. Anyway, while listening to the other girl’s opinion on the life of a fish, the blonde tugged her legs close to her chest and wrapped arms around them while blue eyes focused on the creatures fluently swimming through the clear water.

That sounded so… pessimistic. True nevertheless, but Ki was more of an optimist and hadn’t even considered the dangers. That probably made her naïve, too. “We… would be eaten.” Heck, even if it would have been her power to transform into a fish, it was doubtful she could save her ass then. Her thoughts were torn away from that mental image as she heard Ginny sniffle.

With a small frown, Kiara reached for the pack of paper tissues in the pocket of her hoodie. She offered it to the other girl, somewhat reluctant. “It’s not contagious, right?” Whatever it was. The blonde rather didn’t catch anything right now, especially since she would be leaving to the ocean with her best friend in a couple of days.

Kiara seemed somewhat disturbed by the idea of being eaten; Ginny supposed it wasn't a comforting thought if one really focused too much on the implications.

"So it's a good thing we're not fish."

She accepted the tissues gratefully, trying not to roll her eyes at the other girl's obvious reluctance. "God. If allergies are contagious we'd have some problems." She muttered, though this was as much to reassure herself as anything.

"....but thanks." She added belatedly, remembering her manners too late.

She was handing the tissues back when her stomach began to flip flop violently, and she stood quickly, dropping the tissues to the ground and taking a few shaky steps toward the building, "Ugh. I don't feel that g----uuugh."

She didn't make it more than three steps before vomiting over the ground, holding her stomach with both hands.

So much for not being contagious.
