It was a slight drizzle outside, the air heavy with precipitation, stagnant and withholding, as if it got any heavier, the whole world would turn into some aquatic mess. It also felt like it was just a hairpin away from crushing down on him emotionally. JJ never broke down in front of anyone, at least, not anyone here at Hammel. And from what he knew, he wasn't going to get the opportunity to do so ever again. People changed, plans changed, and all too soon it seemed.
Word through phone call and correspondence through professors and guidance counselors here at Hammel had left Jin with no choice but to comply. He wan't ever going to admit that he liked the school here, and if he was forced to say anything, he'd have to keep his biligerant pride and say it was nearly tolerable, much like Mr. Darcy called Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice, but also like Darcy, there were other feelings he wasn't showing for the school (or Elizabeth, if we were to personify the school) that wouldn't come out if he could help it. Unfortunately for Mr. Darcy, he was far too subject to the beauty and wit of Ms. Bennet to keep his pride strong, and bent with the pressure. Perhaps it wold be best for Hammelites to know how he really felt, but to what matter would it be after all? He was sitting here in his lonesome, his only company in the flies and midges that hovered over the pond's tall grass nearby. Mid-afternoon was soon approaching, and by now, students would be in their classes, all hard at work or sleeping in the back seats of the class. No one would know he was gone, except for maybe a week or so later.
A pity, wasn't it, that he had so much potential at Hammel, and had wasted it all because he was bitter and immature. He would be gone within an hour, with no one to remember him except for Zac and their rather uncomfortable encounter, something he'd be ready to forget. (No offense Zac!) In light of things, he had learned that he was straight, and did quite fall for a girl, a girl that probably wouldn't ever like him back because of how much of a twat he could be. But he wished he could tell her. Too late, though, too late.
Or was it? If there was one thing he could do before his father's private driver came to pick him up and swoop him off back to home, to get ready to leave for Europe, it was a letter to the girl he'd learned to like. The Beauty and the Beast sort of thing, where she was most certainly the beast. He got out a fountain pen and a piece of lined paper from his shoulder bag, one of the many leather bags accompanying him on his long trip home, tapped the a few times on the paper pad, and began writing, but it ended up more of a scribbly cursive by the time he finished it. It read:
Stella,
I guess its pretty late for me to tell you this, and you might end up throwing it away because it came from a jerk like me. I know I am one, but I also know that you were very kind to me. You didn't really judge me, and instead were sweet, one of the only few. I'll be leaving today, actually in just a few minutes, but I wanted to know that you were well liked by me. I'm not interested in taking pride anymore and hiding my feelings for you, although I doubt they'll do any good now, because by the time you get this, I'll be out of state most likely. But yes, I admit it, you were the only one I gave a second or third or fourth thought about, and you're an amazingly underrated girl. I believe that although you don't really speak up a lot, you are strong in your own ways, and for that, you'll be just fine. I hope you live happy, full, and well.
Sincerely,
Jin
After reading it over thoroughly two times, he folded it in thirds, and on the upper flap, wrote Stella's name on it in cursive, threw the pen and pad back in his bag, and then, after making sure no one was around to take or rifle through his stuff, ran back into the building, to the Main Office. He handed the letter to the secretary, asking her politely to make sure that letter got to Stella. He took in the office one more time, hesitantly, and then marched on out, back towards his stuff. Within a few minutes, his father was calling, asking if JJ was ready. He confirmed such, and about five minutes later, as if on his father's command, the private driver pulled up and went to fetch Jin's things. He let him, whilst taking in one last look of the large and ancient school, before sighing, turning his back on it, and sitting himself in the large, long vehicle, telling himself not to look back.
He pulled out his Blackberry, texted his father that they were leaving Hammel right now, and then as the car pulled out of the roundabout asphalt lane, he couldn't help but take one more look of the school, until it faded out behind the trees and beyond human eyesight. He was on his way to new adventures, that was for sure. A new school, a new start, right? The school was well aware of his situation, and JJ was made sure that he would not be chased after as long as he made confirmation of his registration at Kocher, a fellow meta-human institute located in the high hills of near-Switzerland. It was quite the change, but that's how business worked right? Well, according to his father, it was that change that he was looking for in his company, and as CEO, he was asked to relocate to the banking central of the world, and so his family would have to go with him. It was arranged by parents to deans already, from both Hammel and Kocher, and JJ would continue his training there. Perhaps he'd even learn some French or German while he was at it. Best of all, perhaps the most sweet of the bittersweet experience was that he had the option of starting again. No one would know him, no one would know his past, and what's more, he would learn to not let his past define who he was around people. That's right, he was going to give people a chance, and try to love the life he had, and be grateful for it, and the family he was placed in. It was about time he grew up a bit. He had a little sister to be a role model for, after all. This was going to all be alright in the end.
It was an end to the Hammel life, a place where he had started his journey, and although its time had come to a close, there was an ocean of possibilities left for him, and now, he was going to make the use of it all and make a difference in the best way he could. A changed young man, Hammel had helped him in more ways than one, and now he was willing to step down from his pedestal and admit to it. A beginning to a brand new life.
