Dani was actually not up to no good today--right now, she was just trying to get a shiny object from the high branches of a tree in the courtyard. She had seen it reflect the sun, passing by, and realizing that there were very few people around today for some reason, decided, why the hell not, and started climbing up the tree, not really caring about the shirt picked out by her mother getting dirty, just wanting to know what could be so shiny up in a tree in the middle of the courtyard.

But as it turned out, Dani didn't get to see what it was. The wind picked up and blew her hair into her face--one more reason to remember to find those scissors and cut it all off again--and when she went to place her foot in a foothold at the same time she was transferring her hand to another branch, she missed everything completely and was clinging to one branch for dear life by her hands, yelling a very high-pitched and loud "HOSHIT." She was higher up than she thought she was, the tree being a deceiving thing with few branches actually close enough together for one to save themselves from acquiring at least a broken limb. Her hands were slipping, the bark scratching deeply into the skin of her palms, and Dani kicked her legs out to no avail--it just made her hands slip more. Her heart pounding, more panicked than she'd like to admit, she decided, broken leg>broken neck, and let herself drop, surprising even herself when a scream made its way out of her lungs. And she realized that she was tilted back, more of her upper body falling back than her lower body, so if she were to land, it would not be in a standing position, but she would likely break something in her spine and she would be dead. She had enough time to realize this, and think that they'd better not let Jared pick a tombstone, because he would make it say something stupid that he thought was witty like CURIOSITY AND KARMA KILLED THAT CAT. HAHAHA.

"So scared of breaking it that you won't let it bend~! And nananananananaaa," Robbie was jiving along to the tune on his MP3 player, moving his body and arms in a stuccato manner that would make a robot so shameful it ever existed as a dance move.

Passing a few girls who waved his way, Robbie nodded and flashed them his "How you doin?" grin and nod before walking off.

He didn't really have plans for the day. The sun was out, the breeze was soft and he was bored. So hanging out in the courtyard? Obvious boredom killer! He found a good spot under a tree he didn't know had an occupant until he heard a shrill shriek even through his earphones.

Quickly pulling them out and turning around, he saw a flash of brown white and blue fall from above and he quickly scrambled up to his feet and dove to grab at what was falling. But the way he positioned himself made it too easy for both him and the thing fallingto drop down to the ground very disastrously.

In a split second, Robbie got a face full of grass and the wind knocked the heck out of him by the falling object. Groaning, Robbie tried to work his limbs to make sure nothing was broken. "You okay back there?" He asked, realising that what had fallen on him was actually a person.

So the way Dani landed, she was not dead, knowing this because once you died, the whole achy-muscle thing supposedly stopped. At least, according to... Well, she had heard it somewhere. Probably one of her comics. Anyway, this wasn't the time for her to be thinking of that. At first, she had just been thrilled to be alive, but then she realized that she could be alive and broken, so she gingerly tested her limbs, a moan escaping her lips when she moved her ankle. It was not broken, she knew how painful breaks were, and it wasn't bad enough to be strained, so she most likely had a deep-muscle bruise forming, or had just twisted it a little.

After taking inventory of herself and affirming that she was unharmed except for scraped hands and her maybe-twisted-more-likely-bruised ankle, Dani decided to answer the person that, she realized, she was laying on. That explains the whole not-being-dead thing--he must have caught her. The voice sounded familiar, so much like she had heard it very, very often before, but she couldn't place it in her muddled state of relief-confusion-ache. She scooted herself off of the person and lay in the grass for just a moment, breathing so that she could respond without sounding weak.

She took as deep a breath as she dared take, and spoke in a hoarse voice. "Yeah. Fine. Thanks." Then she opened her eyes, which had closed again when she moved herself off of the person, and looked at him. And then she began laughing breathlessly.

Of course it would be Robbie.

She actually showed a half-ounce of sympathy when she realized he could be aching worse than her, and asked quietly, "So, are you okay? You didn't break anything, right?"

The voice that came from behind him made him groan even more. "Damn it, Waylan." He turned around and laid flat on his back, coughing a little as he tried to gain back his composure. "The fuck have you been eating? You cracked my damn ribs!" He gingerly prodded his stomach, moaning at the slight pain of banging it hard against the ground.

He propped himself up on his elbows and looked at Dani with a raised eyebrow. "What were you doing up there anyway?" He asked and tried to sit up, ignoring the piercing pain to his torso. He slid over to the tree and leaned against it, recuperating.

Narrowing his eyes at the dark haired [if she were anyone else, could have been] babe, Robbie poked her forearm with one finger. "You saw something shiny didn't you? You and shiny things. I swear you're like a fucking kitten." Robbie chuckled, wiping his face with one hand. "What have you got that is broken? Her hands? Feet?"

Dani heaved herself painfully up onto her elbows, muttering "The souls of innocents, Sunshine. They weigh two fracking tons." in response to his question. She made herself sit all the way up, and pulled the boy's shirt up despite any protests he might have, smacking his hands away and saying "Let me see it!" probing at his sore ribs, to see for herself what the extent of his damage was. "Damn. What I wouldn't give to be a cell regenerator or someshit." It appeared that he was mostly exaggerating, but Dani wasn't a doctor. It wasn't like she knew what cracked ribs felt like on another person, but it would have been nice to be able to fix what she had done to him. Whatever the extent of that was.

When he asked what she had been doing up there, and began accusing her of chasing shiny things, Dani glared at him, though it was halfhearted. She just decided not to answer, because she didn't have the energy to lie her way out of that one. And anyway, as infuriating as it may be, he was right. She instead gestured to her right ankle. "I think it's twisted, though I'm hoping it's just a bruise. God, the weeks of bed-rest and crutches? It's exhausting."

"And anyway, what about you? Anything else messed up with you, Sunshine?" She hoped nothing else. It'd be just plain wrong for him to have to be all broken up because of her. He was just always so damn chipper, she'd hate to see him sulking in a hospital bed because of her.

Robbie raised an eyebrow but couldn't help the laughter from bubbling out. Dani was hilarious, he got along well with her despite their constant bickering simply because she knew how to make him laugh like nobody's business.

When she insisted on checking him, the blond teen put up a half-hearted fuss but in the end let her prod him. "Ow! Waylan, you douche! That hurts, silly." He winced at every probing finger. "I don't know how Verax does this on a daily basis." Robbie shook his head and heaved a sigh.

He winced when Dani mentioned her twisted ankle. "Shoot, well...serves you right for climbing that tree." He reprimanded, though without much malice or the least bit of vitriol. "And I'm fine. Stop mother henning me, Waylan." He gave the girl a little grin and shoved her away from him playfully. "Well, other than my hair, I'm going to be fine." He tried to get up and in a second, he was okay. He even managed to ignore the wooziness in his head.

"Hey, you okay to stand up?" He asked, looking down at her.

Dani looked away, glaring across the courtyard. Weird how nobody else even blinked an eye at a girl falling out of a tree and landing on... Well, landing on a Robbie. There was no other way to put it.

When he shoved her away, she let him, not fighting back like she would have otherwise. She figured she could pay him back for basically saving her from a dirty grassy death by not smacking his face for pushing her, even playfully. She wasn't in the mood for any of this, but at least it was this roommate that had saved her, and not the one that completely hated her entire being. There was some sort of comfort in the fact that it was Robbie--he could take a joke, practical and otherwise. That was a hard quality to find in... Anyone.

She nodded at him, a dismissive "yeah" already on its way out, and tried to stand, ending up sitting back on the ground because her ankle let out a very argumentative throb, as if to say, "Hell no, I am not being stood on right now!" So that left Dani with very few choices. She tried moving onto her hands and knees, pushing herself up on her good leg so that she could be upright, dizzy and wobbly but relatively whole. She hopped back, once, and felt behind her for the tree she had fallen out of. Leaning against it, she put her hand to her forehead to try and stabilize the world. It was working... Kind of.

She looked in the direction she had last seen Robbie in and said shortly, "I'm fine, Sunshine. I can... Hobble or hop or something back to the room. I have ace wrap there from the last time this happened, so I don't need to go to the infirmary." She said the last part intending to have venom in her voice, but she was just tired, so it came out more like a miffed wet kitten's mrowl.

Dani was uncharacteristically quiet and Robbie wondered why. Falling from a tree wasn't that bad a deal. Especially when you had a soft landing. Briefly, he wondered if Dani was one of those girls who actually cared how people saw her. He shook his head at the mere thought. Dani was so not one of those girls. If she was, she wouldn't be able to pull as many pranks as she had.

Robbie instinctually leapt forward to catch Dani when she fell but she slipped through his fingers. Her curt answer to his question made him roll his eyes. "Fine. Whatever. You want that ankle to swell the size of a balloon, be my guest." He pushed himself off the tree and took her hand. "Come on, I'll bring you back to the room." He said gruffly, swinging her arm around his shoulder and helping her walk. "Keep your bad ankle up." Robbie insisted.

"You're lucky I was here," he said, forgetting his MP3 player completely. Whoever got it was one lucky dude.

Dani's face was flushed--she actually blushed, but she blamed it on a belated head-rush of standing after that entire experience--when Robbie put her arm around his shoulders. She hated that someone had to help her. It made her feel ten times weaker than she knew she was. And as much as she may deny it, she's a teenage girl. She cares to some extent what people think of her, which is half the reason she pulls all of those pranks anymore: to make her seem untouchable, an evil force of nature to be reckoned with--or, something to that effect. One can never be sure of even their own motivations.

She did as he said, keeping her ankle held up in the air and hopping along with most of her weight supported by the blonde boy, her balance kept by tightening her grip on his shoulder every time she felt herself wobbling. She had a sarcastic remark planned, but it died on her tongue. She was actually feeling something here. She searched her memory for similar feelings from the past and realized what it was: grateful. She mentally sighed, watching the ground and pretending to concentrate on where she was going, her voice nonchalant when she spoke again. "Yeah, I guess I am. Thanks a mil for saving my life and all, Sunshine." And then she flicked his ear with her free hand. "But if you think I'm going to be all 'oh, you saved my life, I owe it to you my white knight', you've got another thing coming." Her dark eyes were narrowed, but her grin returned within moments of saying what she wanted said. And it was true, as far as she knew at least.

Choosing not to comment on the blush Robbie accidentally noticed colour Dani's cheeks, the weather manipulator adjusted himself so the girl could lean on him more comfortably.

Her next words made him smile and consequently laugh before snorting. "Please. You wouldn't want to owe me anything if you can help it. This one is free of charge. And if you dare tell anyone about me helping you, I will end you. So swiftly." He narrowed his eyes sideways at her before chuckling.

The rest of the way to their dorm room was filled with back and forth insult-slinging and bickering. And finally, they arrived at their dorm in one piece. "Is it locked?" Robbie asked before jiggling the doorknob. Turned out that it wasn't so he pushed in, bringing Dani with him.

"You go to the couch, kay? Ice pack should be in the freezer right?" He asked, already approaching the kitchen.

Dani actually enjoyed this bantery-thing with Robbie, considering her roommate the closest thing to a friend she had. He never took her jokes too seriously, instead laughing and seeing them for what they were: jokes. He also occasionally fought back in a way that Dani had to admit was impressive, nearly on-par with her own pranks, some of his jokes even funnier than anything she could come up with in just a few situations, although a person would be extremely hard-pressed to get her to admit any of that.

In response to the line of questioning involving ice packs, Dani shrugged. "Honestly, Sunshine, I don't remember if we even have one." She had managed to hop, one-footed, her injured ankle still in the air, to the couch, where she flopped onto her back, taking up the entirety of the couch and putting her foot gingerly up on the armrest, letting the rest of her body fall back onto the couch, her hair making an inky halo to frame her glaring face. Yes, glaring, but not at anything in particular, just staring angrily at the ceiling. She had to climb that tree, didn't she.

"You know what sucks? I didn't even find out what the shiny thing was." And then she realized that she said that out loud, and face-palmed.

Robbie rolled his eyes at Dani's response before rummaging through their freezer and finally finding something sorta icepack-y and threw it to the couch. It sailed through the air and hit the back of the furniture, landing with a thud on the wooden floor.

"Whoops." Robbie dashed across the room and slid on the floor to grab the cold icepack, bumping his head against the back of the couch, shaking Dani on it. "Crud." He rubbed the tender spot on his head before sliding up and handing the pack to Dani. "You're supposed to lift up your ankle." He walked around and grabbed as many of the couch pillows as possible and stacked them up by Dani's leg.

He then propped her leg up and gestured for the pack before pressing it against Dani's ankle. "There ya go."

"Pffttt, I knew it was something shiny!" Robbie rolled his eyes before walking to where Dani's head was, pushed her up and plopped down to watch some cartoons. "You and your attention spans...ooh Spongebob!"

Dani had no clue what was going on, only that there were several bumps, then a couch-shaking bang. She had the conscience to wonder if he was okay for half a second, then went back to glaring at the ceiling.

Until he went and started worrying like that. She took the ice pack and set it on her ankle, muttering something along the lines of who's-mother-henning-who-now. When he pushed her up and expected her to stay sitting up, she let herself fall back down, her shoulders up ending up in his lap. She glared up at him. "Oh, I'm not giving this spot up that easy, Sunshine. Sit on the floor or something." She paused. "And the shiny thing had nothing to do with my attention span."

Robbie's own attention span was minute and he just heard chatter by his side while the yellow sponge on TV captured his full attention. Of course, that also did not last long when his stomach growled.

"Goddamn I'm hungry. Get off me, Waylan." Robbie pushed the girl back up again and let her down, a little gentler than he usually would have and rushed to the kitchen to grab two bags of Cheetos and a bottle of soda. When he got back to the couch, Dani was already sprawled back across the piece of furniture. "Psht." He made a face at her before sitting on the floor, directly against the couch.

"You feeling okay up there? Swollen ankle and things?"

Dani was hungry, too, but she wasn't going to say anything. She would probably just steal some of whatever he got when he wasn't looking, but she wasn't going to say anything.

She made her best cross-eyed, tongue-out face back at him, then reached down and stole the bottle of soda from him, taking a swig and handing it back to him. And then she ruffled his hair, making sure she thoroughly messed it up, smirking. "Feeling great, Sunshine. Just dandy. The ankle's only half swollen, the headache's finally getting the message that I don't want it here, and I've just discovered that that soda is crap." Never doubt the complaining powers of an injured Dani. At least she wasn't trying to bite anyone's head off, like she normally might.

Like she probably will if the swelling gets any worse.
