Best Thing He'll Never Have (Robbie)

So it was official. Adrianna was single and heartbroken for the second time within a few months. First Luke, then Talen. And again Lucah had been right. It had to be her. What else could it be? Not them. Luke went to see his family in Greece, Tal just wasn't happy with her. He felt the need to cheat. In Adri's mind, all that meant was, she had been the problem.

Maybe it was the dwelling on her mother's sickness. Maybe it was her being too outgoing. She didn't know, but somehow it had been her fault.

Anyone else might have gotten mad at the two boys for stringing it along. Luke knew he'd be going home, why even start dating her? Talen had said he wanted to be her boyfriend then turned around and cheated on her, what was the point? And yet, Adri wasn't mad at either one of them. She didn't blame Luke because she would have done the same. She wasn't mad at Talen because he was clearly unhappy with her. Not to mention, she liked him too much to be mad. She was just too nice.

Of course Adrianna had tried keeping the break-up on the DL, but she knew it wouldn't stay like that. Which was why she had locked herself in her room and shut out the rest of the world. She hadn't talked to anyone for a few days, until she made the one phone call to the only person she could think of to call. Robbie.

He was just down the hall from her and she was starting to become friends with him. It wasn't like they were close or anything, but he was nicer about things than Lucah was. He was actually somewhat comforting when Luc was strictly honest, no sugar-coating necessary. So she had called Robbie to talk to him.

Let's hope he can handle some tears.

Robbie was actually doing homework. He didn't like it but it was due tomorrow and his Math teacher would kill him if he submitted an empty paper. So there he was, doing. his. homework.

God only knew how hilariously happy when he got a call. It was Adrianna and she had asked him to come over to her dorm. He could do that. If only to get away from his homework.

He didn't know her relationship status had terminated so as he skipped over to her dorm, he was just ecstatically happy to get away from his dreaded homework.

Knocking on the door to the room, Robbie hummed a few bars of that new song he heard on the radio by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera.

Adrianna sighed and slowly got up to answer the door. She was scared to be honest. She didn't know Robbie all that well and she didn't know how he'd take what she was about to tell him. It wasn't like they talked about feelings or anything last time they had hung out. Actually it was mostly funny things, things that made her think less about the drama in her life. That was one relief he had given her and that's all she wanted now. Relief from the drama.

She wiped the few tears that were on her cheeks and took a deep breath before opening the door with a very fake and forced smile on her face. "Hi Robbie," She said in a clear, and yet somehow broken tone. She wished it hadn't come out like that, but she couldn't help it. She was hurting.

Adrianna moved to the side in order to let him come in and folded her arms across her chest, hugging herself to keep the pain inside. She didn't want it to come tumbling out like she knew would happen if she didn't watch herself. She was an open book...and she hated that part.

"H-how are you?" Her voice cracked and she turned away to hide the pain in her eyes. This wasn't what she wanted to be like. He didn't deserve to be sucked into her hole of depression.

Robbie was dense, everybody knew that, but the first glance at Adrianna, the weather manipulator knew he was dealing with a sad person. A very, very sad person. "Um...hey, Aid." He drawled hesitantly.

He wasn't equipped to deal with his own emotions, how was he supposed to deal with others? Especially girls. They're a bundle of crazy and nuts and their emotions were just as insane.

"Dude, I'm good. Hey...what's up?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck out of habit. He was seriously out of his element.

Adrianna knew he was catching on to her mood. She felt horrible for dragging him into it now. She always had to ruin it for someone else! It was like she wanted to make everyone else miserable because she was. At least that's how she saw it.

She wasn't usually very emotional. Not in front of people at the very least. She kept her emotions in check and she kept things to herself when she was hurting. She had been told by several people to open up. That's just what she was trying to do. Open up, to a boy she thought she'd be able to trust. Adrianna didn't know how it would go, but it was worth a shot.

"Um...okay I'm really sorry for putting this on you, but I really needed someone to talk to. You did so good at keeping my mind off of the serious stuff when we hung out last time and well I need bit of a release from all this stress I have. Think you can help?" She asked hopefully. Adrianna really did enjoy his company. He was funny and really laid back. That's what she needed. Desperately.

Contradictory to his normal behaviour with women, Robbie was a gentleman when it came to the girls he truly cared for. Although one could argue his definition of gentleman and care, one couldn't deny that his white knight complex was usually taken well by the girls he showed it to.

If Adrianna needed help, Robbie was going to be there for her.

"Course I can, silly. You just need ta ask." He said confidently. "Alright. Come now. Spill to Uncle Robbie. Safe space and whatnot." He pulled her to the couch and sat her down. "Don't worry about holding back uh?"

Adrianna was expecting him to say no right off the bat. He didn't need to be here. She would let him leave if he couldn't handle it. She was in pain, but she wasn't going to let that get to her. She needed to have fun. She needed to get over her most recent bump in the road. She knew she'd meet someone someday...at least she hoped.

"Are you sure?" Adri asked quietly. She looked up at him cautiously.

Adrian sat next to him and leaned into him for support. It would be the first time she actually talked about it with someone other than her mother. "Okay well...you know how I told you about Talen and I? Well it's over. He cheated on me with this kid named Rhett and told me after it had already happened twice." She spoke softly and in a broken whisper.

The irony of the cause of Adrianna's breakup with Talen did not escape Robbie but he didn't comment on it. He was learning tact, believe it or not.

"Damn, Aid...I'm sorry." Robbie said softly, awkwardly patting her hand. "At least you found it out now, instead of when you got more serious with the guy right?" He said, trying to comfort the dark haired girl.

It was absolutely weird that he was telling the girl all this. He had been responsible for a million of these breakup talks and now he was trying to console a girl he would have done the exact same thing to in a heartbeat?

He just hope nothing he said would ruin his friendship with the brunette. He hated losing friends because he didn't have a filter for his mouth.

Adrianna shrugged and looked down. It wasn't really easy talking about it. She had fallen really hard really fast with Talen. Her mother had actually liked him more than Luke. Adri still didn't understand what she did to make him cheat, but it didn't matter. It was the second time it had happened and both times had torn her to pieces.

"It's my fault. I drove him to that point. I don't know how, but I had to have been responsible for it," She said softly shaking her head back and forth in disbelief. She didn't even want to talk about it, but she knew if she didn't it would destroy her from the inside out.

Adrianna looked up at Robbie and wondered if he had ever done anything like Talen had. Most guys would, she knew that, but it still hurt. It was situations like this that made girls believe that men had no feelings. If it had been reversed, how would Talen have felt?

Robbie resisted the urge to roll his eyes at Adrianna's reply. Constantly, he told himself this was exactly why he never needed relationships any deeper or complicated than friendship. Or sex. Yes, he was that shallow but if it saved him from being a snivelly inconsolable person as how Adrianna was right now, sign him up for any and all shallow connections.

But he knew Adrianna needed to hear the right words. And truth be told, Robbie was pretty sure it wasn't Adrianna's fault. This Talen fella, Robbie had never met him, but if he was gonna cheat on Adrianna with a guy, then it was probably never meant to be in the first place. Adrianna was better off without being a beard to the S.O.B.

"Look, Aid, if the guy is gay then you have nothing to blame yourself for. He made his choice, it just wasn't you and frankly, you're probably better off. And if you ask me, you should try playing the field instead of jumping into a relationship. Relationships suck at best. Don't ruin your life just because some stupid sob decided to break your heart."

Adrianna was the type of girl who lived for relationships. She liked romance and having a boyfriend. She knew she didn't need one, but the idea of love was what hooked her. It was hard to stay single for her. She always jumped at the first sign of a possible relationship.

She had barely known Talen when they started dating. He was a gorgeous face and a hot body when they started dating. She knew nothing about his past girlfriends or anything really. Yes they had shared some things about themselves, but the reality was...she didn't know him. She thought she did, but she didn't. She had fallen for the idea of a good long relationship.

"I guess," She said quietly with a shrug. Adrianna couldn't fully agree though. Relationships were the best part of life when one found who they were looking for. It made things better. Or so she thought....

Robbie was well aware that Adrianna couldn't possibly believe him one hundred percent. If her track record with guys was any indication, her philosophy on love differed so greatly with his. While he was okay with sleeping around, Adrianna relished what came before sleeping with someone. The emotional connection she could have with someone. That feeling you get that when you finally have sex, it's something beautiful and magical and...bullshit. Robbie did not believe any of that.

But Adrianna did.

So Robbie had no other words for the brunette and so he sighed and grabbed hold of Adrianna's hand and stood up. "Come on. I'm taking you out for some ice cream. I'm sure you'll feel a lot better then."

Adrianna had talked to Robbie for quite a while when they were playing the question game. She had an idea of how he thought. He didn't believe in relationships. That's where their opinions differed. It was simple as that. She understood where he was coming from, only because she had known people that were like that. He never got hurt because he never got attached.

Adrianna sighed, she'd never be able to stay unattached. She wore her heart on her sleeve and it was just hanging there for someone to stomp on and crush it. She knew that was one of her biggest problems, but it was still how she was.

"Ice cream sounds great." She took his hand and squeezed it lightly, "Thank you for being here."
