Surprise! (Matthew tags Dani)

Matthew was someplace that he never expected to be.. He was currently standing in front o his new house in Pilot Ridge. After a day of unpacking he was exhausted, but he couldn’t wait to see Dani. He stood in front of his house and looked back at it. It was a light blue color and it was styled in a Victorian style. Dani was going to love her tower though. Chuckling at the thought Matthew looked around. He still was not sure where exactly Hammel was but he figured that it was somewhere around here. He called picked up the last box and set it in the foyer. After checking in with his parents before grabbing the keys to the family car he started off onto the quest o find his sister.

After getting lost so many times, ( Who knew it was a hard thing to do in such a small town?) Matthew finally made his way to the campus of Hammel. As he parked in the parking lot as a guest he made way to the reception to find out Dani’s dorm room. After getting the information from a very helpful receptionist, and successfully signing her out for the day Matthew made his way towards his little sisters room.

Who in the world had decided it was ok to put her in the co-ed dorms? If Matthew had anything to say about it this never would have happened. Too many chances of something would happen. Matthew did not like this arrangement at all. Some might call him overprotective but he was just one to play it safe. Especially with his sister. Honestly she was his treasure. If he was not there to protect her who would? Sighing in worry Matthew put a smile on his face and knocked on the door of her room. Hopefully she would be in. “ Hello?” Matthew spoke in his rare voice. If she was there he might just not be surprising her. After all she was the one who had heard his voice the most. Chuckling he waited patiently for his little sister to open the door and see him. This was a chance to turn the tables on her. This time she was getting a surprise.

Dani actually was not in her dorm until approximately three minutes before the door opened.

She had been headed down the hallway, returning to her dorm after a long day of doing things she was proud of. She had a bruise on her arm that wasn't fading quite as quickly as she'd like, but she'd grown used to it ever since her first prank-gone-wrong at Hammel. It had been long enough since the incident with the blonde chick that she had no bruises left on her face, but that didn't mean she hadn't gotten into it with anyone in the weeks counting from then to now. She had avoided confrontation--mostly. Her life's work wasn't exactly clean, nor was it easy. Sometimes she slipped up, especially with things on her mind like the fact that Switchblade had been acting a little slow lately, and that her math grade had slipped from an A to a B+. She disliked that she couldn't just talk to Matthew on the phone, because he didn't really talk, and she usually communicated with him through some strange form of telepathy, where she looked at him and knew what he was thinking. She was, sadly, out of practice with her brother's thoughts and emotions, and if he even appeared directly in front of her she feared she wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at him anymore. She may not even recognize him--how quickly would he have kept growing?

But that was nonsense. She'd seen Matt at Christmas break; he couldn't have changed that much. Plus, she wasn't too badly out of practice--maybe it wasn't as strong as it should have been, but Dani would still be able to tell what he meant when he said or did something, right? She shook her head, digging through her messenger bag to find her key. Once inside, she flopped down on the couch and turned her iPod up to an ear-damaging volume. She relaxed into her Superchic[k] playlist. But then, halfway through Rock What You Got, she heard a knock, made faint by the music blasting directly into her ears. She didn't really hear the voice behind it, just heaved herself up from where she was half-sitting-half-laying-down, and walked over to the door, hitting pause on her iPod. Opening the door and expecting it to be one of her roommates, she shook her head and began to speak before she noticed who it was. "Dammit, Park, if you forget your key one more time--" She fell silent, staring up at her older brother. He was at least a foot taller than her now, which meant she would have to step back to see him without tilting her head back.

But instead of stepping back, Dani leaped forward and put her arms around his neck in a tight embrace, yelling in a very girly-sounding manner. "Matty~!" Yep, she was happy. And very surprised, no doubt about that. "Oh my gosh, what are you doing here? Why didn't mom and daddy come see me, too? Wait. Everyone's all right, right?" The minor onslaught of questions may have been a bit much, but she needed to know.

Matthew waited while his sister got her act together to come to the door. He was grinning, his smile covering his face. He could hear the music blasting from inside the room. Frowning at the door he hoped that it wasn’t Dani. He knew that she had a tendency to blast music. Especially if no one was around. He heard her get up and wander over to the door.

As Dani approached the door Matthew waited and waited until she finally showed up opening the door with a pissed off look on her face. She even swore at him? Chuckling he looked down at her, “I’m not this Park person. Sorry.” Smiling he looked down at her . This really was a surprise to her wasn’t it. Good. She deserved to be surprised once in a while. He watched as Dani fell silent and stared up at him.

Before Matthew could react she jumped in his arms with a very girly shout. As he hugged her back he smiled. She really was the only one allowed to call him that. He looked down at her as he set her down and he was asked many, many questions. Even for Danicca. He had grown almost a foot since the last time she was home and she seemed to notice that right off the bat. Chuckling he set her down after the appropriate hugging time and held up a finger to tell her to be quiet if he was going to answer all of those questions. She would get what he was trying to say. She always did.

Ina very happy voice Matthew addressed her questions. “ First off, surprise. Secondly mom and dad are still unpacking they sent me to come see you since I was done.” Matthew wondered how long it would be for her to pick up on the not so subtle clue he had left. Talking again he smiled. “Everyone is fine. Mostly we were worried about you. I have arrived here to keep you out of trouble. Well, as best as I can.” Matthew spotted the bruise on her arm and frowned in immediate sight of it. How did she get that bruise? Matthew sighed. She had done it again. “ All right what have you been up to?”

Matthew stared at her with his big brother stare that almost always got it out of her. He wouldn’t tell the rents but he did have to know who to look out for. Lord knows how many people have fallen into her plans since she got here over a year ago. Matt sighed again, “Lets go sis, you’ve been signed out for the day.”

Of course Dani likes to blast music. Switchblade didn't react well to it, but that was why she tended to only do it through earphones. Sunshine, Jared, and that third person that she had yet to actually... meet weren't there just then, though, so she took it upon herself to blast it openly in their common room.

Dani liked Matt hugs. Matt hugs were safe and warm and Matt, and that was what Dani liked about them. Nobody outside her family really hugged Dani--can anyone picture that?--but out of all the hugs, Matt hugs were the very best. Mom hugs came as a very close second. She was a little disappointed when he set her down, but she waited semi-patiently as he explained things. It was awesome to hear his voice after so long. When he was finished talking, Dani crossed her arms and avoided his gaze. She tried to sound nonchalant. "Oh, nothing really. Just, you know, studying and the usual stuff. It's been kinda boring, actually."

But he big-brother-stared. He actually pulled the big brother stare! Dani had no choice but to open her mouth when she looked up and saw that. "I've been pulling jokes on... certain people that deserved it. I swear nobody gets hurt. Well," She dropped her voice here, a quiet mumble as high as you could call it. "I mean, not until the fights break out nobody gets hurt." She was avoiding his eyes again. It was one thing to be called out on her pranks, it was another to have Matt help her, but it was a whole other thing entirely for Matt to call her out on the failed, fight-starting pranks. Dani was particularly ashamed of those ones at certain times.

When Matt told her she'd been signed out, Dani perked up. She hadn't been officially signed out by really anyone. Usually she'd had to sneak out or sign out herself, but it was always that: going out into Pilot Ridge by herself. It wasn't like she had friends to accompany her, and Matt had never really visited her here. Until now. "Ohmigod, really?" She said, her voice completely betraying her excitement.

Matt is not a fan of Dani blasting music. If you were to ask him he would tell you that it would rot your ears and make you go deaf. Especially how Dani blast's it. In Matt's mind, music should be enjoyed in a quiet section. Matt didn't really listen to much music. The music he did listen to was more of a classical and sot sort. Quieter.

If Matt knew that Dani like his hug, felt that they were safe he probably would have lammed up and gone of to someplace to play some soccer in silent enjoyment. Again if he were to learn that no one else really hugged Dani Matt would have been sad, or happy. Happy that no boys were hugging her, but sad she hadn't found anyone that would hug her. But anyway, as Matt was explaining he was astounded that she was actually listening t him speak without interrupting him. It really was a miracle, normally she wouldn't be able to shut up and just listen. It seemed though that she didn't catch the clue that he had left. Sighing he looked at her frowning at her explanation about what she had been up to. “ Now tell me the truth.” Matt glowered at his sister. She would tell him what she had been up to.

Matt waited silently for her to continue. He knew she would. His big brother powers were telling him that she would. Even if she didn't like it. He listened as Admitted to pranking people. Sighing he almost didn't hear the next part that came out of her mouth. He did though however catch it. Fights?! She was getting in Fights?! Grimacing he slowly picked her up and pulled back her shirt sleeves to check if she was okay. Other then that certain bruise she had a few more but none looked like they were very bad. Frowning and over close to losing it Matt looked at his little sister. “No more. Not if you're in fights.” He wouldn't stand it. Not if she was getting in fights. Heck he would even got to class with her if she was getting into fights. His little sister getting hurt was not an option.

Matt smiled a bit when she perked up about being signed out. If he had known about the not having many friends he would have sighed and confronted her, but she didn't tell him and he hadn't asked. Looking over at his younger sister Matt smiled and nodded. “ Yes, so get whatever you want or the day and lets go.” Matt smiled. At the end of the day he would show her their new house. That was the final surprise.

Dani didn't like Matt finding out about her getting in fights--but at least he would never know the full extent of the damages that some of these things lead to. She tried to fight him, halfheartedly pulled her arms back, but in the end it was pointless. He pulled her sleeves up, and it was all over. Her entire relationship with playing pranks around Hammel would have to end, he would tell Mom, she would be so fracking dead. She only nodded sullenly, thinking that she could find a way out of this later. Hopefully, it would come to her if she stalled long enough.

Dani held up a finger and ran back into her room, grabbing her bag, throwing some food pellets at Switchblade, and running a brush through her hair once before all but sprinting back out of the dorm, not even bothering to lock the door. Park or Sunshine would be back relatively soon, she supposed. She grabbed Matt's hand and started down the hall, very nearly bouncing in her excitement. "So where are we going, Matty? Can we get ice cream today? I don't get ice cream very often these days, mostly I'm too busy to go anywhere and get some, but today I get to go places with you!"

She was babbling, but this was Matt. She was just happy to have him there, with her, visiting so very willingly, taking her places... Okay, Dani was happy in general. There wasn't even really a reason.

Matt almost glared at his little sister. He was furious, she was getting into fights. That in itself was something he could not and would not tolerate. He just gave her a glare as she tried to fight him. The look would make her stop in her tracks if she knew what was good for her. He would have to put in some research about just how bad she had pissed people off. Sighing he slowly set her down and bent down to her eye level. You could tell he was getting ready to ay something. Well he was. And she better listen. When he was certain that she was listening and that she would follow his words he slowly began to speak. “ Danicca, No more pranks. Not if they are getting you in fights. You promise me no more and I won't tell mom or dad. I am asking you kindly here, giving you a choice. Now make a decision.” Matt stared at his little sister. What would she choose?

Matt watched as his sister held up a finger indicating for him to wait. She really was a ball of energy and he had missed her. He poked his head in the door as she was running around the room in a rush. Smiling as he saw switchblade and her treatment of him he just chuckled. When she came running out the door not even bothering to lock it. Smirking he silently shut the door as she came out and wrapped an arm around his little sister. A smiled played his features as she asked questions.Nodding at all the information he just shook his head in laughter.

Matt made is way towards the parking lot to his car. Yes his car. He had finally saved up enough to buy one. Smirking he opened the door to it and motioned for her to get in. He was damn proud of that car. It was something he had worked hard for and not a single cent was given to him. He earned that car. Smiling he made his way over to the other side and got in. “ Where to princess?”

Dani nearly sighed, and also nearly cried. To give up pranking would be to give up nearly everything she had. Nobody really liked her in the first place, and nobody would forget the jokes she'd pulled before. What was the point of giving it up if nobody else wanted to give up on that? So, she did the one thing she could think to do: she said "I promise." She didn't know what else she could do. Matt was too much to resist, especially when he was being so serious about her getting hurt. She could, in no way, resist him.

Once she saw his car, she let out a girlish squeal of delight and excitement. No way, Matty! You got it? Oh my gosh, it must have cost you a fortune, how did you pay for it?" She turned to him, her expectant eyes sparkling, once she was in the car. She was so happy for him! He'd been wanting a car since he was fifteen and she was thirteen, and now he finally had one that was his and his own. At his question of where she wanted to go, she shrugged and smiled wider. "Anywhere's good in this town. They've got a lot for being middle-of-nowhere Vermont. We can go to the mall, I guess."

She was going to have a day with Matt. And then she'd get to see her parents, which she was also very happy about. She wondered how long they were staying for, and why they were choosing now to visit, but she'd ask that later.

Matt looked in her eyes his slight fear showing through. What would happen if his baby sister was hurt? Or made the wrong person angry? He sighed as she wouldn't look at him. He forced her to keep looking at him and slowly started to smile as she looked up at him with a resigned look. He smiled more and pulled her into a hug when she promised him that there would be no more. It felt as if a great weight had been lifted off of her shoulders when he said that. It made him extremely happy and glad that he had come. Who knows what sort of trouble she would get in without him.

Matt had a visible smile on his face when she noticed it. He had worked his butt off to pay for it and she would have know it. He had been saving money since he was fifteen. Cent by cent by cent he was able to save enough for it. It may not be the perfect car but it was his. He had earned it. She would understand as soon as they got home. Of that he was sure. What he wasn't sure of however was if she had guessed her surprise yet. If she hadn't he wasn't going to say anything. When she mentioned that she wanted to go to the mall Matt gave a grin and gave her a small salute pulling out of Hammel. Smiling he waited for her to give directions.

Matt was really happy they had decided to move. He was ecstatic. They could all be together again. Honestly he had been worried about his baby sister. It was not as if he was someone who was really understood by others and he was mad at the fact that he had lost his baby sister, the only one who had always understood him, to Hammel. He was mad at the recruiter, and he was mad at the stupid power. Or he was at least. It was better now that he was able to be there with her. Smiling Matt pulled into the mall parking lot and parked the car. This was going to be a good day.
