So Not A Slumber Party (Robbie)

So it’s Thursday night once again.

With all the chaos that ensued the past two weeks, he’s completely forgotten about it. About his weekly ritual with JD and Robbie. Where they sleep over at someone else’s place to watch movies and simply goof off. (Though they usually do it in Zac’s house in Pilot Ridge, so they have someone to clean up after them and no one to scold them if they got too loud). It started off as a simple night to watch cartoons, and since they didn’t get the chance to watch everything JD downloaded, it continued. On and on until it just became that, a weekly slumber partyritual (because men don’t have slumber parties).

It kept Zac sane from all the craziness high school had to throw at him. Oh how he desperately needs one right now.

But with JD angry athating him and Robbie sulking like crazy, there’s not much to look forward to. There’s no point in doing it. He’d just be more depressed than he was before. Or would he?

Grabbing his usual blue duffel bag and stuffing it with the usual – DVDs, snacks, a blanket – he promptly set off towards his blonde friend’s room. Hopefully he’ll let him in though.

“Robbie, Robbie it’s me, Zac,” he knocked at the door, hoping it’d be him and not Danicca that’ll answer. “It’s Thursday night remember? We still haven’t watched Insidious. That and I have a copy of Modern Warfare 3.” Yes, Zac has the game at least six weeks before the release date. Hooray connections.

“Dude, I’ll break the door and rape you if you won’t let me in right now.”

One glance at the bottom corner of the computer screen told him it was Thursday. He heaved a long sigh and switched off his laptop to burrow himself under his blanket. The prank had been over for a month already and in that time, he had not seen any of his friends, save Dani and Jared and only because they were his roommates.

And not seeing JD and especially Zac for awhile made Robbie kind of nuts. He was ready to go to sleep, pushing the thought of spending time with his bros to the back of his mind as he tried to drift off to sleep.

He was half conscious and already dreaming about a giant toothpaste tube falling on him when he heard the door being banged on. He didn't hear anyone answering the door and kind of thought someone was trying to push the toothpaste tube off him.

But after a few more knocks, Robbie realised he was no longer dreaming and the door was really being knocked on and nobody else was answering. He dragged himself out of bed and with quick glances to the two other rooms that his friends were occupying, he found that they were both closed.

He sighed and moved to the door just in time to hear Zac's threat. "You say that like it's a bad thing." Robbie smiled sleepily before dragging Zac in. Once on the couch, he pulled Zac down and flopped his head down on to Zac's lap, nuzzling it lightly as his eyes closed once more. "Mmmmishu." He mumbled.

All of Zac’s worries vanished the moment he saw what seems to be a still sleepy Robbie open the door. If it wasn’t for that sheepish smile and that ‘uniquely Robbie’ retort, he would’ve thought that the blonde was sleepwalking.

When Robbie suddenly pulled him close for a hug, Zac didn’t resist one bit. He owes the boy that, and so much more. He dragged the innocent boy on his prank, unwillingly turned the school against him and didn’t visit him as much for the past weeks. Sure they said their ‘hi’s and ‘hello’s whenever they pass each other, joked a bit during their shared breaks, but he never really went out of his way to comfort Robbie. Sure he had his own share of drama (read: JD) but after a while, he figured it wasn’t enough of an excuse really.

So he allowed himself to be dragged onto the couch, placing the goods he brought on the floor before gently massaging the boy’s back and ruffling his hair. “Who doesn’t?” he teased, “Ammishutoo.” It was fun seeing the boy’s smile again. Seems he’s slowly getting over the whole fuss.

All things considered, Zac would’ve happily agreed to simply spend the night like this. That’s what his main plan was anyway; to know if Robbie bore him any ill will (and apologize rightfully if he did) and make him smile again. But then he’d brought so much stuff, and part of him says that he shouldn’t let it go to waste. “Oh hey, first things first,” he grinned, shuffling slightly so he can bend over and grab the stainless steel thermos without making Robbie unclasp his hands around him, “Stella made you soup the other day. Hopes it’ll make you happy.” He happily put it on the center table, grabbing two spoons from his bag. “So you want me to grab a bowl or you’d just eat it straight from the thermos?”

Robbie wrapped his arms around Zac's thigh, hugging him close, finding the close proximity so comforting. He found it increasingly hard to admit to the fact that he was starting to not only find feelings a welcome sight, but Zac, for all his idiosyncracies, was a good friend. No matter what other people thought, the guy had some pretty redeeming qualities that Robbie was finding hard to resist. Not that he ever did.

The hand in his hair was slowly making him sleepy but apparently Zac was not there to let him go to sleep, evident in him moving about. But Robbie kept his arms intact, even when Zac pulled out the thermos and spoons. Robbie only pulled his head up to sniff at the soup. "Too lazy to get bowls. Feed me." He ordered as he slowly and lazily unwound his arms from Zac and sat up only to lean back on the couch.

"I'm so tired. Why am I so tired? I don't want to be tired. I hate the word tired. Who invented the word should be shot, murdered and decapitated." He grumbled, burying his face on the back of the couch.

Nope. Sleeping was at the bottom of Zac’s agenda. They’ve never slept early during their Thursday nights off; heaven knows he wouldn’t let the blonde off easily, even if they’re missing a member. “You lazy brat,” laughed the mimic as Robbie finally let go, sneaking in a noogie as he opened the flask. He took a big whiff off the soup as he put the lid on the side and he suddenly found his mouth watering as well; it’s been a day and yet it still smells as yummy as before.

The trip to the kitchenette was a quick one, so once he’s transferred the (half of the) contents of the thermos to a red bowl, he grabbed a big spoonful and gave Robbie’s cheeks a light pat, prompting them to open. “You’re like a big baby you know that.” For some odd reason though, he’s having way too much fun with the whole setup. “You should thank Stella soon after. It was originally only for me, but when I told her you’re feeling blue, she made more.”

“I think you’ve been watching way too much porn again, you horndog. That’s why you’re tired,” he teased, his laughter the warmest it has been over the past month. He gave Robbie a few more spoonfuls before he stood up and loaded Insidious in one of the blonde’s game consoles. Nothing better than watching a horror movie while eating an extremely hot soup right?

As the opening credits began to roll, Zac slowly cleared his throat, hoping he’d sound serious for the next few moments or so. “Robbie, I’m sorry.” For dragging you into this mess. For making you an outcast. For breaking you and Estelle up. So much thoughts, but he couldn’t get himself to say it. He could only hope that the blonde gets it.

“You weren’t mad at me, are you?”

"Don't judge," Robbie grumbled, sniffling slightly as he tried to get comfortable on the couch without Zac to lean on. The soup got to him as he sat up straight and peered over the mimic's shoulder to see what soup he got. He then leaned against the arm of the couch and waited until Zac was ready to feed him.

Only moving to open his mouth, Robbie took a sip of the hot soup and grinned sleepily at Zac's remark. "Don't tell me you don't like taking care of me, LaRousse. I know you do." Robbie nodded at Zac's order. "I will when I see her. You're getting a lot closer to her aren't you? Something there, Zachie?"

He sighed exaggeratedly, although not actually offended by the remark. "Maybe. My hand's been pretty cramped lately." He laughed lightly. When Zac got off the couch and put in the DVD, Robbie took a long sip of the soup straight from the bowl and smiled. He'd have to get Stella to make more for him.

Robbie turned from his post on the couch when Zac apologised and asked him if he was mad at him. With a frown, he got up and sat with his legs crossed under him. "Why would I be mad at you?"

Zac simply smirked at Robbie’s grumbling, settling back to his place when he got back with the bowls. “I’m not really sure what it’s called,” he said when he felt Robbie’s breath on his neck, supposedly reading what was in the boy’s mind, “It has wonton and some fish in it. So fish and wonton soup? I don’t know; don’t judge me.” He’s no food connoisseur after all. “I burned the eggs that last time I cooked for you remember?”

And he knows he shouldn’t have told that to Robbie. Because saying that inadvertently meant he’s forced to remember the said event too. And boy was the trip down memory lane, brief as it was, rather painful.

He did manage to put another smile on his face as he turned to Robbie, soup ready for his consumption.

“Well then I won’t,” teased the boy as he sent another spoonful towards the blonde’s mouth, “I mean, you didn’t even give me a bath when I was sick you know. I’m still bitter over that.” Zac was caught off-guard with Robbie’s next question though. “Huh? What do you mean?” Better act innocent for a while, just so the blonde won’t think there’s really something happening. “She’s like, I don’t know, a daughter to me. Much like you’re my little son.” Weird analogy. Much weirder once you consider the thing that happened in the not-so-distant past. “And besides, I just got dumped remember. I need to time to heal.”

He couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the sheer hilarity of his last statement. And yes, he’s basically patting himself at the back.

“I hear using a pillow works perfectly too. Allows you to mimic the actual thing too,” he winked as he came back, shaking his head when he saw how Robbie gulped the remaining soup from the bowl. “Gosh, it’s like you haven’t eaten in days. Here, there’s more where that came from.” If he’s going to drink it up straight, better to just give him the thermos.

It’s pretty obvious that Zac wasn’t paying much attention to the screen anymore. And it’s not just because the volume’s a little low than what he usually sets up when he’s watching a movie with Robbie and JD. “Well, I pretty much screwed things up for you. And…” he gulped, taking in a deep breath before he continued, “…I may have gotten Estelle even more furious when I tried to apologize to her on your behalf.”

"Well, it's not like it's the words that are making the soup delicious so whatever it is, put it in me now." He demanded, making faces at Zac, much like a baby would while having a tantrum. The reminder of the last time they'd all been together was rather painful and Robbie didn't need to go under another funk on top of the one he was already in so he kept quiet about it.

"Psh, I don't wanna touch your ugly ass paynis any more than I already have to, LaRousse." Robbie teased back, not really meaning it, obviously. Zac's innocent act had the blonde weather manipulator rolling his eyes. "Suuuure, whatever." The blonde teen also saw how weird the analogy was but didn't comment on it. That thing that happened was probably better not aired out in public. Especially not when Vincent Verax was involved.

"HAH, what is there to heal? Ya big heartless doof." He paused to listen to what Zac had to say next and barked out another incredulous laughter. "See, evidence of your heartlessness. Can't even spare me hand. I'm your friend, Zac. Does that not mean anything to you?" Robbie whipped out his best wounded puppy dog expression, sniffling all the way.

The comment about his eating was met with a shrug. "You know me. Insatiable hunger." Robbie grabbed the thermos from Zac, sipping slowly, careful not to burn his tongue.

Robbie was sort of feeling much better as the soup worked its magic but when Zac mentioned apologising to Estelle, the blond teen went from okay to bad. And then bad to worst. He set the thermos on the table and turned to face Zac. "You...apologised to Estelle...on my behalf....?" Robbie stood up and grabbed Zac by his collar and pulled him up. They were more or less the same height but Robbie towered him by a couple of inches. "Zachary. Drake. LaRousse. You motherf-" Robbie stopped himself from going further before punching him in the gut and shoving him down the couch.

"Do you know how stupid Estelle would think I am? How much of a coward she would think I am? What did you say? I bet you tried to take the blame for the prank. Didn't you?" Robbie demanded, pacing the floor before kicking the couch in anger. "Damn it, Zac! I was going to apologise on my terms. I didn't need you or anybody fighting my battles. Especially not with Estelle!" He raked his fingers through his hair as all the fight he had just drained out of him when he realised that there was no way Estelle was going to forgive him now.

"Fuck," Robbie dropped down on the couch, his head landing back on Zac's lap. "Goddammit, LaRousse. I had...the perfect apology. Now I don't think anything I do or say could change anything. She probably thinks I'm a major loser for sending people to apologise for me." He was near tearing up now as he slammed a fist down Zac's knee. "Why'd you have to do that uh?"

Robbie did look like a toddler, so Zac spared no second pinching the boy’s cheeks and contorting the blonde’s face, as if he’s his own personal clay to mold and play with. “Hey, I’m the only one allowed to be a brat in this room,” chuckled the mimic, poking the weather manipulator’s sides, “Stop trying to steal my identity. Or else I’ll leave. Then you’d be alone watching this horror movie. Heaven knows the couch will be wet by morning.”

Yes, let’s completely ignore the fact that Zac screamed more than ten times when he watched The Haunting in Connecticut with Robbie or JD. Or that he snuggled close to the two after they saw The Omen.

“Pfft. Just admit that my ugly ass paynis owns your nearly inexistent one any day of the week.” Cue in the boisterous laughs and the inappropriate gesture with his pinky. Robbie’s comment about him being a heartless doof was promptly met with a not-so-slight shove, completed with his usual tongue-out teasing.

Robbie telling him that made Zac’s day. He laughed the hardest he had in days that tears were forming in his eyes already and he has to clutch on his stomach to stop himself. “Is this an elaborate plot of yours? ‘Cause if it is, it’s working,” he grinned, “Fine. I’ll give you a hand. A head even if you ask nicely.”

See? Robbie’s his total son.

And with one simple confession, all the good cheer around them vanished. He wasn’t really sure telling Robbie was the best thing he could’ve done, but he wanted to come clean. Then all the anger came in and now he’s cursing himself for even trying to do good.

He showed no resistance when Robbie grabbed him by his collar, instinctively flinching and shrinking away when the blonde started shouting on his face. The punch hurt like hell (he was still recovering from the horrific beating Moe gave him after all) but deep inside, he knew he deserved it.

“B-because y-you really a-aren’t to b-blame.” And he didn’t really mean to make Robbie look like that. In his mind, he was just righting a wrong. He wasn’t meddling, he kept telling himself back then; he was helping.

Seems he was wrong.

When Robbie flopped down beside him, he tried his hardest to sit up. It was quite a feat, considering how painful his ribs still are. “ I-I…” Words were suddenly escaping the boy who can talk his teachers’ ears off. He couldn’t do anything but hug the blonde boy close, biting his lip so those tears wouldn’t fall. “I-I didn’t want you to hate m-me. I don’t think I’d s-survive if you’d cast me off like JD too.”

"Pfftt, please. That is forever my job. You're just a spoiled rich kid. My pops just gave me loadsa love so I'm the entitled brat. Hah!" He felt most dignified [sarcasm] when Zac started to pinch his cheeks. He of course didn't mean anything by the dad comment and he definitely had no intention of insulting Zac, even if it did insult the heir.

Robbie looked at Zac with a deadpan look at his self-loving remark that lasted about two seconds before he laughed out loud. "Hah! Excuse me, I am adequate. You should know." Robbie stuck his tongue out maturely.

Unaware of his friend's inner turmoil, Robbie went on his own rampage and once he was out of steam, he had crawled back to Zac's lap, listening to his mutterings and sighed as he realised he was also fighting back tears. He got up into a sitting position and pulled Zac by the collar. "You know me, Zac. You know that I would never hate you. You're my boy. Nothing would change that but you gotta ask me first when you do things that you know would affect me. And the people I care about.

"And JD hasn't casted you off. No way no how. The boy is incapable of hating anyone." Robbie said confidently before letting go of Zac's collar. "Shit, LaRousse. I can't believe you're the one making me cry." Robbie laughed, pawing at his eyes to get rid of the unfallen tears.

"You better make it up to me and Estelle." Robbie threatened jokingly at Zac before pulling him for a brief hug. "If you tell anybody about this, I will kill you. And then get you reanimated and then maim you. You got that?"

And that just proves that inviting Robbie into his little circle of (true) friends was one of the best decisions Zac has ever made in his life.

“Oh how I hate you right now Robbie,” chuckled the mimic, pulling the weather manipulator into a hug the moment he released his collar. For a moment or two, he just sat there, grinning in silence, arms wrapped tightly around the blonde. He still couldn’t believe that Robbie wasn’t really that angry with him. Sure his punches hurt, but for some reason, they’re slowly fading.

Overcome by relief, his tears suddenly trickled down his cheeks, making him sniff and bury his nose on Robbie’s hair. It’s a good thing he’s still a few inches taller than him then. “Pfft. You’re the crying one? Look at what you did to me,” he said, rubbing his nose repeatedly on Robbie’s head, “For that you have to let me spend the night here with you. Since I can’t go running around the dorms with this on my face anymore.”

Had Zac been a mere watcher and not an actual participant, he would’ve gagged and heckled repeatedly already, yelling that the two should just get a room. ‘Cause really take so much cheesy emotional stuff, and this is getting way over the brat’s threshold.

“Yeah, I don’t think JD’s capable of hating anyone too. But I guess I’m the precedent,” he muttered glumly as he released the boy from his death grip, “I told my Uncle to take care of his parents – his father specially – but apparently he doesn’t think he’s important enough.” Briefly he wonders how Robbie’s parents took the news about their son. “Will you help me with him dude?”

Feeling a bit uncomfortable with their general position at the foot of the couch, he nudged the boy just slightly, his arm still slung over Robbie’s shoulder since the horror scenes are starting to roll. “Sure thing! Which would you want, a trip for two to the Bahamas or to Bali?” he grinned, winking impishly, “Or anywhere else for that matter. Just tell me where and I’ll take care of your honeymoon.”

"Yeah well, feeling's mutual." Robbie chuckled reveling in the warmth of Zac's body against his. How Robbie could be angry with Zac was his biggest guess. Zac was among the few who treated him good when he had first entered Hammel. No matter what people said about the heir, Robbie had a tender spot when it came to the animal mimic. They had history not even Estelle could parallel. Not that Robbie was comparing. He knew he sort of loved Estelle more than Zac. But he still loved Zac.

Robbie looked up and saw the tears running down Zac's cheek and he chuckled before wiping it with the hem of his t-shirt. "Yeah, best you stay here. Especially since I just saw more of this stupid movie than I wanted to." Robbie let go of Zac and leaned back against the mimic's arm.

The mention of JD made Robbie sigh. He knew the prank was going to cost him some friends but not break them up. Robbie thought their friendship was stronger than that, however unconventional they started out. "Of course I would. I didn't realise JD took this harder than I did. I'll talk to him. He can't...he shouldn't get mad at you this much." Robbie shook his head before stretching one arm out to ruffle the back of Zac's head affectionately. "We're gonna be fine, man." He reassured the darker haired boy.

Zac's tease about him and Estelle made the blond grin. "Shut up, ass. And you are now the sole provider for a years' supply of milkshakes. For both of us." He poked Zac on the side, glad they're attempting to get back to normal.
