Sweet Encounters ( Avi Tags Stella)

Avi had gotten up for the day knowing that it was a relaxing day for her. She had no claims, and no place to be today. She was going to relax as best as she knew how. Smiling she had gotten up and donned an outfit , that in her mind, was perfect for summer. The top, was of a baby doll style and was checked with a string halter. Her jeans were on her feet and her dark blue toenails could be seen with her flip flops that had plops of blue on the rim of it. Avi had pulled her blond curls back into a half ponytail, half down style ad had her lucky star hair clips placed in her hair. She had also donned a star necklace and a pair of star earrings. Overall the look was a summery fell that Avi liked.

Avi was sitting in the student lounge. She had finally gotten a day where nothing was required of her and all of her work was done and all the running was done. So what was she doing? She was sitting in the student lounge watching television along with her laptop. The place was pretty deserted and Avi was enjoying the fact. Sometimes it was best to just sit there and watch the television. Avi was flipping through the channels trying to find something to watch. She absentmindedly flipped through them while thinking on the work that she was doing in math. Honestly Avi liked math. Shocking isn't it? Avi didn't mind. Math was simple. You did this and got that. There was no two ways about it. That was the thing that she liked the most.

She finally settled on the Food Network channel and sat back in the chair that she had claimed, along with the remote. She was watching Amazing Wedding Cakes and grinning all along the while. It really was amazing what these people could do in the kitchen. Avi was banned from it when ever she was home. They just didn't understand that sometimes you had to experiment a bit before you got it right. In all actuality Avi liked baking, but was a horrible cook and had no patience for baking. Smiling she watched as the baker transformed a few ingredients into a wonderful cake. Plus it made everything look so yummy.

Television had never really featured in Stella’s life; before her eyesight had deteriorated she had been able to watch documentaries but her uncle had had most of the channels blocked. Now, unless she sat right in front of the screen it was impossible for her to make it out enough to notice much. Still, listening to it could be a way to pass the time when she didn’t know what else to do. Sidra still scared her, and Zac, well.... Stella was never one to avoid people...

But she was making sure she didn’t cross the animal mimic’s path. There wasn’t really a reason for it, other then the albino finding it... uncomfortable to be around him for long.

When she tapped into the lounge with her cane and found a seat, someone had turned a cooking program on and she could understand almost all the words now. The bone white girl smiled and closed her eyes to listen to the recipe. ”Ah, excuse me,” she asked the girl near her, for she’d been able to make out bright blonde hair when she;d taken a seat, ”what does the cake look like? Did the colours work? They sounded a bit worried about the decorations.”

As usual, her voice was soft and a little uncertain, but cooking was something that was worth her talking to strangers over.

Avi loved watching Food network. If anything that was the only channel she watched on television, except for the occasional news report. Avi was someone who didn't sit still for very long, but she was entranced by the food and delightful looks of things on the channel. For her mom it was the only times that she would clean, when Avi was plugged into the television.

Of course Avi was going to notice an Albino girl come into the student lounge. That was just a given. She gave the other girl a small smile though before settling back into the chair to watch the program. The cake looked so delicious. They were using a butter cream frosting to set the fondant at the moment and Avi smiled as the baker fixed it so the cake could be made ready in time for the wedding.

Avi glanced over at the other girl as she closed her eyes and listened to the program that seemed to be describing the cake. Avi herself frowned when they dropped all of those rock candy decorations. Smiling she listened as the girl began to speak in a soft tone of voice. “The cake looks like it is coming together well, as the blues and the greens are blending to create exactly what the buyer wanted.” She smiled and continued after the drama on the television was resolved. “Well the did just drop all of the rock candy they had made. So now they are scrambling to get it all prepared for the cake.”

Smiling over at the girl Avi felt the need to introduce herself. “ I am Avi by they way. I am afraid I haven't seen you around much, which is weird since I have been here since I was eleven... Nice to meet you.”

"Wonderful," Stella murmured, smiling as she imagined the creation. A small giggle bubbled forth as she heard about the problem with the 'rock candy' (though what kind of sweet was made from rocks she could not say). Who it was who would want to create an entire tropical beach for a wedding cake, Stella could not imagine but the pure-white girl thought it was a lovely, if unusual, idea. The bride to be had sounded so excited when she'd explained her idea to the bakers.

"Oh, thank you, Avi," Stella said slowly, and in what she considered to be the norm in ediquette the chinese girl held out one pale hand. "My name is Stella," she said quietly, doing ehr best at a friendly smile. This girl seemed friendly, her smile, even through Stella's less then perfect eyes, looked inviting. Even so, her eyes glanced at towards her hand, just in case.

Her already slightly pigmented cheeks flushed darker her tongue darted out to moisten her lips. "I, ah, started late," she tried to explain, "I've not been her long, well, a year but I keep to my room only," her hand twitched towards the white cane resting by her leg, "if I want to watch the programs, I, ah, need a bit of help..."

Her manners returned to her, and her eyes widened at her own rudeness. "Oh, yes! Thank you for your descriptions, Avi. I love cooking shows,"

Avi nodded at the wonderful statement, still absorbed in the show." Really? What sort of bakes let the interns handle mass amounts of spun and hardened sugar art? You would think they would handle it themselves, much less of a chance of dropping it." Avi sighed. Sometimes she didn't think the bakers had any sense at this one shop.

Avi nodded as the other girl thanked her. " You are quite welcome." Avi smiled over at the albino girl as she had tentatively stuck a hand out. "Nice to meet you Stella. Pretty name. " Avi shook the other girls outstretched hand and then turned her head up to the television. Smiling back over at Stella Avi gasped as they dropped the cake. A second time! " Damn those interns, They just dropped the cake!"

Avi watched in amusement as Stella grew a reddish shade, The girl was blushing. Avi didn't know why but it was fine with her. There was nothing wrong with the other girl ,but Avi hadn't the faintest clue as to why the other girl was blushing. Smiling Avi nodded at her explanation and waited until she was finished talking to give her reply. " Well that would explain it then." Avi frowned for a moment though.

" Why don't you leave your room?" Avi was curious.There was nothing wrong with the girl. It was not as if she were diseased or something. Avi frowned. She wasn't getting picked on was she? She frowned at the thought. " If you are getting picked on or something I will put a stop to it immediately." Avi licked her lips. She wouldn't tolerate someone bullying her friend.Yes Stella you have been moved into the friend category now.

Avi wouldn't have guessed the girl thought she was ruse. t never even crossed her mind. Avi smiled as she was thanked. It was really nothing. Nothing at all. " So do I, unfortunately I am horrendous in the kitchen. I can make a pretty good cake though. At least I would know enough not to hand it to the interns." Avi shuddered. She still couldn't believe they dropped the cake. " You are welcome. Any time." Avi was telling the truth. If the girl wanted to watch cooking shows she would watch them. Avi was just like that.

"Oh no!" Stella clapped her hands over her mouth and shook her head, able to hear the staff on the show chastising the interns. "Oh that's too bad. All that work too." Having dropped a few meals herself when she'd miscalculated the distance from the bench to the table, the poorly sighted girl could sympathise.

"Summer is not so good, I get burnt and my eyes, ah, do not cope," the light manipulator explained sheepishly, "and, ah, I am not so used to many people," which was something of an understatement. "Oh no, no, no one is, is, ah picking on me!" Stella seemed shocked by the very thought, for while Sidra could send her scurrying with a word no one had ever been deliberately malicious. Still, the fact that Avi had offered to help seemed like she wanted to be friends. Stella needed friends; it was getting shameful having to explain to her uncle why she did not have many people to write about.

"I like cake," Stella offered helpfully, "but I can not decorate, I can't see well enough to do, the, ah, the details. I like making soup, and dumplings, and I make cookies sometimes, and moon cake." She laughed a little at the idea of Avi instructing interns, and smiled a little more openly. "So, Avi, can you tell me about yourself? You seem a very, ah, bright person."

Avi wasn't really taken aback by shock. It was more anger at the interns. They dropped it and now she was mad. A small wind was blowing as she tried to contain her anger. She knew that she could be of no help and getting angry wouldn't solve anything but it was making her feel better. Smiling she nodded at Stella "It really is. I can't wait to see what they do.” Avi liked this part of the show where the bakers had to scramble to fix the cake in almost no time flat. If Avi was in charge the interns would be fired.

Avi looked at the girl sitting next to her. “ I see, its a shame there are lot of summer things that are fun to do.” At the next part of Stella's statement Avi frowned. Her expression quickly changed though when she had a thought. “ We will just have to change that won't we?” Avi's once stern expression gave away to a smile when she admitted she wasn't getting picked on. “ Good.” Avi gave a smile towards the girl and looked over at her. “ If they were they would be stopped, that I can gaurntee you.” Avi would not condone bullying. Especially it being done to her friends. “ My friends wont be bullied.”

Avi smiled as Stella said she liked cake. “ What type of cake do you like?” Avi smiled and thought of her favorite cake. Angel food cake. Especially made from scratch. It was the first cake Avi had learned to make and to her it was the most delicious. Avi smiled as Stella went on to explain about decorations and dumplings. “Its fine that you can't decorate. Taste is all that really maters anyway.” Smiling again she looked at the albino girl. “ Moon cake? What is that?” Avi was not sure what it was but that wouldn't stop her from saying this next comment. “ Make me some? Ill make you cake?” Yes Avi bargaining is the way to get Stella to make you food.

When Stella asked Avi to talk about herself Avi gave a soft smile. “Well what do you want to know?” Avi had to stifle a laugh at the bright comment, coming from the girl who glowed.
