Lia had her cell phone between her shoulder and her ear. However it was not that side of her body that was the problem at the moment. Instead it was the three year old who refused to hold still in her other arm. David was writhing and wiggling and giggling as he tended to do.
“Mama, mama, mama, moooooom.” Lia glanced at her son as she tried to also speak to her daycare provider.
“Yes, I know, I understand. Have a… hold on sweetie… have a good vacation.” She hung up the phone, snapping it shut and then looked at David.
“Yes?”
“Put me down!”
“Not if you run around ok? You need to sit down and eat your lunch.” Usually he was really good but David seemed to be really fussy right now. It might have just been that he was overly excited and this was a change in his schedule. He was generally at daycare on busy days, but this was an exception. The provider was on vacation starting today, and so David was work bound along with her.
She put him down right on the chair that she had pulled up for him next to a table. She grabbed the Peanut butter and jelly sandwich out of the little lunchbox that she had packed for him. Instantly it was out in front of him.
“There, and look the crusts are off.” She kissed the top of his head as he reached for one of the triangles of sandwich. Yulia took her own lunch out and then sat down next to him. He would be just fine as long as he had his sandwich, but since they were somewhat invading the teacher lounge she did her best to keep a close eye on him. Still he knew better than to cause too much mischief himself. He was undeniably precocious, but today he had been a little fussy. She had woken him up early to bring him to work with her and he was just getting over a little cold. This generally meant he was switching between demanding upon doing everything by himself like a big boy and wanting to be help constantly.
Lia reached over and checked his forehead, just to make sure that the fever was definitely gone. It had gone away two days ago but she was overly cautions.
