Card Castle (Avi.)

[Avinea Jale]

Avi looked at him as he laughed at her serious answer. “I never really fit in anywhere else before I was meta. Then I didn't fit in here. Hammel is a home Ginger. The sooner you learn that the sooner you can start to be happy.” Avi gave a small chuckle as she thought about her words. It was true, every one of them. At least to her they were. Avi didn't fit in with her family. She was too loud, o brash and too Avi. The only one who liked her really was her dad, but he didn't understand her. To her Hammel was home. Nothing Ginger could say would change that.

Avi smiled as Ginger got a grin on his face when she asked about the cards. “ Oh I don't know it might have been the castle?” Avi gave her normal smart-alec remark before smiling once again as he began to explain. “There is room to grow with cards. Always adaptable.” Avi smiled and noticed how the way Ginger was acting was different then normal. Bingo, vantage point. He liked cards. Slowly Avi was getting more and more of his personality out of him.

Avi was too busy laughing when he shushed her. In response she put her hands over her mouth to stop from laughing too hard. When the librarian looked away she stuck out her tongue at her and made a face. “Old hag, can't have any fun.” Avi grinned over at the Ginger and smiled again. “Yes I've been kicked out of here before you ask. Can't say its not entirely my fault though.” Avi smiled as Odion laughed with her. “No you've got your eye on someone. I can see it.” Avi laughed again. Really she was good at guessing these things. She had predicted when people were going to go out before and she was almost always right. She knew a good match when she saw one. “ Now who is it? I'll help any way I can.”Avi smirked and waited for the reaction.

Avi smiled at the Ginger's question. “Well, no one has come along yet I suppose.” Avi gave a slight smirk before smiling again. “Why?” This was fun talking to the redhead , and gosh darn it he was finally opening up.

“Home is where the heart is,” he decided to say, finding the truth easier to come up with. Still, the way he had been acting, she would probably think he was just making something up. “I am happy,” he said, for reasons he wasn’t about to share. Yes he was lonely sometimes, and yes he often wished he hadn’t come here, but he kept telling himself that eventually it would be worth it. Odion wasn’t a quitter, and he didn’t give up easily. He too, was a loyal friend, but that didn’t come easily.

Odion laughed a little harder as Avi stuck her tongue out at the librarian, and he too quickly shut his trap. So much for staying out of the spotlight, not with the blonde by his side anyways. “It is entirely your fault,” he protested, her arms on the rests of the chair, sitting back comfortably. He had a feeling he wouldn’t need to be too on guard with this girl, he would just see how things turned out naturally.

“You see a lot of things. Apparently you know why I’m here and who I ‘have my eye on’.” He said, a challenging smile on his face. He could be just as stubborn as Avi, albeit slightly more witty. He wasn’t sure if he liked talking so much, but he would try and get a better reign on his mouth before it got the best of him. He wasn’t used to chatting so much, and he didn’t want to slip up and say something stupid. “Like I said before, I just got here,” he said, trying to appease the girl across from him.

He shrugged, “I think you’re lovely, I thought others might find the same,” he said with a straight face and a small smile.

When Ginger started to talk about home being where the heart was she just smiled a small little smile and nodded. “ Which makes me wonder if you are looking for your heart here.” Avi's eyes twinkled as he said he was happy. He didn't give a reason. Nor a rhyme why, but it was apparent by his small smile and his features that were playing his face. “ Good. Everyone deserves a little happiness in their lives.” Avi looked over at the boy and smiled just a bit more sincere. “ What makes you happy?”

Avi gave a grin as the boy laughed with her. Especially louder as she stuck her tongue out at the prude. Though, she did raise a protest when she was told it was her fault. “ It totally wasn't! You asked me that ridiculous question! So technically its your fault for my reaction!” Avi grinned knowing she was right and there was little he could do to rebuttal her point. Hey, she was accomplishing her goal. He was definitely becoming more open. He was still far to guarded though.

“ No I never said I knew who you had your eye on. I said you had your eye on someone. And I even asked who it was!” Avi protested his statement and gave a small smirk. “Never fear though, Ill get it out of you eventually.” Avi would too. She was far to stubborn to give up this now that he had made it a battle between the two. It was just a little friendly competition after all, though, she hated to lose. “ Yes, that I do know. Even if you did just get here, you must still like at least one person In this school! You can't be friendless! I wouldn't believe it for a minute.”

Avi right out laughed again at his comment. “Thanks for the compliment.” Avi gave a small smirk and looked over at him. “ Most people see me as loud, though in that they are fairly correct in their assumptions.” Looking back over and resting back in the chair she had claimed as hers she looked at him again. “ You'll fit in soon enough.”

Odion lifted his hand, about to count the things he liked, one thing for each finger. “I like cards, alcohol, skipping class, smoking, doing drugs, having sex as much as I can...” He trailed off, his dark eyes looking over to her. Obviously he was kidding, well, the last couple he was joking about, but he had run out of things he liked without revealing too much. He couldn’t very well admit to enjoying stealing on a fine day, nor could he talk about Rhett, who he had just admitted to saying was him. That wouldn’t make any sense at all.

“I don’t control how you react love, that’s all you,” he said, glancing over to the librarian once more. If they got kicked out, it would be the first trouble he had gotten into while in Hammel. Little did he know, he would be serving multiple weeks of detention in the next couple of months. Personally he didn’t think the question was ‘ridiculous’. Ridiculous would have been asking what type of hippopotamus she rode to school every day. Odi smiled at his thoughts, glad she wasn’t a mind reader.

Odion shrugged, a small grin still on his face. He was having fun. “There’s nothing to get out of me,” he lied, still trying to convince her of his innocence. Eventually she would get tired of trying. He hadn’t even had the nerve to talk to Rhett yet, there was no way he was about to indulge the blonde girl before him, someone who obviously couldn’t keep her mouth shut. He also didn’t know her very well, and if no one wanted to date her... that said something negative about the girl, right? He sighed, running a hand through his hair. He had to admit, she was good at guessing things, maybe she had ESP or something, like his favourite blonde.

Her last comment made Odi shake his head, “I don’t want to fit in, there’s better things to do,” he said, touching her knee delicately, “like befriend the obnoxious blonde girl nobody wants to date.” The ginger smiled, a small laugh escaping his mouth. She was easy enough to flirt with, and maybe if he could convince her he wasn’t here for anyone in particular, she would drop the subject completely.

“Maybe we can hang out again some time?” he asked, not something he normally did, but he really would like to see Avi again. Odion took out his phone, thinking he was playing the part well of someone who was new to the school and looking for friends. One, he wasn’t looking for friends at all, and two, he had other things to think and worry over other than trying to appease this girl. His intention was to get her number, leave, and hopefully never run into her again. Not that she was a bad person, more so he was afraid she would get into his life too quickly.

Avi watched in amusement as Ginger raised his hand and begin to put up a finger for the things he liked and what exactly he did. She just stifled another laugh as he began to make the list crazier and crazier. “interesting list of things. What else? I know you can do better then that.” Avi knew he was holding back yet again. She would get it out of him. She was too damn persistent not to.

“You played a part in the reaction, so yes, you did have a part in mine.” Avi smiled as he glanced back over at the librarian. Since he was new here, she wouldn't get him into trouble just yet. Give it a few weeks he will be blacklisted just as she was. If not more. Avi gave a crooked grin at the thought and chuckled. Oh, if only he had an inkling he might just avoid her with the fabric of his every being. There was no way she was going to let him be alone now. She would make it so he had fun. Good clean fun that was.

“ Oh there is something to get out of you. We both know it and we both expect the other to give up on the quest to know what exactly that thing is. I have news for you. I will find out~” Avi grinned and smiled a smile sweet. “You should know by now I am stubborn and am someone who was raised since birth to be obstinate. There is no chance of you winning this it would be better if you gave up now and just told me.” Avi smiled a smile to show how sincere she was in her words. He was hiding something she would find it.

So he didn't want t fit in. Avi had known those types of people before. They were so focused on the future they couldn't see what was right in front of them. “Then don't fit in. But find someone something that you can be apart of, you can grow with.You don't want to be alone, if you did you wouldn't have put up with me.” Avi grinned and looked at him as gave her a friendly insult. “Yes yes, To befriend me is such a hassle I know.” Avi just took the quip he had about no dates into context and giggled. “ Well there is a reason for that I suppose.” Not that she was going to tell him of course.

Avi just laughed at the words out of his mouth. “ Why not, you can attempt to make me build another castle of cards again.” Avi's eyes sparkled mischievously and she smirked a bit. Taking his phone from him and inputting her number. She quickly inputted his into hers and sent a small text to make sure they both had the right numbers. When they did Avi handed the phone back to him and grinned. “You'll be hearing from me Ginger, if only to find out who exactly it is you have your eye on.” Avi smirked and quickly walked off before he could retort.

Hearing Avi say she wasn't going to give up only made Odion shrug. She wasn't going to find anything because he wasn't going to let her. He found it ironic that she was so busy trying to dig around in his life, that she wouldn't share anything with him. Maybe they weren't so different after all, everyone was entitled to their secrets, she wasn't really expecting him to be an open book was she?

After she left, he tucked his phone away and began shuffling his cards once more, just letting his mind wander. Odion always lived in the moment, it was both a blessing and a curse from being a time manipulator. On the one hand, he enjoyed life, on the other, he never really knew what to expect from it and didn't really know where it was going. It didn't bother him much, he had lived out the bulk of his life this way. There was no reason to worry when you could figure things out one day at a time.

"You're not getting anything out of me, no one is," he muttered to himself, his dark blue eyes looking down at his cards. Still, he couldn't get that small smile off his face. Had he just made a friend?
