Kane was having a hard time focusing in his class, which wasn't all that unusual. He winced as a particularly strong jolt of pain shot up his spine, grunting and laying forward in his desk. The teacher glared at him, probably thinking that he was trying to be disruptive on purpose. Honestly, he'd have liked nothing more than to be able to pay attention and stop being a disruption. He was in pain practically every moment of every day, although today was a bit different. Usually it came and went at random times, but today there was a solid stream of pain streaking down his back. He bit down on his cheek, trying to keep himself from crying out. His eyes darted over to the clock.
The pain had come and gone since the day before he was recruited into the school. It was part of the reason he was there in the first place. The pain and his increased body heat had brought him to the hospital, and they had alerted the school. As far as he knew, it didn't have anything to do with his powers. Heck, they suspected that his powers were probably something fire related because of his body temperature, but they couldn't be sure. Still, they couldn't be that far off base. What sort of powers would cause his body temp to be 5 degrees higher than the average person? Certainly wasn't an ice power. Either way, he spent an hour a day getting poked and prodded in the infirmary to make sure that the pain wasn't his spine exploding out his back or something weird like that.
His head was beginning to swim, and the pain was beginning to make it buzz. He groaned, he had to get down to the infirmary soon... he didn't really like taking any of the pain medication, but at this point he would beg them for a morphine drip. He almost didn't hear the bell ring over the buzzing in his head, and the six foot 14 year old stumbled out of the room, bumping into a couple of desks and muttering apologies when he bumped into a couple of people. As he started heading straight towards the infirmary. The pain made his legs weak, and his knees began to twitch.
He made it two hallways away, pushing through the crowd, before it started. The pain changed, rather than a steady amount... well, it felt like someone was stabbing his back in two places. He let out a scream of pain that stopped everyone in the hallway and directed everyone's attention towards him as the scream continued. He clutched his sides as his legs buckled, falling forward onto the ground. His face slammed into the ground, his nose getting bloody as he rocked back and forth. He didn't really notice, however, as the pain got more intense.
Those observing would see something looking like it was straining against the back of his shirt. Although, it wasn't all that noticeable... yet. At least not compared to the screaming six foot tall teen that was writhing in pain on the hallway floor. Most of them seemed like they were sitting there in stunned silence, staring at this... rather unusual spectacle. If he was capable of thinking anything other than "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" it probably would've been "Someone call the damn doctor!"
