Hammel Suggestion Thread

A Hammel Institute Carnival!

That's right! A carnival put together and ran by Hammel students and staff, with possible help from the community. And would allow in who ever you guys deem fit, such as Hammel Students, College Students, and Locals.

Reasons for a Carnival can include and are not limited too, A fundraiser for clubs and sports teams to help them get gear, go on trips, ect. That is the only reason I have for now.

Here is how it could be run. A sign up sheet with a list of attractions, booths, and events can be put into a thread where people in their respective clubs or sports team can sign up to run one! Such as people with cheerleading characters might pm each other and decide to run a kissing booth to help raise money for the cheerleading club. The players with characters in track might get together, or split into smaller groups, and run a thing or two for the track team, such as a house of mirrors and a dunk tank.

Sports, clubs, and teachers have first dibs on the sign up sheet, but after that other students can offer their services for random things. Like maybe a stage hand for a magic show, or a "freak show" event such as the man of steel.

Locals who own their own businesses can set up stands throughout the carnival grounds to sell their wares. Like an ice cream parlor owner might set up shop in hopes of making money for their own business. Of course a fee would be payed to the ones running the carnival.

This event could be held just about anywhere as it would just need to be a nice open space where attractions can be set up.

This would be a fun social gathering event for people to meet, further relationships they already have, have a date night with their sweet heart, and more!

I think it would be nice to have a list of majors and possibly minors available at Greenview Community College and the University of Vermont. That makes it easier for me (and my characters) to decided which of the two schools to attend (if they're attending them at all). It could be helpful for others too.

I would like to request a few additions to the charts that Tony has so wonderfully created for us to help applicants create unique characters:

~Sexuality Chart - A chart listing off the big basics of sexuality (not including gender identity, as that's part of the Characters by Gender chart)

~Relationship Graph - Even though this tends to change fairly regularly, it'd be nice to have a chart showing how many characters on-site are in a serious relationship (engaged, married, domestic partnership, stable dating relationship, etc.). This wouldn't be necessarily for students (as relationships are very fluid in younger years), but if there is a solid ship, I think it could count.

~Character Count Chart - Even though it's listed on the spreadsheet who all plays what, I think it would be nice to have an easy chart to see how many people have a certain number of characters played. How many have one, like Sean? How many have ten, like Bre? I think it would be a great resource for new players, so they don't feel pressured into playing more characters than they can handle, or conversely playing fewer characters than they want to.

I know people are going to hate me for suggesting this but I don't care...

I think the un-retiring system should be more strict... For current members. I'm quite tired of watching people retire characters, make two more new characters, and bring their retired characters back... Not to mention the fact that I have seen a few people retire characters that they have only had for a few months... Then make more characters.. I know we have the retirement system for a reason.. But I feel like people are abusing it...

Small note - maybe a way we can chose to hide the chatbox rather than just muting it? Sometimes the conversation in there gets rather uncomfortable viewing for me, and I wouldn't mind the option of being able to 'click to hide/ minimise' so I don't accidentally spot things I'd rather not while I'm forum hopping.

Regarding swearing in the cbox; it might be worthwhile looking into the way chatango lets you ban certain words. This way you can ensure certain swears are definitely omitted and replaced by stars, eliminating the moments where people slip up.

So I don't see it in the sexual orientation part in the Hammel spreadsheet and my character Dean is actually placed in a category that doesn't at all represent him, is it possible to put in a new category with all the -romantics in it? Panromantic, aromantic, biromantic, blablaromantic...

What about a body swap site event? I think something like that could be both hilarious and dramatic. It would be set up a bit like the power swap event, except instead of powers, bodies. It could potentially even be more chaotic than powerswap, if that's even possible.

Event/Writing Challenge Idea: I've seen boards that have a 'dares' thread, where players dare other players to have a certain thing happen in game. For example, I might dare Splatty to have Devon come to school sometime with his pants on backwards. Splatty, should she take the dare, would have to figure out why/how to make this happen and work it into either a current thread or a new one. For an event, I would suggest a list of volunteers and a list of dares matched randomly (and of course that the dares follow the ToS), for a challenge either a given dare or a generated list of dares to choose from would work.

Event/Writing Challenge Idea: 2033. Non-canon (or canon, if you know), what your chars are doing twenty years from now.

Event Idea: Reality Show. Randomly matched pairs or threesomes are put into reality show situations. For example, a blind date, a cook off, a race of some sort, having to room together for a day in an odd place, being put in charge of something they don't have any experience in doing, having to learn and perform an activity to a certain degree of competence in a given time, etc.

Event Idea: EVERYONE gets a gestalt. All participants are paired off. Including anyone who is already a gestalt (should they participate). Level of synch can either be randomly assigned (kind of, mostly, completely) or decided by each pair. In the event of an uneven number of participants, there is a gestalt triplet set.

Event/Writing Challenge Idea: First Class. All participants are suddenly members of Hammel's first group of students back in 1932. Strict/extensive research/adherence to history is not required, but having a cellphone... no.
