Mia was sitting in the grass next to the lake, relaxing in the heat of the sun. She was from Alaska and the heat wasn’t something she was used to. However, she still enjoyed being outside and always found the heat of the sun on her skin relaxing. She figured she would get used to the heat eventually and it wasn’t going to stop her from being outside. Unless it was unbearable to be outside in the heat, at least to her that is. She wished the Hammel School was in a state and city close to the beach. She heard about there being a lake somewhere in town. However, seeing how she hadn’t yet found the time or want to go exploring around the town she didn’t know where it was at; she also didn’t want to get lost like she has so many times on campus.
Mia brought out her notebook from her bag along with a pen and started to write her weekly letter to her mom and grandmother. She missed them dearly and hoped that one day they would be able to move here to Vermont to be closer to her. Nevertheless, the move would cost too much for her mother and she understood that. She didn’t want to lose contact with them and wanted to update them on how she was doing. Granted she could do that by phone or email but she has always been into the old fashion letters.
Half way through the letter Mia stopped and looked up at the sky as she squinted her eyes. To her it felt like every passing minute it was get hotter, she wished she had put shorts on instead of pants; next time she will have to dress more appropriate for the weather even though she didn’t really like wearing shorts. At least she was wearing a tank top that better went with the weather. She laid back onto the lush green grass and placed the back of her hands over her eyes. She breathed deeply trying to ignore the heat and focus on what else to write in this letter. She wondered if she should make it every other week instead of every week considering nothing exciting happens in the span of a week.
She laid there as she felt her notebook fall off her lap; she didn’t move to place it back on her lap or even catch it as it fell. She just laid there feeling the grateful breeze that passed every so often to cool her down a little. She took her hands off her eyes and started to cloud watch. Think of what the clouds looked like in her head.
