Mission:To meet the (boy)friend (Robbie)

Matt was on a mission. His sister had been talking about one guy for months and months. Apparently this person had been keeping her out of trouble. That just made Matt happier. With Luke around his plans to go visit had been delayed. Several times.

Luckily he had managed to lose Luke for the day, giving some excuse about grocery shopping, Luke didn't grocery shop, and had made his way up to the Hammel Campus.By now the guards knew who he was, and after signing in, had let him through. He had gone to the receptionist, who had after a reluctant period of time, given him one Robbie Wilkes room number.

He supposed it would be easy enough to get in. All he had to do was knock correct?

Matt made his way through the rooms, when to his surprise he had found himself at Dani's old dorm room. Well. He wondered if the imp was in. Giving a grin, that to others might have looked like a grimace, Matt waited patiently for the door to be opened. Hopefully by this said Robbie.

One thing Robbie had always prided in was the fact that he never suffered a study group hangover. While everyone mugged for their finals, Robbie was happily playing video games, watching movies, spending the night with his flavour of the week and life had been pretty much awesome.

But recent events had changed the blonde weather manipulator in ways he hadn't imagined since he left boarding school. For practically half a year [possibly more, his math was still a little rusty] he had been a one woman's man and the past few months had been spent completely ignoring his TV while burying his head in books.

Suffice it to say, the groaning coming from under the sheets that afternoon while the door was being knocked was a Robbie Wilkes suffering from major study group hangover.

Dragging his bare feet across the the dorm room to the door, it took him a few tries before he finally unlocked the door and let it swing open. Bleary eyed and mussed up hair, he greeted the knocker with a half raised hand before turning and walking in the direction of the nearest flat surface to try and get some more shut eye.

Little did he know that this was probably the worst first impression to give the brother of the girl he had been happily and willingly seeing for the past months.

Matt waited outside and thought of what Dani had told him about the person who, had become her best friend so far. From her description he had blond hair and in her words. "A fluffy puppy". He was anxious to see how "fluffy puppy" translated into human terms.

Really it was starting to get riduculous how much his sister was talking about puppy, which was what Robbie had been named in his head. Not like he was going to tell anyone. Grinning he knew that Dani would probabyl hit him, hard, if she knew he was doing this.


She had been keeping out of trouble since she had been hanging with the puppy, so for that Matt was grateful. He was somewhat worried what would happen if the two ever had a falling out. It would probably call for another night of ice cream, The Princess Bride, and Theodore.

He did not want that to happen. Thus why he would try to go everything against that.He was surprised when the door was answered by someone who looked like Luke did perpetually. Like he was lacking sleep and just wanted to. Luckily the younger teen was dressed. Half the time Luke wasn't. At the thought Matt mentally face-palmed and went into the room looking around.

Maybe the sleepy person was Puppy. That would make sense. Following him Matt stopped him from going to far by poutting his hand on his shoulder, passing the notebook over.

The last thing Robbie wanted to do while deprived of sleep was read so when he was stopped mid-fall to the floor to read a notebook, Robbie groaned one more time before rubbing his eyes sleepily and grabbing hold of the book before slumping down to the floor on his butt.

He blinked at the page as the letters swam in front of his eyes. "Stop moving," he demanded as he tried to adjust his eyesight. Once that was done, he could make out his name and the question that came before it.

"Are you Robbie Wilkes?" He sounded out before looking up in confusion. "How the hell am I supposed to know? Why you asking who you are?" He slurred before clearing his throat and reading the book once more.

It took him about five minutes to realise that the question was directed at him and he looked back up at the dark haired boy and raised a thumb up. "Yes. Thas me." He said, pointing to himself a couple of times. "Who you?"

Oh gosh the puppy was drunk. From the description that Dani had given him, Matt had a sinking suspicion that this was Robert. That this was the puppy. Sighing he looked down tot he floor, since he now towered over the poor boy.

Matt really didn't know who the blonde was talking too. It was quite unnerving though. Matt was half tempted to tell the boy outright that he wasn't moving. In fact, no one was moving. Only he was moving.

Matt raised one eyebrow was he was questioned, quite aggravatingly by the blond. Well he wasn't the angel that Dani had made him out to be. Matt's once smiling mouth had made its way into a frown.

It seemed to take the boy a while before he realized the question was directed towards him. Sighing Matt figured it was easier to say his name then write it. The boy had his notebook hostage. "Matthew Waylan." A gruff voice, that might have sent shivers down the lesser man. He wasn't doing it on purpose. That was just his voice.

Robbie wouldn't be surprised if he was actually drunk because the headache he was experiencing was akin to that of what he usually had when he snuck into dive bars that believed he was not a minor.

Still unaware that he was facing possibly the most important person he should be bending over backwards impressing, Robbie rubbed his face tiredly, trying to find feeling in it.

The voice that came after Robbie's question surprised him only because of the state he was currently in. But a few seconds of thought process told him that it was familiar. Not the voice but the way the voice sounded. He'd heard Jonah speak a few times and they sounded eerily alike. All gruff and somewhat disconnected.

Frowning when he realised the boy had mentioned that his last name was Waylan, all Robbie thought of it was that it was a coincidence that his girlfriend and this...man had the same name.

It was much too early for him to think but his hand was quick to move to acknowledge the fact that Matthew Waylan was deaf.

Hey, I'm Robbie Wilkes, good to meet you. It was the easiest thing to sign and he knew that by heart so headache or not, he could do it flawlessly. The next part would be hard. He stumbled over the gesture for "looking for" but he more or less made it clear.

Maybe.

He looked up at Matthew expectantly, waiting for him to sign back.

What was this? The puppy was doing something or another with his hands. Trying to concentrate Matt had absolutley no idea what was going on, nor how to help/stop it.

Maybe he still thought he was dreaming? He looked like he had just woken up. The way he was rubbing his face might be it. Matt looked to the puppy and shook his head only slightly. This wasn't the best way to meet.

Really though, who did such a thing. Matt's judgement of the puppy was getting worse. He didn't know what to think of him right at this moment. Dani had mentioned that the puppy was graduating. Matt wondered what he would do if he acted like this.

Quite frankly Matt did not think he would get very far. It was almost as if he was just waking up. You couldn't just wake up every day of every day. That was just wrong.

How would you live your life then? In a haze? That was no reason to live your life. nor any way to. Matt looked down at the boy and shook his head grinning. Oh! He thought he was deaf.

This was semi amusing. Shaking his head with a smal chuckle Matt gave a grin, and looked towards the puppy. "I am not deaf." There it was again. That horrible voice. "I just do not like to talk. It is... tiring."

Hopefully that would get the situation across.

Picking up his notebook Matt began to write some things down in it, before he handed it back to Robbie.

As I have said before my name is Matthew Waylan. I do not like to talk, it is tiring, conversing by notebook is much easier. If you are a Robert Wilkes I have come to... Well quite frankly I have come to meet you. My sister talks about you often.

Matt smiled and motioned to the notebook. This young man was amusing.

Matt's empty gaze was met with Robbie's frown. What was wrong with him? Was Robbie signing wrongly? He couldn't have. He'd spent three years perfecting his sign language. Sure he got somethings wrong but mostly Jonah never said anythign against his signing. So...what was wrong with this one?

But when he started grinning, Robbie's frown turned into a look of confusion. The revelation came crashing down on Robbie and he felt horrible. "Oh...oh...I'm sorry." He grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly and waited as the other boy wrote in his notebook.

He looked down at the notebook and the frowned deepened even further. Sister? Oh no...is Matt one of Robbie's conquests' brother? Was he going to get pummelled?? Wait...Waylan.

Oh.

My.

God.

"Oh shit...uh...um...err...you want soda? I'll get you a soda. Okay soda." Robbie scrambled up to go to the fridge, suddenly all his lethargy gone in a split second. Oh this was bad. This was really, really bad.

As he took out two bottles of soda, Robbie tried to calm himself down and think. This wasn't bad. No...Matt seemed levelheaded enough. He grinned, that's a good thing. So, Robbie needed to play it cool. This was going to be fine.

"So...you've come to see me...you've seen me...um...what can I do for you?"

Did he not understand that he could understand him? Matt gave a small chuckle at that. Wow, this boy obviously had not had enough coffee this day. Grinning he looked over the boy. He wasn't a bad person, at least not from what Dani had said, and that took a lot for Dani to say about a person. Normally Dani could find a million things wrong with a person.

When he apologized Matt just shook his head. He had been thought of as a deaf mute before, but he wasn't. He just hated talking. When he had something to say, he would say it. that is all there is too it. Matt was a man of few words, it really was better to listen than to speak. Besides, it added to his frankenstein giant appearance when he remained eeirly calm. Whoever said Matt was nice was wrong.

Matt watched wondering what was wrong with the puppy. his face went from confused to horror in a matter of seconds. Mat hadn't done anything had he? If he had Dani was most likely going to kill him.

He really didn't want that.

Grinning Matt shook his head. He didn't want a soda, nor did he need one. Why was he swearing anyway? Did Dani say that many bad things about him? Matt honestly didn't know. He would be sad though if Dani had.

Matt watched as the puppy went to get the sodas, regardless of his head shake. In the confusion the puppy probably hadn't even realised he had declined his invitation. Oh well. It was interesting to watch him run around.

At the question Matt gave a smile and began to write in his notebook.

Mostly I just wanted to thank you for taking care of my sister. I know she can be hard to take care of sometimes, and i appreciate the fact that you haven't gotten fed up with her. Ever since she was little she has had trouble making friends, so, I guess I just wanted to say thank you, Oh! and apologize for any pranks she might have pulled, I promise that is a sign of affection when she pulls them on her friends.

Matt passed the notebook over with a small smile waiting for him to read it.

The notebook passed to him held what seemed to be a note of appreciation. For being a good...friend? Dani hadn't told her brother about Robbie being her boyfriend. Robbie didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. But for now, the blonde was sober enough to realise that if he said anything damaging, like say, how much he enjoyed making out with his supposed 'just friend', he would have a very hard time wiping himself off the walls.

Okay so maybe he was exaggerating. Not every brother in real life reacted the same way as the ones in the movies with their shotguns and their punches of doom.

Maybe.

Robbie should just keep it cool and not reveal anything. Yet.

As he read the note, a small smile lifted the corners of his lips at the content before giving it back to Matt. So the guy thought everything between Robbie and Dani were innocent. In a way, it was innocent. Sure, it wasn't the 'holding hands, run around a buttercup field' kind of innocence but they haven't done it yet and as far as he was concerned, what they had wasinnocent.

"Um...no problem. Glad to be -- taking care of your sister. She's easy to take care of. And no problem about the pranks. I think I've pulled enough on her to even out the score." Robbie laughed. "You sure you don't want a soda?" He held up the second bottle with a smile. He was slowly inching back into the charmer he used to be. Glad that this was a very scandal-free visit, Robbie leaned against the kitchen countertop and drank from his bottle.

"Your sister's a great kid, you know that right?"

It was what it was. For Matt people all were who they were. Dani was just a pranking pixie and that was all there was to it. Matt was the protector. Ever since the melancholy childhood play games of make believe that is always what he would be assigned. It wasn't that different from real it to tell the truth. People were people but family was family. There was and always would be a difference.

Dani was Matt's most important person right now. He regarded her as a treasure and she was incredibly spoiled. Matt knew that she was more his little sister then his adopted little sister. Who cares that he was adopted. Matt certainly thought of the Waylans as family.

Truth.

Matt would do anything for his little sister.

Matt watched as he read the note. At least he wasn't looking disgusted. That would have been bad. If Dani ever found out about this meeting Matt would be in the dog pen. That was putting it lightly. If he had done something to the puppy? Well that would be ten times worse. Not matter who or what had actually happened. At least she would still have the puppy.

At his words Matt gave a grin and nodded. The fact that he had bough balls to pull a prank on his little sister made him laugh. For some reason he liked him already, even if he was a bit drunk before. Matt never got away with pulling pranks. They would always come back at him ten times worse. Shaking his head at the soda invite Matt gave a grin and made it clear he meant no. He didn't need it, nor want it, but it was polite of the puppy to ask.

Matt smiled a little smile at the words. He knew his sister was a good kid, but not many other people did. Nodding he tilted his head only the slightest and passed the notebook back over.

Yes I know that, it is just that not many other people seem to. Which is why her having friends makes it all the better. She's fragile though, I'm just glad there is someone around to take care of her when I'm not here.

The note back made Robbie's smile falter a little but the blond caught himself before Matt could actually notice. "Nah, she's strong." He shrugged. Frankly, Robbie was afraid of that commitment. He wasn't necessarily afraid of being with Dani because that was the best thing that was happening to him right now. But to now know that her brother was putting a lot of hope in him...it was ridiculously scary.

"So thanks for dropping by. Sorry about earlier." He grinned sheepishly, running his fingers through his hair, ruffling it a little. "Had a rough night last night. Finals are a killer, lemme tell you that." Robbie grinned lop-sidedly.

"Um...how did you know where to find me?" The blond asked, knowing that Dani couldn't have told Matt they roomed together. Or used to anyway.

Matt kept a watchful eye on the blond as he read the note. But his sister wasn't strong. Oh she would like everyone else to believe so, but it wasn't true Honest to god she was fragile. She was the most important thing in his life, but hey, the fact that she had friends was a good thing. He worried about her. That of course wasn't a good thing. Worrying was not a good thing.

Oh so it was finals? Matt's opinion of the boy rose tremendously. Good, that meant he was studying. That meant he wasn't drunk. And that meant he was safe for his sister to be around. Matt just nodded with a smile. It was all right.

Matt pushed the notebook over with his answer. The Receptionist. I come here often enough they know me. It was true too. He barely needed anyone to look at him and they knew who he was. He still couldn't believe he was graduating. It almost seemed surreal.

Robbie nodded at the note and smiled at Matt. "You visit your sister a lot then." He stated.

Matt had not answered his question about soda so Robbie let the bottle condense on the coffee table. He was fairly certain this visit was coming to an end. Unless Matt had other questions. Did Matt have other questions? Robbie really wasn't good at entertaining people unless they were already willing to come to bed with him.

He was fairly certain Matt was not going to go to bed with him.

And he was also fairly certain he didn't want Matt to go to bed with him.

He had Dani.

"Uh...I don't mean to chase you out but...is there anything else you need to screen me for?" He grinned, letting Matt know he meant no offense with his comment.

Matt simply nodded at the statement. He came here as often as he could, namely to help with homework. Not to mention just make sure she wasn't getting into trouble. She had a tendency to do that and he was trying to shake her of that habit.

This whole purpose of this visit was to go and to see the this person who was so directly involved in his sister's life. Really he was just being the big brother, but still. He needed to make sure that it was ok. That she was ok. There were times he wouldn't be here. That made him worry. She made him worry.

Luckily this meeting had given Matt a hopeful outlook. Now at least he knew that Dani would have a friend.

More specifically a friend where he wouldn't have to worry about his sister with.

Because that... that would be unfortunate.

Matt gave a quick grin at the boy as he shook his head passing the notebook over one last time. Not really. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't a figment of imagination like I thought you were at first. But hey, it was nice meeting you. I'm sure I'll see you around some time.

Once Robbie had finished reading the note Matt went off with a wave. This had been a very successful trip. At least in his book. Now just to make sure Dani didn't find out.
