An Unlisted Power and Some Dumb Questions

Hello!
My name is Kelly and I'm extremely interested in writing with you all. Truth be told, though, I've never role played in an Internet forum before. Please excuse my ignorance and the rambling that follows:
1. The character I've been steadily working on has a power that I call Mind Borrowing, which is ostensibly some strange extension of Astral Projection but is truly its own beast. It is, in fact, a power that I borrowed myself (from the Discworld Tabletop RPG) and modified heavily to suit a single character/role play setting. Basically, my character (Amos hereafter) is able to enter a very abrupt sleep-like state and share, or "borrow", the mind of another creature.
There is no actual mind control involved; Amos's mind simply snuggles up with the other mind and is able to see the world through said mind's eyes. He can detect their surface emotions and instinctual urges, but not any complete, decipherable thoughts; i.e., there is no standard "communication" involved, as in telepathy, but the minds are aware of each other and share vague notions of Wants and Immediate Fears and Things.
Theoretically, any conscious animal (including a human) could be the target of this power. In practice, however, human minds are incredibly complex and self-aware and do not allow other minds into their jurisdiction willy-nilly, which ends in him being forcefully ejected back into his own flesh. The more self-aware the animal, the more difficult (or practically impossible) the borrowing becomes.
While this is going on, Amos's body is completely unresponsive to outside stimuli, and is thus completely vulnerable to being drawn on with marker, randomly declothed, abducted, thrown off of a cliff, what have you. His mind, obviously being elsewhere, has no idea of what is happening inside or outside of his body unless he can physically see it from the mind he is borrowing. This state is more of a hibernation than actual sleep; his body temperature drops and his heart rate slows. It is also not inherently restful, and any time he spends outside of himself will need to be made up later, eventually, in actual proper sleep.
He's often fatigued in his day-to-day life as a result, and also has chronic sinus trouble from sudden changes in body temperature (lots of sniffling goes on as you might imagine). After the fact, he might have some residual animal urges which vary in severity depending on the duration of the borrowing.
Just for clarity, by "varies in severity" I mean the spectrum goes from "I feel a bit naked without feathers on" to "I'm going to attempt to fly down these stairs." If he were to remain in an animal mind indefinitely (due to death of his own body or some other unforeseen circumstance) his consciousness would eventually be assimilated into that of the animal and he would live out the remainder of his days as... well, as a whatever.
So that's more or less the extent of what I had in mind. Please let me know if you have any concerns or suggestions for minor tweaks that might make him more suitable for your environment. I'll apply only after your input. Also, my apologies in advance for bringing another male into your already sausage-crowded fold; if all goes well, I will happily add some females to my repertoire.
2. I've combed through the Joining Guide, Rules, Plot, FAQ, and most of the in-character sections (as well as some out-of-character), but I can't for the life of me find a comprehensive description of the setting. I feel as though I'm missing something very obvious. Does such a thing exist (a collection of pictures or descriptions of the campus, of Pilot Ridge, etc.)? Amos is going to be an older student (preferably around the minimum graduating age, with a little growing of the emotional sort left to do) and it is assumed he would be familiar with the setting, so I'd appreciate any details you can provide.
I think that's mostly all. As I said before, I really look forward to participating and getting to know you all. Thanks for your time.
