General Appearance: Gloria has light, rosy, skin and wears her auburn hair in wavy layers down to the middle of her back. Her eyebrows are dark and heavy, but shaped neatly. She has thin lips and an uneven, gummy smile. Gloria favors bright red lipstick and black eyeliner to complete her "look." She is not "prom queen" pretty, but she does the best she can with her features to make herself attractive and unique.
Personality: Gloria likes to see the best in people and finds it easy to approach strangers. She keeps an open mind in the presence of unfamiliar company and believes that people are as truthful as she is. She believes in second chances and is quick to forgive. On the flipside, Gloria is not a doormat. It is difficult for her to forget when she's been hurt. The young woman can hold a mean grudge for a very long time.
Gloria loves a good joke and cannot help but make humorous observations about her surroundings. Her sense of humor is self-deprecating because she would hate to hurt another's feelings. She believes the best way to avoid making enemies is by beating-up yourself before they get the chance to try.
Moodiness is Gloria's worst trait. She is normally even-tempered and mellow with a little smile on her face wherever she goes. However, Gloria has a terrible habit of suppressing and ignoring her negative emotions to the point where they manifest as crippling anxiety and short bouts of depression.

History
Norman and Patricia met in a biology class at the local university. He was exceptionally bright, often arguing with the professor long after the class had been dismissed. Patty, artistic and introverted, admired her classmate's outspoken nature but found his intellect intimidating. Norman thought the bashful red-haired girl was unique and pretty. They started hanging out together after class, chatting about music and their favorite television shows. Their brief conversations led to long phone calls that ran late into the night.
Mr. and Mrs. Farr were comfortably settled into their careers before the birth of Gloria, their first child and only daughter. Gloria was her mother's daughter in every way: calm, disarming, and peaceful. She had plenty of friends as a young child. There was a sleepover to go to every other weekend, play dates at the fun park, and pizza parties.
It was a summer night when Gloria learned that she was different. Her mother said that Gloria and her friends could play outside as long as the sun was out. The friends were having too much fun with their "water guns versus water balloons" war to want it to end too soon. As they laughed and chased each other around the yard, the sun seemed to shine brighter around them. Patricia noticed it was almost 9:00PM and Gloria and her friends hadn't come back inside. She threw open the front door, ready to scold Gloria for disobeying her. Although darkness and starry skies surrounded Patricia, Gloria and her friends sat around sipping lemonade in a circle of light.
Patty couldn't believe her eyes, but she didn't want to alarm her daughter, either. She called the group of friends inside, insisting they watch the movie she rented for them. Gloria protested, insisting it wasn't dark enough for a scary movie to be enjoyable. Patty rolled her eyes and told Gloria they could achieve the spooky effect they wanted by turning off all the lights in the living room. Gloria grudgingly agreed and as she passed her mother to get into the house the lights in the entry way dimmed, the living room went black. Patty thought there was a power black out and had Norman drive the girls home.
The girls' parents assumed that the Farrs were facing foreclosure and couldn't afford to pay their electric bill even after Norman explained the odd blackout to them. They didn't want their daughters spending time with a girl who would use them for their nice possessions and big homes. Suddenly, the kids stopped calling and the party invitations never arrived. The middle school girls ran around in cliques, but Gloria never joined one. She made friends with the kids who were most like her, soft spoken social outcasts. Gloria was the bright and bubbly leader of their pack.
Grainy photographs of the patch of light in the night sky made their rounds on the Internet, mostly dismissed as clever Photoshopping. A recruit from Hammel Institute decided to investigate the source of the images further. She was less than surprised when the evidence pointed to thirteen-year-old Gloria Farr. Norman and Patty were thrilled when the Hammel recruiter made known her suspicions that Gloria might be exceptionally gifted. Gloria couldn't wait to be tested, being different seemed exciting.
When the results of the test indicated that Gloria could manipulate light and darkness everything started to make sense, particularly the light sensitivity Gloria had begun to experience. (Patty assumed it was an unfortunate symptom of PMS and stocked up on different pain relievers.) She finished the eighth grade at her home middle school and shipped off to Hammel Institute for her freshman year.
All of the new people with interesting abilities fascinated Gloria. She turned into a social butterfly, spending time with different groups of friends as often as she could. Gloria's closest friends would give her their old sun glasses to help her with the various degrees of light sensitivity she came to suffer on a daily basis. When she wasn't socializing Gloria liked to practice using her light and darkness manipulation skills, sometimes spending hours in her dorm room with nothing but lamps, flashlights, and a window to keep her occupied.
Roleplay Example
Alaric half-smiled at his date as she joked at his expense and made light of her discomfort. Maeve Holbrook, the girl from Gryffindor who could best boys twice her size at Quidditch, had transformed into arm candy for the evening. In their school days a young Alaric Addams never would have pictured the cute athlete in a form-fitting, emerald-colored dress with a neckline that plunged past her navel. She carried off the look like someone who had done it all of her life.
Never the one to be out-dressed, even by the ladies, Alaric arrived at Club Phoenix in something he claimed he found at the bottom of his closet. Alaric wore a plaid suit in taupe with a lavender dress shirt and an orange checkered tie. His feet, covered in argyle socks, were slipped into chocolate brown dragon skin shoes by some up-and-coming Italian designer who made them custom for Alaric. When you were a wizard who was this well-dressed, it was any wonder that he could devote even a moment of attention to his date, but Maeve was too much fun (and just too gorgeous!) to ignore.
"She's allowed one guest in the V.I.P. room," Alaric began his complaint dryly. "And Wendy takes her husband of all people! Excuse me if the main dance floor is too plebeian." He freed his arm from Maeve's grip and wrapped it around her waist. "Let's have a dance, Maevie. And if you're any good at it, I might permit you to spend a couple of galleons on a cold drink for me.
