So this is totally pointless and useless, but that's the best sort of fun, right? So basically, I've been working on this fantasy novel for about a year now, and I've considered throwing some Hammel-ish characters in just for the heck of it. This thread is just for fun though, to see which race your characters would probably be from my novel. There are seven in all, each from a different island and different culture, and each have certain physical and psychological characteristics specific to their race:
Vensveho (Wind Riders):
These people from from the island of Aermoor, which is made entirely of steep mountains, plateaus, and valleys. The people of Aermoor have wings to help them traverse this mountainous terrain, as well as long, nimble appendages, partially hollow bones, and especially strong finger- and toe-nails. They come in all skin and hair tones, though a majority are tan-skinned and dark-haired (think Native American). They are somewhat advanced culturally, living in small to large cities build on man-made platforms usually on the top of plateaus. They are, as all the cultures in my novel, a sort of medieval-fantasy culture, with many unique foods, traditions, and animals indigenous to Aermoor. Most Vensveho are easy-going, humorous, and always looking to have fun; often they are so easy-going and trusting that they become lazy and irresponsible. They are thirsty for knowledge and have many vast libraries throughout the island dedicated to this pursuit. Most Vensveho are merchants or artisans. Ravyn is a Vensveho.
Incenpresul (Fire Dancers):
Incenpresul come from the island of Ember Plains, consisting mainly of active volcanoes and heat in general. They are all immune to heat and fire to some degree, varying in intensity from person to person. Almost all Incenpresul are red-haired and deeply tanned, although some have black hair as well, along with amber-colored eyes. They live in small cities and towns. They are, in general, very intense people, ranging from extreme joy to extreme rage, most often the latter; they all have nasty tempers. They are known for their forges and metalwork, producing items no other race has the heat tolerance to create. Most of them are smiths or miners.
Undanhelo (Water Breathers):
The Undanhelo live on the island (or rather, group of islands) Coral Meadows, spending most of their time in the many rivers, lakes, and oceansides around the land. They have gills, webbed hands and feet, and are able to breathe underwater, but can also survive on land for hours at a time. Most of their cities are completely underwater. Their skin is pale and sometimes green- or blue-hued, with dark brown or black hair and pale gray or blue eyes. Personality-wise, they are much like the Vensveho - very playful and thrill-seeking, but also environmentally-conscious and protective of their land and waters. They have close ties to water and sea creatures, and are also apt to keep secrets. They are generally fishers, farmers (sea-farmers), or something similar.
Nemuandur (Tree Singers):
The Nemuandur live on the forest-blanketed island of Evergrove. Nearly all of them are ebony-skinned and dark-haired, but a rare birch Nemuandur will have skin as white as snow and silver hair. Their skin can range from smooth to rough and scratchy to the touch, much like the trees they adore. By singing, they can make plants grow faster and stronger than usual, and are known for their fruits and vegetables they grow wild in the woods. They have cities throughout the woods, but many choose to wander on their own and don't consider anyplace 'home'. Most Nemuandur are soft-spoken and shy, enjoying solitary time more than large gatherings. Most are farmers, travelers, or herbalists.
Solicurso (Desert Runners):
The Solicurso live on the island of Shifting Sands, a vast desert with the occasional oasis or river. Life on this island is hard, and the Solicurso are very heat-resistant and can go for long periods of time without water; they are also very swift-footed and agile, and can dig very well into the sand. They are tan-skinned in general, with varying hair and eye colors. Many are what people would call "ruggedly handsome". Most Solicurso are independent and self-sustainable, but they can also travel in small groups and have many small cities spread along the few bodies of water on the island. They tend to be quick-witted and cunning, often resorting to thievery to get what they want. Most Solicurso are travelers, vagabonds, thieves, and merchants.
Limunredo (Mud Walkers):
The Limunredo are sort of the joke of the races. Coming from the island of Silvergrass Mire, which is basically one huge swamp, these people are... Well, quite amphibian-like. Pale, slightly slimy skin, long, messy hair (often dreadlocks), wide-mouthed... You get the picture. They can hold their breath for long periods of time to search for food in ponds and mud puddles, and have wide, long-fingered hands and slightly prehensile tongues. They are, in general, slow-witted and dim, speaking only when directly spoken to and even then taking a while to think of an answer. They are, however, very adaptable and can eat just about anything, and are quite hard to kill. Most live on their own and don't interact with each other, choosing to live and die on their own. They are the most primitive of the seven races, but they are a peaceful race.
Specvaritus (Cave Divers):
The Specvaritus come from an island known simply as The Abyss. Spending nearly all of their time in the multitude of caves, tunnels, and caverns spread throughout the island's underground, they are white-skinned and pale-haired, and are occasionally even blind from lack of using their eyesight. They can 'see' by echolocation, can survive on very little oxygen and are able to climb and squeeze through all sorts of cracks and crevices. Being in the dark for so long has warped the minds of most of these people, and they are mostly dark and untrustworthy, willing to kill their own family over something that they want. They live in small packs or on their own, and survive off of the many strange creatures and plants that live in the caves.
That's the seven races in a nutshell! Just respond to this thread saying which race your characters (or you!) would belong to, and why ^___^ I appreciate the brainstorming and general entertainment!
Personally, I think I would be a Vensveho. I think I would fit in with them, and I just want to be able to fly D:
