Sunshine danced across Alexis’ bed through the flowing curtains, carrying in fresh air from the beautiful day outside. She shimmied into her shorts and stepped into her sandals scanning the room for her elusive key. Alexis had the terrible habit of throwing her room key down without much thought, then in turn leaving her searching for it later on. In the corner of her eye a ray of sunlight caught on the metallic surface causing it to twinkle on her desk beneath a mangled mess of headphone wires. With a sigh of relief she swiped it up, accidently jarring Kalia’s cage with her elbow. “Sorry baby girl,” she cooed to the startled ferret. Alexis reached for the bag of treats on her desk and offered one to Kalia as an apology, whom took it happily. Content with the blissful pet she made her way out of the dorm room and toward the training field.
The sky was bright blue, dotted with a few fluffy white clouds. It really was the ideal day to spend outside. When Alexis reached the training field she wasn’t surprised by the groups of students that occupied various spots engaged in each other. Who would pass up such nice weather. Besides it gave Lexi an excellent chance to perfect her new technique. After finding a decent stretch that had more than enough room for her to work comfortably, Alexis kicked aside her sandals and set her feet into the cool grass. She noticed that through her kinetic grip to the earth beneath her she could sense vibrations of whoever was around. She twisted her feet back and forth, causing the grass and dirt to sink slightly allowing for an impression of her feet. Controlling earth was so easy now compared to her first years at Hammel. Now some things barely even required her thought. It came with a lot of practice.
Alexis closed her eyes and left it to the ground to see for her. She could feel almost everyone on the grass. The kids roughhousing in the corner, whoms vibrations were the strongest of all, the ones just idly standing around shifting their weight now and then, the ones who were laying around. She took a peek around to see how accurate she was having misread a couple of signals. Lexi was still very happy with how well this was coming along and a grin tugged at her lips. Alexis had been so focused on the people in front of her that she was started by the presence of someone behind her, noted by the sudden change under her soles. Jumping with a sharp intake of breath she twisted to see the girl, who was sharing the free section of field. She placed a hand on her heart and let her breathing become rhythmic again. “You scared me,” she laughed. Maybe she wasn’t as good at this whole vibration bit as she thought.
