Six Feet Under The Sun (Mia)

Mia wanted to say sorry, but if she did that than he would probably connect the dots and realize she was the one doing it. “Yeah I hope so too. I’ve come quite found of the sun light.” She said with a smile, that would do for now. She wasn’t lying to him, just not telling him the truth.

“Yeah, I plan on talking to her about it. I’m not the kind of person who ignores my friends feelings.” Nor was she the type to be selfish, if her dating Cameron was making Ravyn upset or sad or negatively effecting her than she would stop dating him; Ravyn’s happiness came first. All her friend’s happiness came first. She felt a little torn because Cameron was also her friend. But she wasn’t really sure how much she meant to him. Noah and Mia both played a part in Ravyn’s and Cameron’s drama, that was something they had in common.

Mia smiled “good for her.” She couldn’t help but wonder, if Ravyn was already with someone else, why was she sad when she saw Mia with Cameron at the dance? “I see. Well then. The question is, do you want to be more than friends with her?” it was a possibility and if in some twisted way Ravyn was into Noah, Mia wouldn’t go there with Noah. Not to mention there was still Cameron. “eh, I don’t know… Maybe she talks about it with you because she has no one else? Oh or because she thinks you’re not interested in her? Ravyn’s mind seems very complicated...” Even more complicated than her’s and that was saying something. She didn't want to give him false hope either, just trying to explore some options.

Mia grinned “Well you are spending time with me right now… So I guess you now know that I can be extremely moody… Not sure if you will be able to put that in a song though..” She blushed a little “How many songs and what kind? Should I be worried?”

"I think she feels the same way." Noah replied, trying to think back on a few of the things that Ravyn had said. It really would be good for the two of them to talk it out, especially if there were any ill feelings about it. "You seem like a really good friend. I know a lot of people who wouldn't care. I admire that about you, Mia." He said honestly. He really did think she was a good person, even if they'd only spent a little time together; he could tell it was true.

Her question had thrown him a little, but he would do his best to answer it. "Ravyn's a friend. That's all we're ever going to be, and I'm happy with that." Which was true. Noah wasn't one to normally lie about things, especially little things like that. And he really did want to make sure that he and Ravyn were going to be friends, because he couldn't really imagine losing her friendship.

"Ahh, everyone has their moodier days. It's not something I'm going to hold against you." Noah gave her another smile. Whatever had happened just when he first saw her had happened, but it was over now. She seemed sorry about it and he could accept that. "I'm not sure how many. I get inspiration about stuff and I just go with it. If that makes sense..." He wasn't sure if it did or not.

But he at least wanted to offer an example. "Like..." He swung his guitar around again, holding it steady while he double checked that the old thing was still in tune. "She don't lie in bed at night, staring at the ceiling. She don't wait to begin." He liked the song, it had an upbeat strumming pattern that was fun to play. And who knew? He might be able to cheer her up; "She bets on long shots. She wants what they've got; she skates where the ice thins.." He looked over at her, unable to stop himself from grinning like a total dork. The energy of the song just reminded him of when they first met.

"On and on, we keep going, crowded like subway cars. On and on, to the beat of our noisy hearts." He stopped singing then, playing along to the thought as he watched her for her reaction. In fact, Noah couldn't help but laugh at how lame he must have looked to her. "Yes, I'm this embarrassing to hang out with all the time."

“Yeah, I’ll try to get in touch with her…” they really did need to talk this out because she wasn’t going to lose a friend over a guy. She smiled a little “I’m not your average person.” She scratched the back of her head.

“I see. But that really didn’t answer my question.. But that’s alright.” She nudged him slightly; she wasn’t sure if she was happy to hear that or not. But that was his answer, she was more concerned with Ravyn’s answer now. She already kind of stole one guy from her, she wasn’t about to do it again. Not to mention, if Noah was interested, would he be able to keep up? There was so much more to Mia than just dating her; it would never be just dating when it came to the girl. She was too complicated for that. Not to mention there were a lot of other complications and she didn’t want to lead Noah on; it wouldn’t be fair to him. She also just wasn't that type of person.

Mia smiled, glad he wasn’t taking it to heart; or at least seem to take it to heart. Noah was fun to be around, and she was glad he hadn’t taken what she said personally. Because truth be told, she did it a lot; it was how she kept people from getting close to her. She didn’t like people getting too close; yet some people had been able to. “Oh? Well that makes sense.”

Mia started blushing when he started signing. It was nice; she was liking the song. She didn’t know it but she still liked it. She looked up at the sky and watched as the clouds started to disappear. She couldn’t stop smiling at him as he sang. He was a pretty good singer; she would give him that. He still had to prove he was a good songwriter though. She grinned along with him, she didn’t mind his dorkyness one bit. Mia laughed along with him “Oh it’s totally fine. You make being embarrassing fun anyways.” She winked at him; oh yes she was feeling much better about the whole thing.

Noah sighed briefly at her response. He did answer her question; the answer was there, but she must have wanted it straight up. He didn't really know why, but he could comply either way. "No, I don't want to." And in truth, he didn't. He wanted to be her friend, and she wanted to be with Lucah. And he wanted her to be happy.

"I'm glad you're okay with it. I could do this all day. It's just a lot of fun for me." Noah said. It was such a big part of who he was, and it was hardly something he could turn off. "I have to admit, I was pretty glad I met you. I don't know too many people at Hammel who are big into music. It's pretty awesome to be friends with someone who writes songs and stuff." He leaned over and nudged her lightly with his arm then, unable to stop smiling. "We are friends, right?"

He looked up then to finally notice the clouds disappearing. "Hey look, the sun's completely out again."

In Mia’s mind he really hadn’t, he said he was happy being just friend but didn’t say he wanted to be just friends. Mia knew there was a difference, because she had been happy being just friends with her first ever boyfriend but she didn’t want to just be friends. Then he answered her “Ah. Okay. Well that’s cool.” She smiled, just because a girl and a guy were friends didn’t mean anything was going to happen between them further than that.

Mia laughed a little “If I knew the song I would have joined you. I love singing.” She didn’t mind randomly singing in public, but she never really did. She guessed she never felt the need to. She smiled “Music is a big part of my life, it has helped me in so many ways.” You wouldn’t think music could help you in life, but it could and Mia was grateful for it. “Of course we are! I wouldn’t want it any other way!” She liked Noah, he was fun to be around.

Mia looked up again and smiled, of course it was out; she was happy. “Oh yeah your right.. Strange weather.” She will tell him about it eventually. Right now she was enjoying the fact that a least one person didn’t know about her power.

"When inspiration hits you, you let me know. I know a lot of songs, so I'm sure we'd eventually find something in common." Noah replied. His interest in music was pretty broad, ranging through the era's. Though when it came to singing about other people, he normally gravitated to newer tracks. The likelihood of people knowing those songs was a lot easier.

But he had a spot in his heart for older ballads at the same time. "I was surprised by how much music does for people. It's not just stuff that you listen to. As lame as this might sound, it's a great way to express yourself; whether you write the music or not."

“Hmm what types of bands do you most listen to?” Another way to find something they both knew. Ask questions, see what came up. Mia’s music taste pretty much stayed in the 21st century. Ranging from hard rock, to country; she never stayed in one music genre, she liked them all. But she liked hard rock the most, mostly because a lot of the songs she could relate to.

“It is a great way to express yourself, it brings people together and there’s always a reason why someone likes a song. It’s a great conversation started that’s for sure. I love it.” She grinned, music was her life and she would marry it if she could. It was the only constant thing in her life, the only thing that stayed the same and the only thing that never left her; it meant everything to her. “And Music just doesn’t simply go away, it’s always there.”

Noah took a little time to think about it. It was so hard to pin down exactly what he liked... "Honestly? I try to listen to as much music as I can. Different influences really help when it comes to writing songs." He replied, knowing that she was probably looking for a more specific answer. "So I listen to a lot of different stuff. Different era's too. They say that if you really want to learn about music, you should look back to where it came from. So much of its roots have to do with rhythm and blues in the fifty's. Little Richard, the Supremes. Though... They were the early sixties..." His voice trailed off for the moment, before he snapped back and looked at her, laughing nervously. "Sorry! Sometimes I get carried away with this kind of thing."

"I like listening to you talk about it." Noah replied. When it came to music, he could probably talk about it forever. "It shows how much it really means to you." He stopped for a second and thought of a question; a difficult one, but a good one all the same. "So do you have a favourite song? Or like, a few favourites?"

“Ah I see. Yeah I have to agree, I don’t limit myself to a few certain genres either. I like everything. “ She didn’t mind the vague answer; she would have probably said the same thing. “Yeah they do say that, huh? But I tend to keep to the newer stuff, sometimes I give myself homework assignments to listen to some older songs and stuff. I like knowing all there is about something, especially when I’m passionate about it. Little Richard is awesome, and so is Elvis.” Mia laughed a little “It’s really not a big deal. I love hearing people talk about music, I can listen to them talk for hours even if I don’t put much effort into talking about it.” For some reason she didn’t talk about music as much as you would have thought.

Mia blushed a little “I like listening to you talk about it too.” Music did mean a lot to her “Yeah, I think I get it mostly from my Uncle and Da.” Her Uncle could talk about music forever too. “Oh? Tough question. Though I have to say any and every song of Icon for Hire. Especially ‘Up in flames’, and ‘Theatre’. I love Icon for Hire because they don’t sing about love, break ups, and sex. They sing about real issues and they really inspire you. “

Noah was clearly glad when she was talking about music influences. The fact that she knew the names that he had mentioned was a big plus, as a lot of people in the world stuck themselves mainly to whatever was on the radio recently. He preferred keeping his taste broad and listening to as much as he could. "Don't tempt me, I'll talk your ear off for the rest of the retreat. And you probably have better things to do." He replied with a small laugh.

"See, no one in my family was really into playing instruments and singing. It was something I kind of discovered on my own, especially through taking lessons at my old school. This was the first guitar I ever bought, so I can't imagine buying a new one. Even if it seems like it's falling apart." He looked down to the instrument he was holding, staring at it for a second or so before swinging it behind his back again. He kept his hand on the neck like last time, because he really was precious about it.

"It's true, right? It's hard to find a song in everyday music that doesn't circle around those three topics." Noah said with a grin. Really, it was like all some artists talked about was their break ups. "I guess when people try to make music that's accessible, they think of the main things that people will relate to. But there's more to life than love and sex, right?"

Mia knew a lot about music, well she knew a lot about a lot of things but it had been music that captured her heart. Mia didn’t like the fact a lot of people kept to liking whatever was popular on the radio; it didn’t make sense. She guessed she was just the type to have a wider range of music than that. Mia laughed a little “Nah, nothing better, I love talking about music. Though it seems I don’t talk about it as nearly as much as some other stuff I could go on and on about…“ She gave him a slight smile, she was more of a listener when it came to certain topics.

“Ah, See my Ma kind of made me take piano and violin lessons.. Though I’m grateful to her for making me take piano, I love it. Though she herself doesn’t play and my Da didn’t play any instruments, it’s pretty much just my Uncle. And my Uncle hasn’t always been around, I mean he visited but he lives in Vermont..” She shrugged, “I’m just glad there had been someone where I live who played an instrument and could teach me.” Really Barrow was a very small city, it shouldn’t even be called a city. “I get the whole not wanting to get rid of your first instrument thing; even if it’s old.” She never brought her own instrument but one day she wanted a house with a piano in the living room, one she would buy herself. “My Uncle bought me my first violin and I still have it. It means everything to me but I’m sure your guitar means more to you because you bought it.”

“Well It’s not really that hard, but it is hard to find inspiring music that’s upbeat. The bands that don’t sing about those topics and sing about life matters are almost always hardcore metal or rock bands.” Mia thought that was pitiful “I don’t think it has anything to do with them relating to it, but record labels knowing that, that is the topics teenagers or people in general want to listen to most. I mean look at Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift, all their songs revolve around hook ups and Break ups and they are both very, very famous. Record labels just know what they’re doing and all they care about is getting their ‘clients’ publicity and getting themselves money.“ Mia had a lot to say about the modern day music and a lot of it was just her complaining about how stupid it all was. “There’s way more to life than just people’s love life.” Hey, just look at Mia she didn’t even have a love life; at least not yet.

"I had friends in school, but that was about it." Noah replied. He thought a lot about those moments, but he was so glad for the move because it meant that he got to meet so many new people with the same kind of interests that he had. Aside from the fact that it was so helpful for his family, that was another good part the move. "I'm glad to find people to talk music with. It's a huge difference." And it made him ridiculously happy.

Noah nodded along with all the points she was making, agreeing completely. Everything she said was something he believed in. "You're pretty passionate about that." Noah replied with a chuckle, "It's a good thing. It means you really care." And she was a songwriter; that was something to keep in mind.

"Maybe it'll be your music that starts to change things, who knows?" He smiled in her direction. Yeah, he was an optimist like that. "I know I'd be listening."
