Lunch time. One of the worst times. Not because of the people and certainly not because of the break, but mostly because of the mysterious nature of the food. Ever since his stunt a few weeks ago with the moving meat monsters Lani had been given a stern talking to and essentially was given a warning along with chores. The chores weren't bad he had gotten to know the kitchen staff who slipped him the good stuff. Besides they had more than once hid him when someone was looking for him. Certainly they weren't coddling him they had him using his power to get hot pots out of the oven and multitasking by washing and drying dishes at the same time. It was tedious work but the repetitiveness had helped his power at least a little bit. Kitchen workers were the best of people, jolly for the most part (as long as one did their job), and the stories they told! They could keep him listening for hours.
They agreed with him on a lot of things but then on others he was lectured but he was lectured with stories not lectured with 'what ifs'. It made it more real. It struck Lani and made him listen. But that was beside the point. He wasn't working right now but he did slip through the kitchen to gather fresh food. He was seen and the head cook pretended to not notice until he had gathered a fine meal and then she shooed him out theatrically. He looked around and chose a table at random. He would really have rather sat in the kitchen and eaten but he would have been in the way. He sat down with a little smile toward the Asian looking kid at the other end of the table. He seemed small but not young. Lani was taller than him but he wasn't by far the tallest person here. He didn't cross six feet, not short though, he was average, completely average. He didn't even have an interesting ethnicity, just another Caucasian male.
He cut open a hot roll and stuck in a few pieces of ham and cheese making himself a little hot roll. He tapped his fingertips on the table. Lani always got bored if there was no one to talk to, after all he had missed Adrianna at lunch, she was still eating quickly and running off to study. He really wasn't sure where Odion was, or Shapiro. So his power started reaching out as Lani chewed on his sandwich. It grabbed someone else's unopened soda and it rolled across the floor and then floated to the table and slid across to Lani's hand. He smiled at the guy at the end of the table, shrugging as if he had done nothing and opened the can. He took a sip of the coke and decided that that was fun because now the student was looking for it but there were about a hundred people in here with the same soda. Amused now Lani grabbed an apple off of another person's tray and added it to his own.
