New to school, new to state, new to country [open]

Dominic had hardly been out of the hospital for for three days before his parents shoved him onto an air plane to some small town that he had never heard of, to send him to a school for people with his condition. It was hard enough for him that he had to leave his friends and family behind back in Edmonton after waking up from a week long comatose, but to be sent off because he was a meta? That irritated the teenager to an extreme extent. He thought finding out he was a meta would have been cool at first, but the effects of his power was truly a pain. So much so that as the yellow painted taxi drove through the town he started getting headaches, which seemed to intensify the closer it got to the Hammel Institute. "God dammit, pain in my neck. Why I am being sent to a place that causes me such pain?" He said to himself as he popped three pain killers into his mouth and swallowed them with a mouth full of red bull.

It took a few minutes for the taxi to make it way to the institute gates where the cab driver decided to drop him off. "What? Can't take me all the way to the front door?" He snapped at the driver which was only feeding the growing headache he had, but it also caused a slight argument with the man. So he got out of the cab after paying the driver and removed his four pieces of luggage from from the back, and the driver sped off shouting profanities to Dom.

"Great, my new life in hell" He said to himself before his head started throbbing, and him walking with his luggage towards the school.

"Do believe," Rhett approached from behind. "there are people having a worse time than you." Taking the luggage from the younger guy's hands, Rhett offered his right hand to him with a soft smile. "Dominic James Edmonds, right?" Of course I'm right. "My name is Allex and I'm here to help you through your first day in the Hammel Institute."

Rhett's voice was rather formal and serious without stopping from being warm. It was meant to be welcome-y, and it certainly was. Beckoning Dom, Rhett started to walk through courtyard in the general direction of the school's building.

"So, Alberta." He said. "Now, I don't know Canada that well, but I don't think it's that much different from Vermont. You'll get used quickly, I'm sure." He turned his face towards Dom with a smile. "But it is still hard for everyone. It's pretty much a new life. The good thing is this place filled with people like you, so you won't ever feel different." Rhett's walking pace was rather quick, he wasn't in a rush, but it probably looked like that. "I, for example, am from France. Now that was quite a change." He sighed. "So, before we start our little tour, do you have any question at all about... well anything." He smiled. "I promise that I'll try to answer it if I can."

There really wasn't much use of approaching Dominic from behind since he could sense Rhett approaching him from behind, and really wasn't all that surprised that he knew his name and where he came from. The knowledge of Rhett's powers came to him before he even arrived at the school in the form of a headache. "And so it begin's" He thought as he turned around and put a smile on his face to greet the fellow student that decided to welcome him. "Please, call me Dom. Nice to meet you Allex, thank you for coming all this way to meet with me" This guy seemed to be sincere enough from his tone and Dominic was genuinely thankful for the help he was willing to give him.

With half his load relieved from him, he started to follow Allex towards the school as he spoke of how similar his home was with his new home in Vermont. "All I hope is that there is some place around here that can finally allow me to relax" Dom spoke before he heard Allex say how he was from France, and was amazed how well he could speak english so fluently. "I bet that was a real hassle, going from your home land, speaking your native tongue. Then being thrusted into a country where your forced to speak a completely different language. Have to ask, how long have you been attending this school?" He asked while keeping up with Allex's pace while taking a look at the greenery of the courtyard. "One more thing, who is the gardener of this facility, I'd very much like to meet them and comindate them on their efforts"

"Sure, there are a lot of places to relax." Rhett said rather awkwardly, remembering he had been anything but relaxed ever since he got back from France a week ago. "No, not really." It hadn't been that much of a hassle to move to America. It had actually been his choice. "I do ok enough with a couple of languages," He had picked them through the years traveling Europe, he even knew how to signal in FSL. "and English is not really that hard." Althought he really just mastered after arriving in Hammel. "Now, Russian. That's a hard one." Rhett smiled to Dom. "I've been here a year and half."

It was a rather interesting thing to say. A year and a half... It definitely seemed much less. He almost wondered where did all that time go to, had he really lived a year and a half worth of experiences in America? Rhett shook his head lightly, trying to keep the thoughts away. He didn't want to scrutinize all that had happened since he moved here. Past is past and it is to stay that way. It was for the better.

"Oh, I don't know that one." Words that Rhett didn't usually throw easily, but that right now were nonetheless true. "So through there, you'll have the cafeteria and most of the labs." He pointed at an upcoming fork in the road. "That big building in front of us is the administrative building. You'll have to go there after you settle on your room, so keep it in mind." He now pointed towards the road in the direction they were walking to. "This road leads to the dorms and further ahead, to most of the classrooms buildings."

Dominic listened as Allex said that there were plenty of places around here that was good for relaxing, surely his relaxing differed from Dominic's own form. However he wasn't going to dwell on that fact, he would have to find out for himself during his time here. He slowed down for a second to reach into his hoody to pull out a pack of smokes and placed a cigarette to his lips. As Allex said he spoke several languages including Russian impressed him yet again, and even more so that he chose to come to this place by choice.

"That's where we differ Allex. Unlike you I was forced to come here, but I'd rather not talk about that right now" He said before offering him a cigarette, he himself hadn't had one since a few hours before he left home. Damned taxi driver wouldn't let him smoke in the cab, a fact he really hated. Dominic stopped as Allex started pointing out the different buildings, and examined where each buildings outer structure. "Alright, so that was the grand tour? Why don't you tell me something about yourself, like what you are capable of doing with your clairvoyance?"

It wasn't like Payson was eavesdropping or anything. She just so happened to be walking by when she saw the new kid. Whoo. Someone that was newer than her! That was awesome. Maybe they would end up being normal or something. Well, normal as you can get at Hammel. Which... well... wasn't normal. Blech. And, of course, she had to be one of the abnormal ones. At least the new kid seemed to be in the same boat.

The fifteen year old approached the two boys somewhat cautiously, wrinkling her nose at the sight of the cigarette. "Hey," she said, nodding to Rhett (whom she'd seen before). Then she turned her attention to the new boy, eying him a little nervously. "I'm Payson," she said politely, smiling awkwardly. "Welcome to Hammel, and all that."

Everything about the new boy was a conflict to her. He was fascinating, but at the same time, he made her want to take several steps back, so that there was a safe distance between them. Payson wasn't sure if her meta power applied to lung diseases from second hand smoking. God, she hoped so. It would be really bad for her if, as a gymnast, something happened to her lungs, or her heart, or any vital organ really. Oh geez.

Rhett twisted his lips with Dom's cigarette offer. He hated them, specially the smell, but he needed this guy on his side for the moment, and so he just shook his head politely with a smile.

"I don't smoke, thanks." He said.

Rhett wondered how did the boy catch that Rhett had chosen to go to Hammel and not dragged there. Knowing that France was in Kocher's jurisdiction and so the only way to be at Hammel was by personal decision was quite good knowledge, and assumption power, for someone that was just discovering they were meta. Interesting.

"You're right," Straight to the point, Rhett liked that. "Hammel's all not that interesting." The boy's mention of clairvoyance made Rhett smile a bit. He's better than I initially thought. Good. "It's not really clairvoyance, see, it's also a bit of retrocognition." He clarified. "In the big list of meta-abilities, it is officially called Extrasensory Perception. ESP for short."

They were getting closer to the dorms when a girl approached them. Rhett dismissed her as unimportant until the moment in which she greeted them and introduced herself. Great, who invited this nuisance? Rhett rolled his eyes. Now he had to find a way to push her away or drag her around. He waited a moment to let the initial decision fall in the new boy's hands.

Dominic shrugged when the offer for the cigarette was declined and placed them back into the pocket of his hoodie. "Meh, more for me" He said with a slight grin, however it was almost instantly replaced with a pained look on his face. It must have been the proximity to the student dorms that was escalating his prior headache to a migraine, this caused him to drop the smoke from his mouth brought his free hand up to his temple. Great now the healer was approaching them and decided to introduce herself from a distance.

"Fuck it, move through the pain. Fucking Meta's" He thought to himself as his hand moved from his head back to his pocket to pull out his pill bottle. After popping three more pills into his mouth Dominic looked at the girl and put the smile back onto his face to assure her that he was a good guy. "Don't worry about me you two, and thanks for the introduction. My name is Dominic, but you can call me Dom" He said trying to keep the smile on his face, then turned back towards Allex. "Never heard of Retrocognition, explain it if you could please"

America was weird. Different and very busy. Declyn just couldn't stop snapping pictures. Between the buildings and the trees and the mountains and everything! It was so incredibly overwhelming, but Dec just couldn't get enough. He would no doubt like his new home, even if he only spent a year or so in this quaint little town of Pilot Ridge. Surely, he'd make new friends. Or he hoped so at least. Usually it wasn't too hard, but that was back in Europe, and he was a long way from home.

Walking through the courtyard, camera hanging from his neck, Declyn was searching for people. He hadn't gotten to socialize much when he was traveling because no one was willing to talk to him. He was a little weird sometimes and people just couldn't handle it. The hallucinations didn't help. Between him thinking there was a cat riding a unicycle on the plane to a monkey sitting on someone's head, well he was having some issues with the side affects from his powers.

As he searched, he flicked his lighter open and closed several times. The flame would ignite and from the slight breeze would extinguish. Reality. He could handle that. Walking through the quiet little area he came upon a small trio and smiled. Finally, people that he could interact with. God he hoped they'd be able to understand him through his accent. Kocher had helped take care of most of it, but it still came out rather thick.

"Ello lads and lasses, or lassie rather," He greeted with his charmer smile. He wasn't entirely sure if it was alright to just butt into a conversation like he was doing, but then again, he had never been a problem to him before. He was easy going enough to carry on a conversation with just about anyone. Even if he didn't know any of the people here. Or so he thought he didn't.

And just who's worrying about you? Rhett rolled his eyes. The scene of the boy popping pills like they were candy was a familiar one. Thank god that phase was over, now it was just a matter of controlling the power rather than adjusting to it and its side-effect.

"Well, let's just leave it as I get to know a lot of things I shouldn't." He summed it up.

It was much better, and friendlier, than explaining the etymology and obvious explanation of the word "retrocognition". He was about to find away to shoo the girl away with some "we're busy" excuse when another boy popped out of nowhere. Rhett's ESP didn't have to fire up to tell he was, also, a new student. Great, newb magnet.

"Oh lookies," He said to Dom. "first day and you already have two new friends who are also, well, new." He fake-smiled. "Payson, Declyn," He said to the other two, not really acknowledging that he had instantly learned the irish boy's name out of nowhere. "I have to take Dominic to his room to leave his luggage before we finish a tour of the school." Rhett softly placed his free hand in the boy's shoulder and then pointed at the dorm's building entrance. "It's that way." He said to Dom before directing his attention to the other two. "He'll have to get to know you more later."

He was just hoping the other two would not offer to follow and accompany them.

Dominic really didn't like that Allex was avoiding his question about his powers, but wasn't going to dwell on it a whole lot. His cigarette from before was still burning on the ground, so he knelt down to pick it up and brought it up to his lips. Since he took his painkillers the migraine started to subside, but his powers were still going on. So it wasn't hard to tell when the dream walker came up towards the group. "So much for a relaxing" He said quietly under his breath and glanced at Declyn from the corner of his eye.

With all the introductions going on Dom was getting tired of a the attention and acknowledged the hand on his shouder. "You know, as off putting as this guy is, he is right. How about we meet up later on and get to know each other later guys" He said to both declyn and Payson before turning towards the dormitory. "Oh wait, here let me give you guys my number" Dom said giving the two his number, and started towards the building. God I need some sleep

Payson was going to leave in a second. But Rhett was being such a grade A jerkface... She rolled her eyes at him, then smiled at Dom, accepting his number. "Thanks," she said, backing away a bit. "Although you might want to watch out for Rhett. I think he's PMSing or something." Because he was usually sooo much nicer than this. That was a load of crap. But whatever. She would pretend to swallow his crap now, then take it out on her routines later when she went to the gym. It might be helpful.

And apparently, 'Declyn' wasn't welcome here either. Payson gave Rhett one last icy glare (not that it would do anything, but whatever) and turned to leave. She didn't need him telling her what to do. "See you later then, Dom," she said, shrugging, before turning to wander back to her dormitory so that she could visualize her routines or something. Er... right.

Rhett raised an eyebrow at the girl. Rhett? Who is she anyway and why would she know me? He shrugged. The only thing that mattered was that he was finally back alone with Dom, and so, his mission continued.

"So where were we exactly?" Rhett falsely pondered as he led the younger kid into the dorms building. "Oh right. So, I believe you're a meta tracker, are you not?" He didn't believe this, he was sure of it. "It pretty much assures you a job in the future. Metas like you are highly valued commodities to organizations like Hammel." He made sure his tone of voice was friendly and warm. He couldn't let Dom know his power was Rhett's only interest in him. "You just developed it, right? You learned my power right away, you seem to be quite good for your age."

As they arrived at the stairs at the end of the corridor, Rhett offered to carry Dom's other luggage up the stairs, after all, of the two of them, the obviously stronger one was the blonde, and the luggage didn't really weighted that much. Once they were in Dom's floor, Rhett led the new student through the scenic route, as he knew his mission target was in that direction.

"In all honesty, up until a month ago I was never able to use my ability on purpose," And he still hadn't learned the hang of it. "did you do that to me or was accidental?" They were approaching that floor's common area were a few students could be heard. "Like could you... I don't know..." Rhett stopped for a moment and pointed at a blonde boy sitting in a couch by slightly moving his head. "know what that guy's power is?"

It really seemed like Alexx was on a mission to get to know him strictly for his powers, and found that to be a very undesirable trait in his opinion. Wanting to get him alone, so he would play along for now just to find out his true motive. "It's a curse, not a power. A power is something cool like flying, super strength, or anything like that" He said with a sour look on his face as they entered the dormitory, he could feel his migraine getting worse even with his painkillers going through his system.

"Yeah I just developed my power, and it doesn't take much skill when your power is always on" Dom said as they walked up the stairs, him carrying the luggage he already had, he didn't want to owe the guy any more then he already did. So he just followed Alexx as they walked through the building, he seemed set on taking him some place that he really didn't want to go to, around more meta's.

They stopped near the common area, and from Dominic's observation, Alexx wanted to test his use of the powers he possessed. "There are too many over there for me to pinpoint exactly what power belongs to what person. Can't be of much help in that department" Dominic was quite done with this character and looked in the direction of the dorms. "Well I'd love to stay and chat with you Alexx, but I am going to try and lay down for a bit before I go an continue the tour" He said taking his luggage from Alexx and started to head towards his dorm. Of course he could tell each of those peoples powers, he just didn't want Alexx to know that, at least not just yet.
