It had been over a month now since Cole had been to work. More like a year it felt, but no. He'd made the occasional appearance while his leg was in a cast, but that was it. Then, his first night to be back at work, Rayne got sick and that seemed like it would never relent. Not that Cole minded it, he enjoyed the time he spent with her whether it was good or bad.
He was just happy that she'd gotten better. But even had she not, Cole would have been by her side still. Luckily, both of them were feeling better and more than ready to get back to the lives they had outside of Cole's apartment. She had gone to work early this morning, while he wasn't to come in until later in the afternoon. That was definitely something Cole didn't like. At this rate he'd never see her at home when she stayed with him.
A thought hit him as he pulled into the club's parking lot. He pulled out his phone and went to texting, "Hey, I'm at work if you want to come by when you get off. Hope to see you soon, baby. " Then, satisfied with the text, Cole hit the send button and sent the message to his girlfriend. He took the cigarette from his lips and walked into the club. He stayed low and blended for a moment, slowly making his way to Johnny's office before revealing himself to be who he was.
Johnny was almost ecstatic to him, "Cole! You crazy sonuvabitch. Where have you been?" Johnny asked him and then embraced him. Damn, I guess Johnny really did miss him.
Cole was a bit taken aback by the hug at first. He hadn't expected his boss to be so happy to see him, let alone give him a hug. Finally, Cole returned the "bro-style" hug and spoke, "Just when I thought I was gonna get back to life, Rayne got sick. She ended up with the flu and I couldn't leave her alone. She's good now though."
"Damn women always gotta bring your ass down, son? Nah, I'm playing. Go grab you a water and get ready We'll be starting you up in just a few minutes." Johnny said and patted him on the back, "Glad you're alright, kid."
"Thanks, bossman." And with the Thank you, Cole went into the back room. He took a water from the nearby mini-fridge and had a seat on the couch. He groaned in pleasure as the couch conformed to his body. He moved to lay back and relax for a moment before he began to work and sweat his ass off, "I missed this couch...." He sighed and began to focus his mind and decide what songs he was going to sing tonight.
