Aiden scuffed a shoe against the dusty ground, sighing. He had invited Therru to come to the lake with him, not telling her his intentions of doing so. They had been dating for about a month now, but try as he might, he just couldn't get over the fact that in winning her, he had lost his best friend. The person that had always had his back, no matter what. He tried to put effort into the relationship, he really did. Therru was sweet, and pretty, and he did like her... But it wasn't fair to either of them if he couldn't put his entire being into the relationship.
He was standing at the edge of the lake, staring out over its calm blue waters. It was a warm, party sunny day, but he almost wished it was cloudy and raining, so it would match the torrent of emotions inside him. He was determined to put a stop to this game, today. He just hoped he would be able to without breaking Therru's heart. He was going to take this as slowly and gently as possible, but breaking up was never easy. Especially in a situation like this.
He ran a hand through his disheveled hair, glancing over his shoulder. She should be there any moment, he thought. He took a deep breath and straightened himself, putting on what he hoped was a look of calmness and sincerity, and not how he really felt inside.
