Kallie, you stop this right now!
Mrs. Alison Desiree Snow glared into the oppressive darkness that had suddenly fallen in her pristine, state of the art kitchen. She was a tired woman, reflected in her limp mousy brown hair and the sagging of her shoulders. Raising a sixteen year old meta-human all by herself was no easy task. It had only been two weeks since Kallista's father had passed away from a rare blood cancer, but that seemed to have triggered the awakening of her powers. Ever since she had discovered them she had taken to experimenting with the illusions. There was only so much of this she could take.
Kallie, please...Please, baby, come talk to me?
Slowly the darkness began to abate, replaced by a lush meadow. It was a little rough around the edges; a glitter of stainless steel peeking through the tall wildflowers, the eggshell white tile floor giving the thick grass an odd hue. But even Alison had to admit that Kallie was good. Alison sighed and sank to the floor, leaning against the solid yet unseen presence of what had to be the oven.
Kallista, put the kitchen back please.
There. A rustle of movement, a fleeting glimpse of light blonde curls and a glitter of bright blue eyes. Finally Kallie stepped out from the darkness that had been the family room. Alison had always marveled at her daughter's innocent beauty, but now that she was growing up she was turning into a truly lovely young lady. She wished more than anything that Michael could be there to see her.
I don't like the kitchen, Mom.
I know, baby. Come sit with me. Tell me what's going on.
The girl was hesitant as she always had been, timid and shy even around her mother. Alison hoped that maybe Hammel could change that. She deserved friends and boyfriends and a life. She was such a smart girl, the top in all her classes. But she never had brought friends home, never went out to movies or sleepovers. It just wasn't natural for a nearly sixteen year old girl.
I miss him.
Those were the only three words that Alison Snow could not handle from her daughter's lips. Not a day went by that she didn't see the pain in Kallie's eyes, hear the falter and nervous edge to her naturally infectious laugh. Those words...they broke her, and she was sure they did worse to her little girl. Coming to terms was hard. But Kallista had had such a wonderful sixteen years with her father. They had been so close, such great friends. They were both kind and bubbling over with a sense of absolute joy. But at the same time they felt the way that no one else could feel. They mourned deeply, they expressed with perfect clarity. They could have been one entity in two bodies. Both were funny and whip smart, always ready with a clever remark.
Not now. Now Kallista was sullen and withdrawn, wary of the privileged few who crossed her path. She wasn't Kallie anymore, and there was nothing Alison could do to fix her. No matter how many times she tried to get her baby in the kitchen to bake or to play her guitar or to sing like she had always loved to do, the broken blonde always just pushed her away. She turned to her increasingly realistic fantasy worlds, escaping to the rain forest in her room or spending hours floating on the glassy surface of a lake that consumed her bathroom. She and Michael had never imagined that their little girl had such extraordinary powers, but now she was getting more powerful every day. Sometimes it scared Mrs. Snow, more than she would ever admit. At night Alison would walk in to a forest or a beach instead of Kallista's room. Her daughter barely knew the extent of her power. So Mrs. Snow made the decision to do the hardest thing she would ever do. She would send her only daughter away and hope that some day she would see her again, happy like she used to be.
Kallie, baby...You can't stay here..like this.

Kassandra thought that she and Mercedes made a good team, what with her own keen snake eyes and speed and Mercy's sharp sense of smell. But the primitive nature of the coyote bothered her. Not so much that it would interfere with doing her job, but enough to make her wary of the girl. Well, not that she wouldn't have already been wary of her. She was wary of most people.
As Kass stalked lightly behind Mercedes she pondered what it would feel like to be a full viper, to slither on her belly and feel the cool earth beneath her equally cool skin. She imagined that it would be quite like heaven. But she was trapped in a body that no one wanted and everyone rejected. Everyone but the Fallenring. She supposed that even if she had been a simple shifter she would've ended up with the Fallen anyway, but there was still something...off in the way the others treated her. At least she would have fit in better if she were a shifter.
Mercy barked in her her general direction and sprinted off. With a light sigh Kass followed, her lithe muscles flexing and bringing her swiftly towards the coyote. She stayed a few paces behind, observing the girl's behavior. And then there he was. An elk simply dozing beneath a tree. In the back of her mind she thought that perhaps she recognized him, but she was unsure. Mercy was getting to close to the large animal for her comfort. With a few swift bounds Kassandra moved lightly in front of the coyote, scooching them both back a few steps.
"Careful," she whispered in Shiftertongue.
With a delicate, snakelike grace she crouched next to the elk, a soft hiss spilling from her slightly parted lips. Very gently she extended a gold and black scaled hand and prodded at the animal, scuttling back before he could wake up. She wouldn't want to be too close should he attack.
((Not with Kallie, but this was a pre-existing character of mine that I based Kallie on, so I hope this is okay. Also, if I left anything out in the freewrite portion, just let me know! It's hard to keep track of the details I have and haven't mentioned when I'm just writing it down. =D ))
