In a time far, far away, two brothers loved to cause mischief at a school called the Hammel Institute. The oldest had the power of mind control; the youngest was a telekinetic who loved to visit his big brother whenever he had the chance. Mark and Tom Riggins were inseparable as siblings went, doing everything together. They played college football together, got tattoos together, and sometimes dated the same woman together.
Until Kelly Rowlings.
Kelly was a beautiful woman, all long legs and brunette curls and plush pink lips and bedroom green eyes, smelling like one of their old professors, a pheromone manipulator. Mark had met her in the final days of college life, football star to her sorority cheerleader, the typical cliché. She had been a meta also, a woman with the power of pheromone control, like their old professor. Kelly, for all her good looks, was cunning, sneaky, and deceptive, using her looks to her advantage to try and find a handsome and rich husband. She found her prey in Tom, Mark’s younger brother, and like any classical dating movie, the pretty cheerleader dumped the football player for his much more attractive and far richer younger brother. Mark was heartbroken, and he never forgave his younger brother for stealing the only woman he had ever loved.
Tom and Kelly married and lived in a grand house, moving every few years when Tom was signed onto a new football team. They were living in Dallas, Texas when Kelly gave birth to Matthew Joseph Riggins. The little boy grew up with everything he could have imagined or asked for, and he learned at a young age that his parents were special, like superheroes with their “super powers”. He went to school normally, grew up normally, and made normal friends. He learned of the family feud between his father and his uncle, seemingly because of his mother, and he was taught never to remark upon it.
When Matt was fourteen, there was a family reunion in the Dallas home of the Riggins’, hosted by his parents. Everyone got dolled up as per usual and greeted the entire clan of Riggins. Aunts, uncles, grandparents came from both sides of the family and ate barbeque and recited tales for the youngest Riggins member. In the middle, however, Mark stumbled through the door and began yelling at his brother for everything that had happened fifteen years ago, when Tom had not seen his brother in that same amount of time. Matt could only watch as his father and uncle began fighting with their powers; his uncle trying to control his father’s mind, his father sending objects spinning around the room. Even his mother’s exotic scent joined the fray as she tried to use her power to make his uncle feel something other than anger and malice.
A thick scent filled the room then, similar to Kelly’s but more masculine, filling the room with fear. The attacks finally stopped, but everyone fled the premises except for Kelly, Tom, Mark, and Matt. The young teenager was staring in fear, his power coming out in almost visible waves, attacking Mark the most as his mother tried to calm him. By the time the boy had fainted in shock, the police had showed up and taken Mark away on accounts of assault. When Matt woke up, his parents had been in the kitchen, talking to a strange man about a school that both of them had gone to when they were his age. That week, Matt was packed and sent to Vermont, to Hammel Institute,
He spent the next four years there, learning his power, the same as his mother, and learning the control over it. He lost his virginity when he was sixteen, in a bout of lost control around one of the prettier girls in his class. When he was seventeen, he lost a bet with some upperclassmen and abused his power to get alcohol. He was properly disciplined, but it reminded him of when he first discovered his powers, when his family had fought, and he swore that he would never use his powers like that again. He graduated with good grades, staying out of trouble, and went back home for a year.
In that year, he broke his promise a million times over, “improving” his sexual prowess, learning how to hold his liquor, driving fast cars and faster motorcycles, finally buying a motorcycle of his own to take back to Vermont when he went to college. He just had his 21st birthday, so of course he has that excuse should he get into trouble. He currently lives in an apartment complex on the outskirts of the University of Vermont, studying engineering and playing football for the college. He has very good control over his power, but sometimes the alcohol makes him slip, or he cheats and uses it to grab a couple of pretty girls for the night.
