Where to Sit... (Open)

Ever since she was little, for as long as she could remember, Kota had always ALWAYS hated lunch. Not the meal itself but the lunch room, the school food, and especially finding where to sit.

Kota was just getting into her classes at Hammel and now had to deal with the dreaded lunch room. Part of her told her she should just go sit outside or not eat at all and wait till later, when she was back in her room. But everyone else was in the cafeteria, eating and socializing. Kota wanted so badly to fit in, she just didn't know how. She was going to make an effort though.

So after weaving her way through the line, Kota stood looking around the lunch room, feeling the sense of panic taking over yet again. Now that she was there, where on earth would she sit? Finally, she spotted a table near the back where no one else was. Perfect. She began to make her way over there, being carefully as to not trip.

She made it to the table and sat down unharmed and alone. Kota pulled out her sketch book and sat it beside her on the table. As she began to nibble on her food, she started to draw. It was a flower, the exact detail yet to be added.

Lunch time was something Lucy gave no fucks about. But it was the kind of thing that you kinda had to do, unless you wanted to starve and that's just stupid. So she parked up in line with everyone else and got her food, all the while cursing under her breath about American schools and their lunch system.

With her tray in hand Lucy wandered along, headphones covering her ears as she popped the straw between her lips and fumbled it around slightly. A slight turn of her head as she walked past the blonde girl and she caught sight of what she was doing. At first she wasn't going to stop; Lucy wasn't the kind of person who liked to talk to total strangers that often. But she had a thing for art and the artists who drew it. Lucy stopped walking, flicking the headphones from her head and around her neck as she leaned over the table.

"Looks good." She commented, but the nicety sounded a little awkward coming from her. Lucy was leaning with her arm on the table, her skin exposed. The tattoos on her arm were dancing about on her skin; slowly but surely moving along the canvas of her body.

After getting over the initial shock of being something other than human, and then being manhandled and stowed away in what is best described as a government run asylum. After a bout of completely understandable depression and a phase of logical rage, there comes a time when the last remaining option is to come to terms with the situation.

Even things like lunch that had been such a bother at the beginning aren’t so troublesome anymore. Nanami had learned to stay quiet enough so that whoever tried to talk to her during lunch was eventually chased away by boredom. Talking to her could be less interesting than talking to a wall.

There were no completely empty tables. In such cases, nearly empty tables suffice. Nearly empty tables are strategically better even than empty tables because one could choose near whom one sits and not the other way around.

Thus she placed her tray at a table where some blonde girl was pouring over her homework. It seemed like the perfect place, she began the tedious task of eating without paying much attention to her surroundings.

Until another girl appeared and stopped by their table to gaze into the blond girl’s homework. From where she was sitting, Nanami couldn’t see what was so interesting about the notebook, and like she did about half a million times before, she reminded herself that she didn’t care anyway. But what caught her eye and prevented her from looking away instantly was the transforming tattoos. It couldn’t be easily explained why these tattoos were so interesting, it had the same sort of effect that looking through a kaleidoscope has. Or maybe because it was a little bit grotesque.

Either way, Nanami ended up staring with widely open mousy brown eyes. And that meant that she broken one of the most important rules she had constructed for herself when she came to Freak School.

As Kota drew, it didn't take long for her to completely forget about her lunch and get lost in her picture. She had a habit of going away into her own world a lot when drawing. A very far away world. It was sort of a safe place for her. Zoning out. Sometimes Kota felt like the only place she could ever find peace was her head. She wasn't really paying any attention to her surroundings at that point. She didn't notice the other girl sit down across from her. She didn't even notice what exactly she was drawing. She had started with a simple flower but it was slowly turning into something more. It was still a flower but it was a flower that wasn't one you could find on the ground. The petals were strange shapes and swooped around like they were trying to wrap themselves up. Trying to hide. The flower almost looked scared.

Kota was so lost that it took the other girls voice in her ear to jolt her out of it. Her whole body twitched liked she had just been shocked and her breathing caught. For a moment she didn't move or make a sound and then slowly she let out her breath and her body seemed to relax. Kota didn't look up at the girl. She could see her arm and the moving tattoos. It might have freaked some people out but to Kota it was beautiful. She loved tattoos but had never gotten one herself. And this girl could move them. Well, that's what she assumed her power was. Even though she hadn't been at the school to long she had seen many strange abilities. This wouldn't be the scariest she had seen in the least.

"Oh... Umm, thanks." Kota said softly looking at her flower. It was only half done and had no color but it would. The sketch book looked extremely well used. It had to be at least 200 pages and more then half were used. One could see that there were things taped in and ripped out and random edges of paper stuck out on the side. Kota's sketch books were sort of like her journals. She never showed anyone, majorly because she never had anyone to show. And she didn't really think her work was anything worth noticing.

Kota was silent for a moment before thinking she should say something. She was trying to become more social, even though she could easily be one of the most socially awkward people alive. "That's uh, really cool." She said just above a whisper, nodding to the girls arm.

Lucy saw the sketchbook, knowing what the worn edges meant it was obviously well used. Whatever it meant, it was something that she noticed anyway. She also happened to notice another pair of eyes on her. Across the table. Either on her or her arm. The slow movement of the tattoos was something that a lot of people couldn’t handle, and she knew that already. But only douches stared like that.

"Oh, yeah." She replied. With her free hand occupied by a drink and a wrapped sandwich, she lifted her hand off the table and sought after a pen from her back pocket. She brought it to her mouth, holding the lid with her teeth and pulling the pen out with a pop! Lucy then drew on the table, a small swirling pattern within a few seconds. Lifting away, she then proceeded to make it spin seemingly on its own. All part of the power.

She popped the cap on again and withdrew it into her pocket. "S'not that hard." And finally, she glanced over the table at the girl who was staring with a frown. "What."
