Only in boring flavors (Sammy and Harmony)

The courtyard was usually a place of high activity. So usually, Angie avoided it. Especially after she’d run into that awful girl that one time. But Angie had yet to see her since then. And if she saw somebody whom she thought might be that girl, the blonde ducked and ran. Or hid for a minute or two. No big deal.

But all the same, the courtyard was usually a little too active for her liking. And today was no exception. Other students were laughing and having fun with each other. It was a bit loud too. At least in the center of all the commotion.

That’s why Angie was sat towards the edge of the lawn, against a tree. Normally, she would have avoided this area all together, but the weather was so nice. She couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

She tried not to stare at the other kids, watching what exactly she was ‘supposed’ to be like as a kid lucky enough to be at a kind of boarding school. It wasn’t like she was jealous of them or anything. They were rowdy. And loud. And acting… well almost wild. But, if she were honest, it almost looked fun. Almost.

Not fun enough for her to try to join granted. That would involve talking to people. And from what she heard, that often led to making friends. And that would ruin her plan to get out of Hammel relatively undetected.

So after what she would really try to make her last glance at the others, Angie stuck her nose back into her book as she chewed on her nails.

Some days Harmony tried her very best to stay away from the courtyard, or any other place where groups of the other students hung out. She just couldn’t stand being surrounded by all those idiots.

But today Harmony was in the mood for an argument. Her mother had called her that morning being her usually nosy self, so she left her room in search of a victim to let off some steam. And as luck would have it, she came across the perfect student sitting at the edge of the courtyard, her face jammed in a book.

She walked over towards Angie, smiling to herself. “Hey there lover-girl,” she said when she was standing over Angie. “Stalking many boys lately? Or just catching up on your romance novels?”

Her face was wearing something between a smirk and a scowl as she waited for the girl to answer. This was just too perfect.

Fortunately, Angie hadn't seen the girl approaching. I say fortunately because if she had, the blonde would've gone running, leaving this to be very boring. But hearing her voice made her cringe.

She would never admit to it, not to anybody, but that voice had plagued her. For days after their first interaction, Angie heard the things the mean girl had said over and over in her head. It had horrified her that it was so plainly obvious to somebody, especially somebody who didn't even know her, that she had liked Bell. And she'd spent the next few days avoiding her friend to be sure it wasn't obvious to anybody else.

"I do not stalk boys. Nor do I read romance novels." She said, a tone of annoyance already in her voice. "But I don't expect you to know what it is. There aren't any pictu-" Before she could finish, Angie stopped herself. Biting her lip, her face flushed a bright pink. She'd almost been rude. And more than anything, she refused to allow this girl to get the better of her.

Harmony had noticed the cringe as she approached the girl and it only made the smile on her face grow. It was the kind of effect that she wished everyone would have when she walked into the room. Respect. Or at least fear.

“Suuure ya don’t,” she teased, reaching out for the book Angie had been reading. “Just like you’re not sitting her so you can swoon over anyone that walks by.” She raised her hand to her head to mimic getting weak in the knees over some hot guy. Then stopped and shook her head in disgust at Angie. “Good thing I stopped by. Wouldn’t want you to faint and bump your pretty little head on a rock of something,” she said, although she grinned at the idea of Angie bashing her head on something.

Plopping herself down beside the girl she continued. “Or maybe I should stick around to protect the dudes. Who knows what you’re capable of?”

When Harmony reached for the blonde’s book, Angie whipped it away, moving it before she had the chance to try and take it. “Please, don’t touch my things.” Though, her voice was quiet and soft. And Angie could almost hear this horrid girl laughing at the way she’d sounded.

Her cheek flushing a bright pink, Angie remember what exactly she’d been doing when they’d first met. She’d been sketching… A boy. Ugh. It had taught her to be more careful about where she drew. For a while, she’d stayed in her room to draw. But Angie didn’t expect it to continue much longer. The young liked to be among other people as she drew. “I do not swoon.” She said defensively. “And I’ve never fainted before in my life.” Angie knew that wasn’t the point of what Harmony had said. But she was upset and flustered, which lead to her saying things that don’t really have any point to the conversation.

It would appeared to people that Angie had a rod in her back from the way she stiffened and her back straightened out when Harmony sat beside her. Did this mean this girl wasn’t leaving? “I wouldn’t hurt a fly thank you very much.” Keeping her book in hand, she used her knuckles to scoot away from Harmony.

Sammy would readily admit he had been watching the pretty blonde girl every time he skated by. And he had noticed on his last roll around that there was a younger girl that was probably as pretty except for the nasty look on her face. And the pretty blonde girl looked upset.

So trying to be the curious possible knight in shining armor he thought he could be, Sammy stopped his board when he hit grass and picked it up, walking over to the tree where the girls were. He caught the tail end of the conversation, and was rather confused. Not entirely his fault this time.

"Hi there." He interrupted, much louder than he'd meant to. Cheerfully, though. "What's up?" He looked at the blonde. "Everythin' okay?" He had no clue what was going on, but he at least saw that this might not be a happy situation. He figured he could fix that, somehow.

Harmony did laugh at Angie’s meek voice. But for the moment at least she decided to give up on reaching for the book. She was already having enough fun without it. “Why is it your diary or something?” she asked. Then using a high, dreamy voice she added, “Dear Diary. I saw the cutest boy in the whole world today. But then he saw my ugly face and died.” She cracked up laughing before she could continue on.

“Oh please,” she said, brushing Angie’s comment out of the air with one hand. “You’re a complete total swooner. I’ll bet you are in love with half the boys here. Half the teachers too. You probably think even idiot, old Dr. N has a ‘rockin’ hot bod’ or something.” She stuck out her tongue at the idea.

When the boy approached Harmony threw herself in the way of Angie’s view. “Quick! Run! Save yourself!” she yelled to him. “I’m not sure how long I can keep her from tearing your clothes off.”

“It is NOT a diary!” Angie practically growled at the other girl. Why? Why in the name of all that was holy did this… cretin have to continue to bother her? Her hands tightened around her book, crinkling the cover and pages. Go away. Just go away. Leave me alone. Angie was practically yelling in her head, willing Harmony to cease to exist.

Dr. N? “You mean Doctor Neville?” Her face twisted in disgust. “Ewww! He’s like… Forty! Or something!” And that was just… Though it did anger Angie that this girl called him an idiot. Sure, she wasn’t his biggest fan. But there was no need for name-calling! Did she speak up though? No. The less amount of ammo she gave Harmony, the better.

Finally. A voice that wasn’t like nails on a chalkboard to her drew her attention. But she only saw him for a brief moment before Harmony jumped in the way. Say… the most god awful things. Unable to actually speak, Angie made a sound resembling a strangled shriek. Dropping her book, she buried her face into her hands. “Just… leave me alone.” It took all her strength to not let the stinging in her eyes to overtake her.
