Friendship is the key. [Alex!]

David loved lunch.

He loved not having a pile of books in front of him at a time of the day. He had a bowl of oatmeal in front of him, and a spoon in his right hand. He examined the whole room filled with super-powered students as he sat at the table alone. He often sat alone when Alexander wasn't around. He wasn't the boy to have many friends because of his personality, people thought of him as witty, arrogant, and cocky. That's what he hated about his abilities, his proper insecurities about himself were just rounded up into foolish calculations to keep him going by in the day.

His voice wasn't yet cracked, and he was as skinny as a twig. David was a walking punchbag, but he did befriend most of the staff members, and they were somehow the ones looking over him during his past year at Hammel. When he first found out about his abilities, her wouldn't stop getting straight a's, and he wouldn't stop noticing every flaw that the teacher made in the lesson. Obviously, he was dubbed in his local town's newspapers as the smartest child in the world. However, that brought attention towards him.

It wasn't hard to tell that this boy was a meta, he was a walking encyclopedia. He's yet thought into teaching classes. Anyway, Mr. Klaus and Mr. Grayson agreed to meet in the cafeteria approximately five minutes from now.

Alex was fine with Hammel. It'd been getting better, and he'd found a friend- David. Though, they were an unlikely pair, Alex was often aloof and slightly out-of-it, and David was sharp and keen, and frankly, a genius. Though, Alex often enjoyed being in the company of people than were smarter than him. He felt odd around them other times, though. It all depended on Alex's mood, but he'd sit with David nonetheless. The other boy was interesting to listen to, anyways.

Alex walked over, being careful to balance his tray. If he didn't go slowly, he'd most likely trip, and he wanted to spare himself from the embarrassment of everyone watching while he messed up in front of half the school. He checked the time- he was a minute early. Not bad for someone who often forgot where he was supposed to be half the time....

He sat down next to David. "Hi," he began quickly.

Taking a spoon full of his oatmeal, David didn't wait long for his friend.

David was good with all people, smart, dumb, straight, or gay. He didn't care, he just had to be better than them. David flickered his sight right next to him just as Alex took the seat. He nodded in acknowledgement of Alex's greet, and continued eating his oatmeal, well he was drinking the hot cereal, but he was indeed eating the oats and nuts that were involved in it.

"Do you like this school, Alexander?" Asked the boy, who was more than likely to know the answer. He knew the adjustment was hard, but that was for every new student, the side effects of Alex's powers were indefinitely hard. Alex wasn't a genius like David, he saw the future, which could include some serious migraines, migraines that David could relate to.

Being a metahuman didn't allow them to be a social pariah, they were outcast towards the human race, well, the humans who knew about metahumans. The side effects were damaging, but they were kind of easy to get used to. David withdrew his surroundings, saving them into his memories. Due to David's power, he hasn't forgotten anything in his life so far. He remembers everything, with every little tiny detail. It was a factor of his ability.

Now that was a tough question.

Alex tried to think before he spoke, but sometimes he didn't, and it normally ended in absolute embarrassment for the boy. Slowing down was hard, but he could do it... occasionally. This would happen to be one of those things that he actually thought about. There were so many answers that he could use, but only one he'd actually tell David, and just hope that he didn't sound like a complete and total idiot.

Alex bit his lip. "Well, sort of," he began with a shrug. "I mean, some people have been nice to me and stuff, but I miss home. San Francisco is so far away," he said quickly. "That's where home is. Hammel is loads better than the high school I was at for all of two days. The teachers actually know what they're doing," he added sheepishly. "I suppose it's better than public school."

Alex diverted his attention to his lunch for a few seconds. "Well, David, what about you? Do you like it?"

David blanked out for a second, another side effect of his powers, his mind went elsewhere when Alex mentioned San Francisco.

"The only consolidated city-county in California, it encompasses a land area of about forty six 'point' nine square miles one hundred twenty-one kilometers on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, giving it a density of about seventeen thousand one hundred seventy-nine people per square mile, otherwise six thousand six hundred ninety-two people each kilometer. It is the most densely settled large city, population greater than twenty thousand, in the state of California and the second-most densely populated major city in the United States after New York City." His words were faster than a computer could comprehend.

David forced himself back into reality after stating all of that information, and he looked around, quite embarrassed. "What?" He was quite clueless, even though he knew all of this, his powers would just zap him out of it and project various amounts of information. That was what he hated about the side effects, and the migraines, too. "I like Hammel, no problems here..."

He looked around cautiously, quite suspicious of his surroundings, rubbing his eyes, cheeks redder than bricks due to his embarrassment.

Alex tried not to stare at David as his power came out. He couldn't understand a single word that he was saying- but he wouldn't say anything about it to save David of some embarrassment. He wondered what he looked like when he was having one of his visions. Alex figured he looked quite "spacey" and like he wasn't focusing on anything. Maybe he closed his eyes... he really wasn't sure of what he did when he was seeing the future.

"Your... um, your power came through," Alex informed David quickly. "You were saying a ton of facts about... San Francisco, I think," he said with a shrug. He didn't mind it much. David couldn't help it, anyways.

"It's nice," Alex agreed quickly.

"Well .. You're not getting anything to eat?"

He finished his oatmeal, internally thanking Alex for not paying his sudden outburst any mind. David moved himself away from Alex a small bit, due to his embarrassment. The genius was insecure of himself, that's why he had to be better than everyone. That was the true reason, he wasn't sure if Alexander realized, but if he did, David would definitely end their friendship.

He could tell that Alex and he were going to be real good friends, they were already looking out for each other in the smallest of ways. They were both just those type of people to help other people with no question, or to help friends. David didn't really have friends before, because it was too hard; kids thought he was weird, they thought he were too scrawny to do anything with them (because most of them played sports.)

But here at Hammel, it isn't required to play sports, but due to David's new power, he would just be able to calculate his way through the obstacle of each and every sport .. How hard could it be?

"You play any sports?"

Alex shook his head. "I'm not hungry," he replied quickly. With Alex, it was either he was staving or refusing all food. "I'll probably eat at dinnertime," he informed David hastily. "I'm just not hungry, alright..." He didn't really like being forced to eat when he really wasn't hungry. His eldest brother did try to force him to eat when not hungry, but that was because Frankie was a stubborn guy. Alex missed his stubbornness, though.

"Of course not," Alex replied quickly. "I'm not a big fan of sports. I don't see the fun in running around, chasing a ball... I really don't," he admitted. David didn't seem like the type to play sports, either.

David liked that the boy hated sports.

David did, too, hate sports. So that was a good thing.

"Yeah, sports aren't my thing, you have muscle for that type of thing." He chortled, knowing that Alex could somewhat agree. They both were in small lanky shape, instantly making them two targets towards bullying. David was always a victim towards bullying, and his powers couldn't change that now. He'd get beat up for being a nerd either way.

"I've got some tylenol if you're going to have a headache, I have it for when I'm about to get a migraine." The genius nodded towards Alex, sliding two tablets towards him, knowing that you have to be over twelve to take two tablets.

Alex nodded. "Plus, people can get seriously injured from sports... and what's the point of chasing soccer balls down fields, or tacking people just to get a football into the endzone?" He knew David would agree with him on this one, or at least hoped he would. Alex was glad he wasn't forced to compete in sporting events; it was more his brother's thing to do such activities. Alex had been bullied by some sportier people before- those who had muscle and were strong, and could throw a punch. Alex, however, felt afraid to do such a thing.

Alex took the tablets. He'd had one of his visions earlier, one that he didn't think much about. It seemed like it wasn't really important or anything- just his sisters gossiping, which they seemed to do every single day.

"Thanks."

"I couldn't agree with you anymore."

David needed to make friends, and he would do anything to make friends. He hated video games, but he knew boys like Alexander would love video games.

"Wanna' play video games?"

Alexander was his first friend, and he was okay with that. He had to start somewhere. Boarding schools were known to be strict, but not Hammel. Even though Hammel's all secret n' stuff. But as they were previously talking about sports, various information on the topic ran through his head, kind of driving him mentally nuts. The thoughts were unbearable; remembering everything, knowing everything, thinking about every possibility would drive him insane. By the time he's thirty, he's going to be in a mental asylum.

David had to hold onto his sanity for a little while.

"Finally," Alex grinned. "I've never met anyone else who believed that sports were pointless. Everyone else thought they were the greatest things to hit the planet..."

Video games weren't quite Alexander's thing. He wasn't a fan of the whole staring at a television screen mindlessly, pressing buttons- he liked a few games, just not the gory ones. Though, he was always awful at them, which was something he'd tried to fix. Yet, no such luck. At all. Though, if David wanted to play, he'd be fine with it. Anything for a friend. "If you want to."

Alex was as loyal as loyal could get. When he knew he had a friend, he'd stick with them until things got bad and the other friend hated being with Alex- it was only then that he'd go off on his own. Alex didn't see him leaving David any time soon.

David was able to read people's body language rather easily, just because of this book he read, it was a doctor's book, a psychological book. Even though David had the intelligence to get his PhD, he was still a minor, hell, he's just finished puberty.Minus the voice part. and the hair. So he sort of knew that Alex wasn't up to playing games, he didn't want to jump into conclusions, but it would have been another conversation starter.

"You don't like video games, don't you? I don't blame you, I, too, dislike video games, they kill brain cells. What's there to do then?"

The bored boy started cracking his knuckles, he smiled at Alex, and analyzed most of the things that were going on in the room, his mind was like a computer ... He never forgot.

"Not really," he replied with a shrug. It was one of the things that made Alex different, and he didn't mind it. Video games would give him headaches before his power manifested, and going back and trying them would be a bit of a hassle- what if they gave him a bad headache, or worse, even a migraine? It was a risk he wasn't willing to take.

Alex had expected them to agree on that issue. Somehow, David didn't seem like the type that would be likely to play video games. It just wasn't logical.

Finding a substitue would be quite hard, unfortunately. Alex would've suggested drawing, or doing something artsy, but he figured that it'd bore David. However, Alex was willing to make a sacrifice- he wasn't much of a chess player, but he guessed that the other boy was, and from the looks of it, he seemed like a pretty good chess player. "Chess?" he suggested. "You'll cream me, though."

In fact, David would 'cream' Alex in a game of chess. David was unbeatable in chess, he has never been beaten, and he's even in the chess club. But to eradicate the boredom, the young genius took it into consideration.

"We shall play chess, I'll be right back, I'll get the peices."

Where could he get the pieces ..? Hmm .. They should have some in the utility closet near the lunch area. He hurriedly made his way towards the closet - but it was locked. Looking around, he knew one of the lunch ladies must have had a key. He moved towards the kitchen, and sort of found his way to the key rack near the fridge. He remained quiet, and took the largest jingle of keys.

He held the keys by both sides so they wouldn't make any noise, and he made his way back towards the closet. He grabbed the nearest chess kit, and made his way back to the table.

"Here we are."
