Bad Luck Marbles (Patch)

"Oh okay..." Ulrich said, trying not to sound awkward. It wasn't really working though. "I was just curiously... I guess."

He wanted to change the subject. So he focused back on the game, which was already over. He didn't really have the urge to go another round though, at least not right now.

"Do you have a phone?" Ulrich asked as he pulled his outdated cellphone out of his pocket. The fanciest feature on it was probably text messaging... "You can have my number if you want to... hang out... again?"

So far, Ulrich thought Patch was a pretty cool guy. He wouldn't mind becoming friends with him, and friends shared their phone numbers, right?

"Oh okay... I was just curious... I guess." He responded, and Patch nodded, turning his head away from Ulrich to look back toward the screen.

"Do you have a phone? You can have my number if you want to... hang out... again?"He offered out of the blue, and Patch turned his gaze back towards him.

"Yes I do, and sure, that sounds great." Patch responded with a small smile, quickly snatching away the boys phone. It took him a while to figure out the outdated lay out, but he got it soon enough and pounded his phone number into Ulrich's contacts, simply labeling his name as "Patch". No need to add his last name, he was pretty sure his first name was unique enough. Patch handed the phone back to the boy after saving his contact information, and gave him a small joking wink.

When Ulrich received his phone, he sent Patch a simple text message that said "hey its ulrich" so Patch would have his contact information as well. He went on without noticing the wink at all.

"If you ever want to play some Call of Duty again, just text me," Ulrich said as he turned his Xbox console off. "I just remembered that I have an errand to run."

He was right, he had a letter to deliver back home to his family that he wanted them to receive before the week was over. "I'll see you later, I guess," he said as he grabbed his keys and the letter that was already in the envelope.

Patch stood there as the German boy tapped into his phone, and soon enough his own pocket vibrated, signalling what he thought was sure to be a small text from Ulrich. "If you ever want to play some Call of Duty again, just text me, I just remembered that I have an errand to run." He said. Patch couldn't gauge whether he had did something wrong, or the boy was just being anxious. Either way Patch took it as a signal not to implore and take his leave. "I'll see you later, I guess." Ulrich said quickly afterwards, gathering things that must have been for his errands.

"Yeah, sounds like a plan. I will text you sometime, it's been fun." Patch said, with a bit more awkwardness then he intended. He gave the German boy a small nod and made his way out of the dorm and into the boys floor. It would be a quick walk back to the Co-Ed dorms.
