Reason #328 Why Bren Will Never Achieve Stefan’s Level of Swag
((With apologies…to all))
Brendan had always loved the trips he had with his uncle. Ever since he could remember Stefan had been showing up at his door, or sometimes calling on his way over, to tell him to get ready for a good time. Whether it was simply a trip to the local mall to buy a new toy or like the time he’d driven Brendan all the way to Disney World in a shiny red convertible. His mother had been less enthusiastic about these trips but most of the arguments between his mother and uncle happened away from his ears and eyes.
As he got older, his uncle had encouraged Brendan to bring along a friend if he wanted. Although that usually called for a bit more planning, since most parents were not used to Stefan’s laid back and spontaneous attitude, it was always fun. After all, what’s better than having a friend to share his awesome uncle with?
After Brendan’s power manifested, inviting friends got a little tricky. Mostly because not every young student, especially those with potentially dangerous powers and poor control, was supposed to spend long periods of time away from Hammel’s watchful eye. Still Uncle Swag always found a way. It always amazing Brendan how responsible his uncle could make himself appear when needed. Of course by the time he was at Hammel, Brendan could understand that his uncle had some qualities that not every adult approved of.
So when his uncle called up telling him was time for another one of their little adventures, Brendan was excited to say the least.
“What’ll be this time?” Stefan had asked. “You always had a great time at Chuck-E-Cheese.”
“Uncle Swag,” Bren had replied, sighing loudly into the phone. “That was when I was five.”
“How about a long weekend up at the lake then?”
“Yeah, that’s more like it. Can we rent a boat again?”
“Of course. So you got a friend or two I need to smuggle out of there?” Even through the phone, Brendan could hear his uncle grinning.
“Well…” Truth was he did have a friend in mind. A friend that he wouldn’t mind seeing in a bikini by the lake to tell the truth. But he was not sure how to bring the idea up. Since he was fifteen, he figured most adults would hesitate about the idea of him wanting to bring a girl.
But he needed not have worried. His uncle always seemed to know. A lot of times he swore his uncle had been lying to him all along and was actually telepathic. And Stefan’s idea for what was okay or not had always been more lenient than other adults.
“How about your girlfriend? What’s her name? Chloe?”
“She’s not my girlfriend!” Brendan said, his face reddening.
“Well…she’s a girl…and your friend…”
“But…”
“So ya gonna ask her or not?”
It was actually easy to get Chloe excited about going. By this time she had gotten to know Uncle Swag and was used to his personality. Her parents seemed less enthusiastic about it but eventually his uncle convinced them that he was a responsible adult and would keep two teens out of trouble.
They arrived at the lake late a night so instead of testing out the water Bren and Chloe had stayed until the wee hours of the morning talking, laughing, and watching horror movies. Bren had enjoyed the movies because Chloe had snuggled up against him during the scary scenes. His uncle had retired to his room early, using the excuse that his leg was sore from the drive. Bren was not sure if that was entirely true or if his uncle was just trying to give the two their alone time and space. If so, he was thankful. Nothing major had happened, although a few times Bren had readjusted himself to keep Chloe from knowing just how much he was enjoying her closeness.
The next morning, Bren rose early and was eager to get out in the water. Chloe was still sleeping, so he told his uncle, who was throwing together some breakfast, to let her know where he would be. After all the whole point of bring Chloe to the lake was to be with her at the lake.
The water felt great. And it was not until after Bren had already dipped his toes in that he realized in his eagerness he had left his trunks still pack in his bag back at the house. Still, it was a rather secluded spot. He considered stripping down and just hopping in, something he had done in the past when it was just “the guys”. But now that Chloe was here he decided to at least leave on his boxers.
He had only been in the water for a few minutes when he heard her coming towards him from the house. “Hey there sleepyhead,” he called. “Come on in. It feels great!” He went under for a second before rising to the surface to splash towards her.
“Later you weirdo,” she said, giggling as she jumped back to avoid getting wet. “Uncle Swag says to come get some breakfast.”
He made a pouting face, causing her to laugh some more as he got out of the water. But her face changed once he had his feet on dry land. Suddenly she looked somewhere between shock and amusement. As she was staring at something well below his eye line. He followed her gaze to see that she was looking at his boxers. It was then that he realized that his white boxers had become basically see-through from the water. He quickly moved to cover himself but not before he started to feel a little excited…down there.
Now both the teens were red in the face as Bren hurried to put back on his pants, which was a bit hard since he was still wet. He almost fell over face first in the sand, but managed to stay on his feet. Still by the time they got back into the lake house, it seemed that Chloe was afraid to look at him. The young teen was not sure if that was because she was embarrassed or worried she would start laughing.
“How was the water?” his uncle asked as the two walked him.
“It was fine,” Bren said, trying to hide the emotions from his voice.
His uncle gave him a curious look and opened his mouth to ask something else. But before he got the chance, he was interrupted by Chloe.
“Seems to me that it was a tad on the chilly side.”
As the grins started to creep onto both his uncle and his friend’s faces, Brendan was starting to wish he’d agreed they go to Chuck-E-Cheese again. Anything would be better than this.
