My stomach's doing butterflies and I'm kind of nauseous, I think. Is that when you get kind of seasick? Or well, when you feel seasick? Oh man, I'm sorry. I totally don't even remember your question now, what was it again?"
A sip of water was taken as she looked back at the woman in front of her, smiling.
"Okay, my name is Tatiana Roza Nikitina. Well, really it's Nikitin, but when you're from russian descent, as I am obviously, and if you're a female, you add an a to the end of the surname--oh, I mean last name. Americans say last name, right? I feel funny still calling you Americans, as if I'm not American. But I wasn't born here. Born in Russia, my family decided to try a new life in the free country, so here we are. At least I'm not having to put my first name last or something weird like that. I've never understood cultures that do that. Why would you want to introduce yourself as your last name? Doesn't it seem a bit, informal?"
Still smiling, fingers reached out for the cup of water, raising it to her lips once more. This entire thing made her thirstier than she could even imagine, and it wasn't at all lady-like. But she couldn't help it, water seemed to be a vital necessity for her life, much more than normal. Finishing the cup, she placed it back down rather noisily, looking at the woman once more, awaiting the next question.
"My power? Well, I don't know what it's called. It's that one where you can manipulate the cold around anyone, or anything. You can also freeze things, too. Or well, not you. I can. I can freeze things, people, anything really. I seem to gather the moisture from the air. Did you ever see that movie, umm, The Incredibles? You know Frozone? Yeah, sort of like him. Except my powers haven't exactly developed as well as his. With proper training, though, I think I'd be able to do it. I hope. I'd really love to be able to, at least."
Tatiana was becoming much more relaxed, now that she was working on calming herself down. Or maybe that's what the person in front of her was doing? Calming down her emotions? At any rate, she felt less stressed than she had just a minute ago. Relaxing seemed to be the key to her strengths, or at least getting her to open up more.
"Hmm, my family? Well, I have a mother, a father, and a younger sister. Oh no. She hasn't developed any powers yet. At least, not that we've been able to tell. Then again, she hasn't reached age thirteen yet, either. That was when I got mine. Well, two months before I turned thirteen. Can you really think of it as being thirteen? What about twelve and ten months? I think that works. Any way, it was a big shock to my dad. They had to thaw him out, and he still claims he can't feel his toes. No, I didn't freeze him in public. But it was weird, because about a week after the incident, we had these very interesting characters show up at the house--much like the two guards standing at that door over there. Anyway, they weren't forceful at all. In fact, I'd say they were pretty nice. Granted, I don't think my parents, my sister, or I put up any fight, either. They wanted to get out of that town in Oklahoma. Wouldn't you believe people could still be prejudiced against Russians, even in this day and age? I mean, World War Two's been over for what, at least fifty to sixty years? Come on people, get over yourselves and stop hating already."
With this, she'd give a harsh laugh, more so out of hate than laughter or enjoyment. Piercing brown eyes dug deep into the woman though, as if examining her. After all, she hadn't really introduced herself to Tatiana yet, either.
"What was my life like before I got my powers? Well, pretty alright I guess. We weren't an extremely rich family, but we weren't exactly poor. I'd say my parents made enough money so that my sister and I got by. We seemed to get everything we wanted, at least. In fact, for my thirteenth birthday, my mom got me two pets, both of them dogs. The first one is a husky named Annabelle, and the second one is a dachshund named Topher. They're pretty much my world, though I only get to see them on holidays. I'm living full time at Hammel, and have been since I came here, even though my parents are in the same town as well. I just felt I'd get a better education if I stayed here, rather than bounding off to go home every night, don't you agree? Oh, I've completely gotten off track. Yes, my life before Hammel. Well, I've always been studious, having the top grades in every grade I've been in. My sister used to tease me about being a bookworm, but I love it. I love studying for classes, because I love to learn. Everything has a history to it, and I feel that I need to know it."
And now she was getting that paranoid feeling she always get. That one where she feels as if she's talking to much, revealing too much information. This woman was a stranger, and here she was, spilling her guts out to her. And why was she just now doing this? And how come she hadn't ever seen her before? Was she knew? Or did Tatiana spend so much time in the library, that she actually hadn't taken the chance to look and examine everyone else around her? She'd been here for three years, now. She should at least familiarize herself with those around her, yes? Checking her watch, those brown eyes would look at the woman once more as she spoke to her, knowing it was almost time for this interview to end.
"Oh, my age? I thought it would be obvious to figure out. I'm sixteen. And thank you for having me, it's a pleasure to have met you, and I hope you've gained enough information for whatever reason you needed it. Oh, and next time you need to keep my powers in check? I wouldn't advise allowing me to drink an entire pitcher of water. Just because I have powers, doesn't mean I'll use them against you. I'm not a villain."
Tatiana stood up from her chair, still smiling as she walked away from the table, nodding to the two guards, and opening the door. She'd head back to her room, examining everything around her door before opening it. She always believed there was a problem with booby traps at Hammel, as a lot of the guys liked to play pranks on her. So she was always careful wherever she went. Getting inside her room and closing her door as fast as she could, she'd open a book and begin on her homework.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Kat

How did you find us?: Looking on RPG-DirectoryShow your S K I L L S . . .Why were the books never in the right place? This was something that always, always bothered Tia. She just, couldn't understand how hard it was to put a book back in their place. Every book in the entire library is in alphabetical order. By genre, then by author, then by title. It wasn't that hard of a concept, was it, to put the books back in the correct spot? She didn't think so. She also didn't understand folding the pages in the upper corner either to mark the page that they were last on. Hadn't they heard of a bookmark? Don't they know that marking the page like that actually ruins the texture of the page, and forever leaves a crease? Ah, but she was digressing and had forgotten her original problem in the first place.
Ah yes, the book. The one that was in the wrong spot.
Pulling it off the shelf, she'd tip-toe as quietly as she could in the black flats she had on, careful as to not disturb someone else who might be studying, or reading, or even taking a nap. Though she had learned the agility and grace of a cat, she also was a bit clumsy at times, usually knocking over one thing while she was trying to avoid not knocking something else over. Carefully watching her every step, she made it over to the mystery section, looking over the book to see which author she needed to look for.
The book seemed to be fairly old, the cover looking as if it had been worn, but at the same time this was a good thing. A book that looked brand new, even if it was in fact an old print, was never a good sign. At least, to Tia. It showed that the book wasn't loved, wasn't read enough, and so it wasn't even a good book. Whereas a book that's cover was practically falling off, that the pages were ripping out of the binding? Yes, that was a definitely old and loved book. Climbing up on the stepstool that was in front of the aisle, she placed the book in its correct spot before climbing down and stepping on the ground.
Fingers straightened up the deep green blazer as she walked over to the table that she had originally been sitting at, before that monstrosity had taken her time away from studying. After all, she couldn't have left that book in that spot! What if someone had been looking for it? There wasn't another copy on the shelf, so if they thought they were out, they would've been disappointed, and Tia couldn't have that. At any rate, her mind was definitely not on the play that she was supposed to be studying for drama. Oh well, maybe it was time to start people watching? Piercing brown eyes looked around the room as she looked for someone to look. Someone to pay attention to. Someone who might catch her attention.
