Thread Roulette: Quiet!

Sayaka is volunteering at the library; someone *cough*Chester Douglas*cough* is making too much noise.

It had not been too much of a problem at all to volunteer at the library, not after going through all the proper procedures. She really had to remember to thank...er. Oops. She had forgotten his name already. It was the guy who had greeted her and shown her around the school though, with his son (she thought), and then his wife (she thought) showed up. That was all she really remembered from that encounter, other than what he had told her when it came to volunteering here at the library.

She had to say, Sayaka really liked it. Books weren't like people at all. They weren't just about to turn around and judge you. Unless you got a really creepy book on your hands, then they might. Considering this was Hammel? She wouldn't doubt that someone would be willing to play a prank like turning a book to life with their abilities or something like that.

That...was when she frowned. A noise was being made, a very very annoying noise. Or rather, not that. But a LOUD noise was being made. With a tsk, the child put the book she had been sorting into its proper place on the shelf, and went searching for the source of this noise.

Quiet had to be had in the library.

For all of his idiosyncracies, Chester was at his natural state surrounded by books. Even the school library gave him comfort that sometimes when noise happened around him, he would naturally block it out. But this was about the third time he heard giggles and whispers from behind him and he couldn't block it out any longer.

"You're in a fucking library, could you show a little bit of decency?" He hissed and the girls giggled even louder so Chester pushed his chair back, scraping it against the floor accidentally to which the girls ran off to, leaving him to deal with all the stares.

"Seriously? I'm the bad guy right now?" He shook his head out of disbelief as he tried to get back to his book. He should have read at home.

Ah, yes, there the boy was. Sayaka didn't really pay much attention to the girls departing, she hadn't heard them. The only thing she had heard was the scraping of his chair. Not to mention the brief amount of swearing he had engaged in just a moment ago...hopefully this wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Especially since she was kind of...not used to telling people what to do. Nervously, she cleared her throat, hoping he would hear her. "E-Excuse me," she spoke up, keeping her shy gaze on him. Taking a deep breath, she prepared to speak again.

"Could you please keep it down?" she just decided to be blunt about it.

The throat clearing made Chester roll his eyes. He almost slammed the book on the ground,but keeping his cool, he closed the book, put it on the table and turned to where the tinny voice was coming from.

Like the stares hadn't been bad, here was a four feet tall midget asking him to keep it down.

"E-excuse me," he responded mockingly "Could you please shove off?"

Once again, metal scraped the floor as he stood up to his full height, grabbing the book in the process. "Because I'm pretty sure, I wouldn't have made such a ruckus had those bitches left me well enough alone. And you, my dear stutterer, are not making it any easier."

"Show respect unless you want to get kicked out," Sayaka snapped.

Okay, maybe that wasn't the best way to speak to the boy, but she didn't care; if he wasn't going to respect her, she wasn't going to respect him. Sayaka could be a really timid girl, but when it came to things she was passionate about, she could be really upfront. And books were one of those very things.

The little girl glared at him, before glancing to the retreating girls, then she turned her gaze to him once more. "I did not hear them, so unfortunately, they cannot be reprimanded. I DID hear you, so you can be reprimanded. And two wrongs do not make a right." Sayaka said, a tad agitated.

It was a shame she was so agitated, too. She wasn't noticing the fact that her control over her power was slipping and the book he held was getting heavier.

Chester was genuinely surprised at the snap but he hid it well behind an arched eyebrow. Respect was a touchy issue with him. Mostly because he generally earned it and everybody else should as well. He didn't expect everyone to fall to his feet and he didn't do the same. Respect didn't come with age or status and that was what he believed in.

"Excuse me while I find the respect I don't actually have for someone who doesn't even give me the same due respect by accusing me of something I wasn't even responsible for." He made a dramatic turn around himself and held a hand up to his lips in a gasp. "I can't find any!"

He felt the book in his hand get heavy and he dropped it accidentally. Frowning, he bent down to pick it up but found that he couldn't. Raising an eyebrow, he looked up at the girl and smirked. It was obviously her and one read of the mind allowed Chester to find out about her ability.

Standing back up to his full height, Chester made to walk away without the book. "You can pick that up yourself, heavy weight." He threw over his shoulder, not even bothering to apologise. If he was going to be accused of something, it would be his lack of caring.

Sayaka was beginning to wonder if this job really was for her. She had volunteered because she liked books and wanted to be around them more, and yet here she was, having to deal with an actual person. And what an obnoxious person he was, as well. He could be handling this so much better, but no!

He had to keep making fun of her, or at least, that was the way she saw it. "Why would I give you respect if I suspected you of making noise in the library? And like I said, two wrongs do not make a right. When it comes down to it, you still made noise," Sayaka said to him. He wasn't refuting that, so clearly he had to think the same as she did, that he was making unnecessary noise.

That, or he felt that answering her was below him or something. Either way, Sayaka still felt he was in the wrong. She then frowned at his retreating form. It wasn't right, to just leave a book sitting there like that. Especially considering all his other bad qualities. "You have to put the book back where it belongs..." the girl said to the retreating boy, moving forward as if to follow after him.

"Morality is overrated, little girl." Chester drawled, a raised eyebrow accompanying his faint smirk as he looked down at the girl who was trying to look like the bigger person. "And yes, I am making noise. You are also adding to the pollution. The difference is, nobody wants to hear you talk." He shrugged. Of course, he didn't add on the fact that everybody else wasn't all that on board with the noise he was making either.

He did surprisingly feel bad for the innocent book lying on the floor because he had an ego to uphold. But when she mentioned it, he stopped and turned to face her. "No, sweetheart. That is your job. You were the one who had the asinine idea that working at the library was the best thing to do in your free time. You pick that book up. You put it where it belongs."

Chester didn't raise his voice, even though his patience was wearing thin. He knew the other occupants of the library were getting agitated but he was not going to succumb to the demands of a pipsqueak who thought she was being a badass.

If Sayaka had a bit more of a backbone, she might have slapped this boy or something. But as it were, she didn't have that much of a backbone, and so she let her eyes lower to the book on the ground. Why did this boy have to be so mean...? Even her roommate wasn't as bad as this guy was. He just seemed to be mean just for the sake of it, and nothing else.

And that? She didn't really like that in the slightest. But what, exactly, could she do about it? "What's your problem?" she decided to speak up, frowning up at him and trying to not show how truly upset she was. This guy was a bully, it was obvious. She had encountered enough in her old school to know how they acted, what they were like, and he fit them to a T. Of course she couldn't just leave it there though, he would just laugh her off and walk away. She sniffled a little and looked down to the book again.

Right. She couldn't let him know how much his meanness was upsetting her. "Why're you mean?"
