Hey There Roommate...Ugh (Sayaka)

Harmony made it a point to spend as little time as possible in her room. Although she liked having a space to call her own, she hated the idea of being stuck with idiots. And she considered most of the students at Hammel to fit into that category. So even though she’d been at the school for a while, she hadn’t really gotten to know her roommates. She also didn’t see that as a problem.

Still, she had to spend at least some points of the day in her room. So she bumped into them now and then, usually rushing out of the room as soon as she could while giving them a scowl over her shoulder.

She had just left her art class early and thought maybe now would be an okay time to sneak back into her room. After all, she was pretty sure they would be in class. At least she hoped they would be.

But luck was not with her. “What are you doing here?” she asked when she walked in and saw one of her roommates sitting there. “Shouldn’t you be in class or anywhere else?”

"Huh," Sayaka spoke up on instinct, looking away from the book she possessed (borrowed from the library, of course) to the girl that was standing right there. Sayaka frowned a little bit; she really sounded irritated, huh? Then again, Sayaka didn't blame her. It really sucked being forced to go to this place with basically no choice; she wasn't positive that there was no choice, but she couldn't imagine Hammel just leaving her and her family alone if they had refused to let them enroll her here.

Not that they would have refused, of course. Her parents really disliked her. Or rather, her power. They didn't like mutants, and she wondered what they thought of her, briefly, before focusing on the girl before her. "Er, no?" Sayaka answered. What would this girl know about her class schedule? Absolutely nothing.

"Who are you?" Sayaka asked, knowing that she had two roommates. Or three. She wasn't sure. Either way, it would be nice to know which one this girl was.

Being irritated was Harmony’s default emotion, even before she had arrived at Hammel. And while her mother was around less (she still called constantly) Harmony had found others to fill that role. If it wasn’t the staff members and teachers telling her what to do, it was the idiot students getting in her way or annoying her.

Harmony sighed dramatically at Sayaka’s answer. “Well…whatever. Just try not to be too annoying. I know it’s hard,” she said as she collapsed into one of the chairs. “What are you reading for anyway? Don’t get enough of that in class?” Needless to say, Harmony would never be a member of the welcoming committee at Hammel.

“I’m Harmony. You’re roommate. Geez, you don’t know anything, do you?” Of course she didn’t know the other girl’s name either. But as she saw it, that was her roommates problem, not hers. She wasn’t about to go around school holding hands with all the new students.

...This girl was mean. Of course Sayaka should have guessed at that as soon as the girl walked in, considering how she had acted at first, but still, she had decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. This girl was the annoying one, not her.

"It's 'cause books are fun..." Sayaka answered, momentarily putting the book down to keep eye contact on Harmony. Again she was surprised at just how mean this girl was. How in the world was she supposed to know who this girl was? Of course she knew this girl was her roommate; she just didn't know the girl's name, though now she did. "I'm Sayaka," the girl offered, though she wasn't sure why she was trying. This girl had all the warning signs of a bully, like the ones at her old school.

Technically it was illegal to discriminate against people, but...kids would be kids. They weren't about to arrest a kid for being mean to another kid. "Are you always like this?" Sayaka blurted out for some reason she didn't know, arms crossed against her chest.

Harmony didn't really consider herself to be a "mean" person. Sure she was little rough around the edges and sometimes she poked fun. Okay, maybe she made some people's life a living nightmare. But that didn't make her mean. She was just doing her best to point out everyone else's flaws so that they could amend them. There was nothing wrong with that, right?

"Fun?" Harmony asked, looking at Sayaka as if the other girl had just grown a second head. "Did you parents drop your or something?" Because really how could anything that a person was required to do, especially during school hours, be considered fun?

"Well, I'd say please to meet you, but I try to make a habit of lying," she said smirking. But the expression dissolved at Sayaka's question. "What do you mean 'like this'? Just because I'm stuck with you doesn't mean I have to be all goody-two-shoes and tiptoe around your stupid feelings. So deal with it." She crossed her own arms, keeping her hands in fists. Might as well let this girl known not to mess with her from the get-go.

It figured that she got stuck with a roommate that wasn't all too nice and just seemed...confrontational. Sayaka didn't deal well with those people, not at all, and she wondered why the school had stuck her with this other girl.

Well...maybe it was because there were not a lot of young kids at Hammel, that was probably it. "N-No they didn't! Just 'cause you don't like books doesn't mean they can't be fun," Sayaka decided to object, though from the other things this girl had said, she...didn't really think she'd have anything nice to say anyway. Sayaka had been looking forward, a little, to getting used to Hammel. To meeting people, but this Harmony was really mean.

The Japanese girl frowned at her for a few moments before glancing to the side. "Don't you think we should get along with each other...? I mean, we're gonna have to deal with each other anyway, right?" she decided to skip right past the things Harmony had said, mostly because replying to them would likely lead to more mean things said by Harmony, and Sayaka didn't want to hear them.

It figured that Harmony would get stuck with a dweeb for a roommate. Then again, she felt that most of the students (and staff) at Hammel were totally losers. So she would have been unhappy with anyone she was forced to spend time with.

“Whatever,” Harmony said, dismissing the Sayaka’s retort with the wave of her hand. “Books are lame. And anyone who doesn’t agree is also lame. So don’t even try to act cool.” She smirked at the other girl. Although this girl was definitely an annoyance, she always had a good time pointing out other people flaws.

Harmony laughed at her roommate’s next comment. “I don’t have to do anything,” she said. “Just because you wanna play all nice, don’t expect me to be a good-two-shoes. You are not the boss of me.” She glared at the other girl, daring her to disagree.

Yeah...Sayaka could tell that she wasn't going to like this girl. And she didn't really want to try and be nice to her either. After all, from what she had seen so far, no matter what she said or did the other girl would mock her for saying or doing it. So the young girl nervously bit her lip and said nothing, mostly because that was the safest thing to do.

Harmony was, despite her name, not all that harmonic or nice at all, that much was plain to Sayaka. "I didn't say I was the boss of you! And I don't expect you to be like that! I just...thought it'd be good for us to get along so it's less painful," Sayaka said. That list bit was a little blunt, but she couldn't help herself, it had to be said.

"Just...why're you mean?"

That was quite a bit more blunt.

In Harmony’s world there were three kinds of people. Those who she could not stand being around for longer than three seconds. Those who she considered idiots but still found it bearable to be around, if only for the entertainment of pointing that fact out to them. And lastly those whose she actually got along with for the most part. The last group of people was almost impossible to get into.

Harmony was still trying to figure out whether her new roommate fitted into the first of the second group. Sure she understood that the two of them would have to be seeing a lot of each other over the next several years, but that didn’t mean she would have to be happy about it. And a twisted sort of way it actually made her a little glad. Having a roommate to complain about would be something she could always count on to throw in other’s people face. Some reason to give her mother why she hated it at Hammel, was getting bad grades, or whatever.

“Less painful?” Harmony asked, still smirking. “You some kinda wimp? Poor little daddy’s girl can’t stand it when someone tells her the truth about her being an idiot?”

“Cuz I can be,” she said, looking rather proud of the fact. Blunt, Harmony could handle blunt. And hand it right back. “Why are you such a wimp?”

...Sayaka would have liked it if she had never thought it'd be a good idea to try and talk to her roommate. She was beginning to think that maybe it would have been best to just ignore Harmony. Sure, that would have been rude, but Harmony herself was a rather rude person, now wasn't she? Sayaka really failed to see why someone like her deserved to be treated all that nice if she treated other people like junk.

All those thoughts were running through the young girl's mind as she frowned at Harmony, trying her best to not just glare at the other girl. That...wasn't who she was. She had come here to try and stay as calm as possible, to not let people get under her skin, and to control her ability more. What Harmony was saying was just like the bullying at her old school, and though Sayaka thought she was past being affected by stupid bullies, the words still hurt. Especially since they weren't true in the slightest. "I'm not a wimp! You're just a stupid bully who doesn't know anything!" Sayaka burst, and at the same time?

One of the other chairs in the room was being crushed into the ground, being flattened by Sayaka inadvertently losing control of her ability and letting gravity pull the chair straight down.
