Bell still wanted to talk about Rhett, so Odi only smiled softly, playing coy. “We’ll talk about it later,” he told Jared quietly. Hopefully by then Jared would make like a small child and forget all about Odion and Rhett being together. At least for the night. Odi just wanted to enjoy being intoxicated. Just because it had come up, didn’t mean he had wanted it to. It was best just to move on.
It was clear Rhett didn’t know Odion at all, despite how much time they had spent together. Perhaps they hadn’t gotten to know one another, they were merely in each other’s vicinity at the same time. Rhett’s reaction to the hug wasn’t really a surprise, and Odi was glad for the lack of affection.
Rhett still didn’t want to be involved? Well fine then, that was fine with Odion. It meant he didn’t have to spend as much time with Rhett. Odi smiled slightly at Rhett’s toast, but he kept the hard liquor to himself, placing the bottle to his lips and raising his eyebrows instead. If Rhett didn’t have to hug them, Odi didn’t have to toast them. There wasn’t as much tension as much as indifference. Odion wanted nothing to do with Rhett, and if the blond was going to be stubborn, Odion was going to try and get him involved – he had tried for the last few years or so. Odi would always be bitter towards the blond, and there was nothing to be done about it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. There wasn’t chance for a third time, thanks to Lani.
It dawned on him that Jared and Declyn might know of each other, but Odi decided it was best not to bring that up just now. Yes Odion had changed a lot, physically and emotionally. He had matured and grown into his lanky and awkward frame, filling it out rather nicely. And Jared still had the same playful eyes, but he looked rather dapper if Odi was honest with himself, which was easier than vocalizing anything. Rhett was still handsome, as he always had been, but his looks had simply turned more defined.
“If you start with toilet water, there’s only good… things to go, from there.” Yes, Odi’s speech was eloquent as usual. Especially when the two other boys in the room started to double. Hey, he didn’t know they had twins too! It made a goofy grin spread across his face. Odion had made some prior resolutions which never came true, and he didn’t suspect whatever he wished for this year would be completed. But why not? It was worth a try. If Bell managed to live past this year, maybe his resolution would work out. “Mine should be giving people the benefit of the doubt,” he said, but that didn’t mean he would do that. Really he wanted to get to know certain people better, but only time would tell how that turned out.
