She always has to use a stepladder around the library but that doesn’t stop her
Personality:
Cat is often called timid and shy. That may be true on the outside but when it comes to family Cat would do anything to protect them. Cat, ever since she was little, has been a realist who believed in fairytales. Most people think that this is entirely contradicting. But to Cat it is not so. She knows and feels what others do when they write something, but she thoroughly believes in the magic of words and reading. Even when she was little she would dutifully go to the library every day after school and get a stack of books. She would sit there and read until she fell asleep dreaming of the stories that she had read. Cat believes in people, but knows the harsh realities too.
Cat is in some ways childlike. She just gives off the feeling of needing someone. Being almost always alone she can be hard to approach. If you do break down her walls you will find someone who is just highly insecure. She preys on people’s feelings too much, almost naïve. She would rather have her nose in a book then be out in the real word. Cat is fragile in her emotions if you actually break down her walls, if you do then that in itself is a feat of great ability. Cat would protect her grandmother if it was the last thing she did.

History
.
Four Years Old~
Cat’s earliest memory was falling asleep in the big blue chair at the library. She had been reading that day with her mom and her mom went to go get more books. Cat felt her eyelids drifting off to sleep. She felt safe. That day was one of the happiest days of her life. Her mother had taken her to all of her favorite places, the park, the museum, and finally the library. It was peaceful, nice. When Cat woke up her mother was carrying her on her back. Cat, still all sleepy eyes, heard her mother tell her that she loved her, but they had to move. Cat’s heart sank. Move, but this was where she wanted to grow up. Cat looked at her mom’s eyes. They were on the verge of tears. Cat smiled and said where are we going? I can’t wait to get there with you. Silently Cat feel back to sleep. Knowing that as long as they were together nothing could stop them.
Seven Years Old~
Cat had been living in her small town for a few years now. She was returning home from school and was excited to show her mom the A+ she had gotten on her essay. Her teacher had said that it was amazing. Once she got home her mother had, once seeing the grade, twirled her around the room and woken up Grammy who was sleeping in the chair. Cat scolded her mom. “You shouldn’t have woken up Grammy. She needs her rest.” Sheepishly Cat’s mom looked at her. “But kitty cat she would want to know!” Slyly Cat looked at her grandmother. She did want her grandmother to know but not like this. “Kitty Cat, it’s quite alright do not yell at your mother for Pete’s sake. Now let me look and see what all the fuss is about” Cat’s Grammy beckoned for the paper to be brought forth. “Well now, we have a writer on our hands.” Cat swelled with pride. “Shall we celebrate?” Cat’s mom asked Cat with a smile on her face. Cat slowly nodded her head. “Good, it’s settled then.” How about after school tomorrow instead of your usual trip to the library we take a trip to the city and pick out a kitten?” Cats eyes widened she had wanted a kitten! Cat looked to Grammy. Was it really ok? Grammy Smiled and nodded her head. Cat began to jump up and down! She was getting a kitten!
The next day Cat was up and ready for school she figured the sooner school started the sooner it was over. Cat sat throughout the day waiting, waiting, waiting. She was so excited! A kitten, she was getting a kitten! Cat waited until the final bell rang then she bolted out of her seat. She raced out of her school, down the halls, and into the car just as it was driving up. ”Ready to go?” Cat’s mom asked. “Definitely” Cat answered with a jubilant smile on her face.
Off they went to the city. All the way there Cat and her mother, and Grammy were talking. Thinking up names, what types of cats, and singing the cat song all the way there. Finally Cat’s mom pulled up to the pet store. There was a spot right in front. Cat helped Grammy out and led her and her mom into the pet store. “Wait a minute kitty cat, Grammy needs to go get the reservations at the hotel.” Cat looked at her mom and grandmother wide-eyed. They were even staying at a hotel! In the city! This was going to be the best weekend ever!
Cat ran into the pet store. She looked at all the kittens, from the black ones to the white ones to the speckled ones. Finally she found one almost silver, a translucent way of light to it. Cat held this one up, “Mommy this one.” Cat’s mom nodded and the sales lady did everything the sales lady needed to do. Cat’s mother handed the kitten to her daughter.” Be careful now.”Grammy came back to the two girls. "Look at the keys to the hotel!" all three of them started walking out to the car.
Suddenly, as Cat, grammy and her mom were walking out to the car people in suits came up to the corner and started running towards them. Hushed Cat’s mom and grandmother silently pushed Cat into the store. Cat heard, “Stay here, be still, be quiet, be careful. Remember I will always love you.” Before Cat’s mother walked back out into the street.Grammy just hugged her. Cat began to cry. Her mom was gone. Cat was not fully aware of what was going on but she knew she must do as her mother said. Outside she heard her mother scream. Cat sat down holding her kitten. She let her tears be absorbed by the tiny amount of life. Cat got up when she thought it was all clear. Everything was gone. Her mother was gone. She sat down on the bench. She sat there with her kitten and Grammy until grammy told her it was time to go home.
Sixteen years old~
After the incident when she was little Cat became absorbed into books. She did not really have any friends but she was always finding new authors and stories to read and follow. With Cat now being sixteen she was into her sophomore year. She was alone at school but never seen without a book. Many thought Cat was snobbish but she was really timid and shy.
One day while she was in the library Cat went to the biographies section and picked out a book. It was on Marie D’France. A famous French poet, who changed the way the French thought about poetry and romance. As Cat began to read she felt emotions of great pain and sorrow, yet also of a great longing. She felt floods of French float into her brain. Everything began to seem dizzy. This was the fifth or sixth time this had happened.but only thid time did Cat begin to feel faint. Silently Cat fell backwards losing conciseness.
“You are Miss Novella, are you not?” Cat began to sit up. She was in the hospital. Cat slowly nodded and told the mysterious man that she was in fact Miss Novella. “But who are you? And where is Grammy?” Cat just lay there confused. “Ah yes let me introduce myself. I am from The Hammel Institute. I have come to help you learn to control your powers and help them blossom under care. I have already talked to your grandmother. She is in wholehearted agreement with me. Starting next week you will be attending the Institute.”
Cat just lay there stunned. What was she supposed to do? If her grandmother agreed it as surely the best thing but Grammy was getting on in her age. She couldn’t just leave her. Cat's mind was going crazy. Then the man spoke again. “ You are one of a kind Catherine. You need to learn to control and harbor your powers to the full intent. You worried your grandmother awfully so. She is getting on in age and seeing you fall like that made it worse.” Cat looked around. She saw her grandmother lying in the chair. She was eerily silent. Her grandmother just then looked aged and gray. Not the usual, jubilant person she normally was.
Cat looked up to the man standing.“How will my grandmother survive? I’m the only one she has left.” Cat asked the man this, fully aware that he may not answer. “We will make sure that she is cared for and has everything she needs to survive. You have our word.” Cat lay back reassured. Slowly she drifted off to sleep, awaiting the new things that lay ahead for her.
Roleplay Example
[Jo heard the girl reply with an enthusiastic voice and heard her ask a bunch of question. Jo spaced off thinking of how Maddy and this girl were similar. The girl could not be but a little older then Maddy. The girl had said that she liked hot coco and that her name was Sylvia. Jo heard the girl asked if she liked to draw. Jo smiled and laughed that the Sylvia would ask such a random question. After a few moments when Jo was alone with her thoughts she heard the girl exclaim in a very hyper voice I LOVE to draw!" then Jo saw the girl smile a heart melting smile. Then Jo saw Maren heading her way. With a grin Jo shook her head no when she said that there was not anymore drawing. Oh wait there was the drawing of the butterfly girl Jo decided not to mention this out loud to Maren just yet. Not with Sylvia right there. Jo saw Sylvia and Maren conversing and would nod to show she was listening. When Sylvia asked Maren why she was here Jo found it funny that a seven year old would be questioning a sixteen year old and hurried to stifle her laugh. Jo nodded when Maren was talking to Sylvia about them meeting previously before and frowned when Maren started to say that Sylvia brightness cold make up for three people. Jo started to heed everyone towards the restaurant. She was starting to get cold. Jo Heard Maren’s question and said “Would you like to come along. Alec is back at the house and this sunshine here said she liked hot coco. I was going to treat her on this cold afternoon.” Jo hoped Maren could come. She still wanted to show Maren Jo’s drawing room. ]
