November 2001
Idalia fell into a chair at one of the tables in the lounge. She had some essays to write but she was getting a headache looking outside and watching the rain before and behind her eyes. So with the window at her back and a set of papers spread before her she set to work. This was her last year at Hammel and she was going to show all of those who thought her sister's were better. Rio was going to New York and was stunning Broadway and was working her way up to be an actress. She'd make it no doubt. There wasn't a person in the world that didn't see Rio and fall immediately in love. She was a nightlight what was so special about that? And then Isolade was going into wildlife veterinary soon and Rebecca was working on passing the Bar and here was Idalia working on her first college applications. She'd show them all. And she swore if she heard someone else ask her if she was going to study clouds or if she was going to study being wrong she was going to swat someone.
Drumming her pencil against the wood Idalia glanced around and decided no one would mind if she turned the radio on. Immediately she found herself smiling. Hanging by a Moment was just starting. Idalia loved this song. The hits of the year were just starting to be discussed. Idalia hummed along and decided to ignore the fact that it reminded her of her ex-boyfriend. He was a douche and she wasn't going to let the fact that they had danced to this song ruin it for her. Thankfully she was so far the last of the Tsavaris clan preparing to graduate. No one knew if the twins or Vivian was going to acquire a power. Idalia personally didn't know why three of her sisters had not gotten powers, the other three were still too young to tell. And of all of the powers why had Idalia gotten the stupid weather one? Oh well, at least she'd gotten to name it herself.
Humming along to the music now turning to a more upbeat tune. She bobbed her head and wrote in neat careful script about how life as a meta human has helped and hindered her life. Then she wrote specifically about her own skills and her desired to understand the atmosphere. Oklahoma would take her for sure! And Vermont, too. Though she wasn't sure she wanted to stay close to home. Everyone here knew her name and everyone here knew her family. Idalia just wanted to get out! She sighed as she wrote her feelings in the last sentence. She tore the page out of her notebook and tossed it at the trashcan. Why were college applications so stressful? She was never going to make it! She could barely hold onto it now in high school. How was she going to handle college classes? Not to mention being away from her family and friends! But something in her desired for that. To just be away. Go somewhere where no one knows her and she can start new.
