Starting Afresh
Evony, remember who you are and where you came from. You are loved and cherished above all else and I know you will work wonders in this world..
Such simple endearing words, filled with the purest honesty and a heartbreaking truth that clung to the fibres of the silent atmosphere. Only a father could utter such words with a beautifully raw conviction, words that were warped with the love of a daughter and the knowledge that she would succeed without him. The memory of the farewell was a simple comfort, a final ballad spoken before the coils of Fate turned its ever-shifting attention to the land of the free, America. One such individual was the subject of the heartfelt farewell, a girl isolated in the brave new world who hoped that the lasting sounds of her father's voice would bring her solace during that particular moment. It was here, stepping out of a recently polished Mercedes, did it finally hit the girl. She had made it. She had escaped adversity from across the globe and finally reached the Hammel institute.
The teenager was none other than Evony Vasiliev, otherwise known as the 'Amazing Mirror Girl' amongst the wily band of entertainers she had left behind in Europe. Several weeks after settling into American soil and the blue haired acrobat was still slightly overherlmed with the whole spectacle that was the western world. America was the home of Hollywood, Obama and obesity and it did take a few days getting accustomed to the constant rush of life. All of it was a bit more of a challenge than she thought, especially when she grew up as performing nomad, a girl who drifted with the warmth of the sun and the promise of more money. America it seemed was an entirely different circus, there was the ridiculous political debates and the oh-so cheap fast food that would most definitely kill her if she took a bite. Everything that costed less than $2 was almost guaranteed to be 99% plastic, or so she vehemently believed.
Evony's gaze had settled onto the grand institution that would be her new home, the monumental facility a lot bigger than what she was shown by the the agents that accepted her transfer. The air was fresh in the region, the lingering smog of the cities not touching the pristine trees and clear blue sky, it almost felt like home. Beside her were several suitcases and a large cardboard box plastered with the word 'FRAGILE' on it, sticky tape and strategically placed bubble wrap held it together without the threat of shattering the mysterious object that lay inside. She was wearing a pale red dress that licked against her skinny porcelain thighs and a waxy black denim jacket over the top, several spikes adorning the pointed shoulders of the jacket. Her dainty feet were adorned with simple black flats and her ankles and wrists jingled with a whole selection of interesting pieces of jewellery. The petite girl felt great, the rush of the gentle breeze against her bare legs sending a giddy shiver up her slender spine as she began her ascent up the paved driveway and passed the gates into the well regarded institute.
"Excuse me, Miss Vasiliev do you need a hand? I assure you that I won't break whatever it is that's in there...", Evony's driver stated politely, his gravelly voice rumbling across the breezy atmosphere as he took a step towards the acrobat, pointing at the thin cardboard box.
"Sure, go ahead. If you break it then you pay for it", Evony instantly replied in dead-pan tone, pursing her lips as she gently nudged the admittedly heavy box in his direction.
The duo made their way past an elegantly trimmed collection of exotic flora, neither speaking a word as they took in the sights and sounds of their alluring environment. It truly was beautiful, everything her father told her it would be. But then again, sometimes an attractive exterior hid a vile interior and the acrobat internally thought up the endless possibilities of the school being as drab and grey as the one back in Switzerland. She knew that a dance hall was available and that was an instant plus, dance hall meant big mirrors, big mirrors meant big fun.
Quietly giggling to herself Evony's lightfooted steps eventually took her to the corner of a wide open expanse, the courtyard. Several other students were located here and there, minding their own business and giving the new student an occasional weird stare. Of course they were staring, they had probably only seen blue hair in crappy second rate animes and 80's themed parties.
That's right, keep staring I'll know where you all sleep by the end of tonight... she thought to herself, a menacing giggle escaping her lips as she added a little hop to her step, this was surely going to be fun. New people in a pretty school with endless possibilities, she was certain she was going to explore every single nook and crevice by the end of the week, scope out potential hiding places and such. Besides, no one was going to notice...no one likes looking in mirrors at night time. A dark smirk curled its way across Evony's lips as the thought of using her 'Bloody Mary' persona sometime soon in this school entered her mind, she was definitely going to do that one day.
"Okay, that's fine for now I want to check that everything in the bags are in order before I find my dorm. Thank you secret agent 99", she playfully saluted, totally forgetting his name and making up a new title on the spot. Relinquishing her grip on the suitcases and laying them down in the shade of a tree, waiting for the man to do the same.
"Uhh...well that's new. Well if you say so little lady...enjoy your time here, I'm sure it will be an enlightening experience...", the man awkwardly mumbled, scratching his rather unimpressive beard as he gently propped the cardboard box against the base of the tree, nodding his head at Evony before swivelling on his heels and making his way back to the car.
Not caring to watch the man leave, Evony dropped to her knees and quickly unzipped a little grey suitcase, plunging her hand into a mass of bras and undies and procuring a dark purple satchel, metallic objects jingling from within. After taking a peep inside and quickly counting Evony let out a sigh of relief, her 'goods' were safe and unharmed, all accounted for. These 'Goods' did not necessarily belong to her either...stolen items of very ornate jewellery she had obtained over the past several weeks...a fun little collection that was sure to grow once she had settled into the school...
