Arriving near campus Jason was wearing camouflage pants, a forest green short sleeve shirt, and combat boots. He never usually wore these type of clothes, they just weren’t comfortable, but for some reason it made him feel closer to his brother, and on such a dramatically life altering day he needed the extra boost. On his back was a camouflage backpack packed full of his clothes and other belongings he required to begin his stay at Hammel Institute. It was jam-packed, it was surprising that he was carrying this humongous backpack on his back but he was walking as if the weight didn’t affect him at all. Jason
was unusually unsettled today, he never attended school before being home schooled all his life. What made him more worried was his interaction with the other students; he had little control of his powers and could really do serious damage. He shrugged off his concerns and headed towards the dorm rooms.
“Room 203” he said out loud to retain it to his memory. Now all he had to do was find it, he didn’t even know where he was on campus; he passed what looked to be a courtyard and eventually a pond. Jason walked up to it, the pond water was crystal clear reflecting the sky above, as the sun reflected off of the surface he noticed koi fish dancing in its waters. Their bright orange and white colors captivated him for a moment as he began to feel more serene. A light cooling breeze was blowing, gently caressing his face. Hermit thrushes were singing their songs in the distance near the cyrpus trees. Jason looked up and closed his eyes to take in the scenery; he took a deep breath and exhaled. He took his backpack off and dropped it on the ground, its weight making a loud thump causing a small dust cloud of dirt to rise. By the time the dust settled Jason decided to sit with both knees up resting his arms on top of them. This was such a peaceful place. “Stay strong soldier” he said in a whisper realizing that the only thing he could do was try and move forward.
