Jay had just gotten into the Hammel Institute, though the where he would be staying while here, he still had no idea. Thus this left him with his bags down on the first floor of the dorm building sitting at one of the unused tables. The blond haired youth could not help but sigh as he looked around wondering if this school would be like the countless others he had attended, different. Opening his black backpack he would pull out a black canvas case seven inches tall and nearly two feet long. Unzipping the bag he would reveal a rolled up mat board, a chess clock, and two pouches yet to be opened.
With steady hands the blue eyed boy would slide the rolled up mat free of the elastic that held it in place. Unrolling it he would set down the checkerboard onto the table before him so that the white square on the bottom was on the right. The mat was also notated so that on the bottom where the letters "A" though "H" and along the sides where the numbers one through eight tallying the rows upon the board. Unzipping the right pouch within his back canvas bag he would remove black plastic chess pieces. The pawns he would set upon the seventh row, while on the eighth would lie a rook, a knight, a bishop, a queen, king, bishop, knight, and finally the other rook. With a zip of the other pouch he would reveal a similar set in white. The white paws would be lined up on the second row "A" through "H" and the other pieces set up appropriately with the Queen on her color. An extra queen for each color would sit out of play in their respected pouches.
Currently Jay had no one to play against but that was neither here or there as he move a pawn up one to designated square of b3. Happy with his unorthodox opening he would dig into his bag for a notebook and paper to notate his move as he waited for an opponent to join in on the game. Each piece was triple waited which made them feel good in the hand and made them more stable and less likely to tip over.
