This boy is on fire (Xavier)

Zack walked down to the pond from the training rooms. It was time for his next training session with a new student, not new to the school but new to him. This kid apparently has less control over his power than Dextra does, and has a much bigger temper and attitude problem. This was going to prove interesting for Zack. How much patients is going to have for this kid? He didn’t know much about Xavier, other than what he had been told. But he wasn’t going to write the kid off just because of those things. He gave all his students a fair, even chance, even the transfer students.

The pond was the best place to train someone with Xavier’s power, it was near a water source, which thanks to Zack’s power helped a lot more than it would for anyone else. It was also away from people, and the school building, so if anything did catch on fire, it wouldn’t be as a big of a deal here.

He sat on the grass floor, with a bottle of water in his hands. He figured one of them was going to need it. Though, he was hoping that this first meeting would just be them getting to know each other.

Xavier slowly walked down to where he was to train. He could probably choose to ditch but that wouldn't look good to Dr. Neville who was requiring him to attend so many things. He already had a headache from the loss of alcohol in his system and he wasn't to happy to train but he showed up anyways,

" I'm here. What do you want me to do?" Xavier hadn't gone to many training sessions and this was a new trainer for him. He basically wanted to show up and do what the trainer told him and then avoid people the rest of the day.

Zack looked up at the kid and blinked “oh.. You’re Xavier then?” He did look like he had picture, from what he heard about the fight. He was not biased in either of the kids side. He didn’t think beating the kid was right, but he didn’t know what the kid had done either. But that didn’t matter, the other kid was descent, and being looked after. This kid in front of him still had issues. Zack was here to help him with some of those issues.

“Well first I want you to sit down, so we can get to know each other.” Zack motioned for Xavier to sit in front of him. “Do you know why they paired us together?” He was just curious if the boy knew what his power was or not.

Xavier wanted to keep moving not sit down but he would play nice. Xavier sat down in the grass but decided it was uncomfortable and lay down instead. " I have no idea why they paired us together I just get ordered around these days." Xavier was basically talking to the sky because he never looked over at the guy. Xavier didn't exactly care about his trainers power unless it was to get into his head and then he could freak out.

" Wait, why were we paired together?" Xavier asked suddenly realizing that this could be a bad thing. He sat back up at attention facing the teacher.

Zack was stumped a bit about how to connect with this boy. He obviously didn’t want to be here, which made this all the much harder. “Do you not want to control your power?” He asked a bit mystified that this boy kept losing control over his power and yet didn’t even seem to care.

Zack took a deep breath; he held his hand out to the side, palm facing the sky. He had a little ball of water from the pond come out of the large body of water and float above his hand that was held out to the side. “This is why they paired us together.”

" That's like asking if I like burning myself and other people. I don't know what you want me to say." Xavier was at a loss for words to tell the trainer. He wanted to not set fires at random and light up when he got mad but he also didn't trust people enough to help. Xavier wanted to train himself but had no idea how.

Xavier frowned when Zack started controlling water. It at least meant that he had a less chance of lighting on fire at their meeting. " At least you won't burn as fast." Xavier just wanted to get things over with. " what do you want me to fail at?"

“I know what that’s implying, thank you. And a yes or a no would have worked..” Zack sighed and shook his head. “The reason why I am asking is that you really don’t seem like you really want to be here to control your power, especially after how many out bursts you have had with it.” He looked at the boy with a unreadable face. “I can help you control your power, but I can’t help you if you don’t want to learn. And if you really do like burning yourself and others than that is not my area of work.”

“Just because I can control water, doesn’t mean I can’t be easily burned like others.” He wasn’t like water himself, however he did get dehydrated easily. Zack let the water fall into the grass. “The only reason you think you are going to fail is because you don’t care enough to learn. So tell, why is that?”

" Do I like burning myself and other people, no. Do I sometimes want to punch a guys face in because he deserves it then yes. That doesn't mean fire follows my punch with or without my help. " Xavier was getting frustrated and his idea of leaving quick was slipping away.

" I'm going to fail because adults never help. They just want me off their plate. " Xavier had now stood up. He was getting to angry to be able to sit still on the ground anymore. " I told. Are you happy?" Xavier threw his arms up to prove how annoyed he now was.

“How would you know what anyone deserves and doesn’t deserve? You are in no position to say who deserves what. Because right now you deserve very little. You should worry less about others, and more about yourself.” Lecture, that was a lecture, but he didn’t care, the boy needed to learn that one way or another. He needed to learn that he wasn’t the disciplinary action at the school, and needed to learn to pick his battles, and walk away from most.

“They don’t help because you either don’t give them a reason to, or you don’t give them a chance to. Relationships of any kind, even trainer and student, have two sides of the story, not just one, it’s not just the trainer, it’s not just about them wanting to get rid of you, it’s not that simple.” He watched as Xavier got up, he could tell he was getting upset, “Why are you getting upset?”

"Most don't deserve the chance. Why should I give you the chance?" Xavier was annoyed by now and didn't like answering so many questions. He felt like he was under a microscope and he was starting to squirm under pressure.

"Can't we get on with this. I don't want any more lectures. I have had plenty recently." Xavier really wanted the option to run away but that wouldn't settle well with Dr. Neville. Xavier's skin was heated up but not near to starting a fire. His powers were just acting up because he was agitated. He could also feel his temper rising to out of control.

It was obvious that Zack had a lot on his plate to deal with, with this kid. Not only did he not know how to control his power one bit, but he was a walking firecracker that could go off any minute. Those two things weren’t going to work out together, and obviously the boy already knew that. So, why didn’t he try harder? “I said nothing about giving me a chance. But you need to come to terms with it’s not you who have to give the trainers a chance. It’s us who have to give you a chance. We are not the ones who need to learn how to control our powers, there’s nothing for you to give a chance to, you come and learn how to control your power and we teach that to you, it’s you who has the chance to learn, and we can’t help you if you don’t want to learn. So, get off your high horse, this is not about you. This is about your power, and solely about your lack of control.” This had nothing to do with him giving anyone a chance, he was to no position to be picky about his trainers. “And as far as I’m concerned, and as anyone is concerned, you have no right to give anyone a chance, you need to learn how to control your power, that’s the end of it, that’s what it comes down to, it does not matter how you get there or who gets you there. You just need to get control of your power.”

As far as Zack was concerned, there didn’t need to be any trust in training, it was just like any other class. He taught, the student had a choice to learn or not learn. And if the student chose the wrong choice, then he had to pay the consequences. “Till you come to terms with what you need to know, and get off what you think you know. There will always be lectures.” Xavier did have the option to run, Zack would not chase him, he was in no mood to deal with a student that did not want to be helped. However, Xavier will reap the consequences of leaving, and consequences were the only way anyone ever learned a thing. “I refuse to teach someone who doesn’t want to be taught. So till you actually want to learn something, and not just rush through this so you can leave, we are going to stay here till you truly find the heart to learn.” He was not wasting his time on trying to teach this boy or will not learn because he has made up his mind not to, that was not fair to Zack, but more importantly, that was not fair to Xavier himself; why, because he was the one that needed to learn how to control his power.

Xavier knew he had to control his powers. He couldn't run around burning people that he didn't want to. He would rather not burn all of his stuff when he got mad. He wouldn't be let out of Hammel unless he did learn control.

Xavier wasn't happy to not being doing anything an sitting there being lectured wasn't how Xavier wanted to spend his day. There was no use if all Xavier did in training was sit there so he did something unexpected of him. "Fine have it your way. Teach me something so I'm not a bomb on this school. Xavier wasn't to happy about his statement but it was sincere even if there was a little sarcasm in it.

Xavier had to do something to get himself out of the hole he was in and this was just the first step.

At this point Xavier seemed to find his place in all this. That or he just got tired of Zack’s voice. Either way was fine with him, as long as the boy shut up and stopped thinking he was all that, because in Zack’s opinion, he wasn’t. Especially when it came to him controlling his power.

Zack nodded, but right now he couldn’t teach him anything if he didn’t know anything about the boy’s power. “How much control do you have over your power?” He had a feeling he already knew the answer to this question. “Have you experimented with you power?” Wanting to know if his other trainer actually did anything with the boy, or if the boy ever tried to do anything on his own; again he had a feeling he already knew the answer to this question.

Xavier lit a tiny flame on his finger." That's about all I can control except heating my skin a tiny bit to warm myself up." Xavier did pretty good job not using his powers unless he was angry and did it on accident. " It's hard to experiment with fire." Xavier got a kick out of that one. He obviously didn't have much training but his fire came up a lot anyways.

"You like asking questions don't you?" The questions were getting annoying but Xavier at least understood the reason for them. He was about to get bored and zone out. The fire on his finger was out quickly. If the flame got too much bigger it would spread fast.

Zack frowned, this boy really did need help. Xavier was also out of his mind if he thought he actually had a right to deny help with his power. He shook his head, he wanted to say his thoughts out loud, but felt like he lectured the boy enough with it. “We have a lot of work to do.” Zack looked at Xavier with stern eyes, “It’s only hard if you make it hard.” Really he could surround himself with water and experiment with his power if he really wanted to. There was a lake, there was a bathtube, there was even the pond behind him. The fact was, that Xavier just didn’t want to experiment with his power; granted Zack couldn’t blame him.

“I need to ask questions.” If he didn’t, he wouldn’t know where to begin with his training. He didn’t care if Xavier got bored, these questions were important to the boy’s training. “Have you ever tried playing with a flame on a candle?” Now he was just thinking of exercises for Xavier to do between sessions. “I will also recommend you meditate. It will help greatly with your anger problems, and clearing your mind when you need to.” If he had the patients.
