People United for Safety and Equality (or PUSE) is nonpartisan club devoted to preventing meta humans from unfairly tilting politics to their advantage. Mostly this means preventing them from acting in politics at all, in any capacity.
We encourage adding spouses/family into their histories. As well, details are negotiable.
Keep checking back, we'll be adding more positions and characters to this, including some meta human non-club members as a counterbalance for this plot. We also encourage OC club members, so apply away!
PUSE Secretary
Name: Jeremy Derenstein
Age: 30s
Suggested playby:Arjay Smith, Robbie Jones
Jeremy is a civic minded young man who not only volunteers with PUSE but also helps out at the local LGBT youth center; he spent much of his time there as a teenager struggling with his sexuality. He's a wonderful counselor to the youth there, very supportive and gentle. He's even supportive of the meta youth...unless one counts his belief they actually have more political power than he does solely because of their meta abilities. Additionally, he's very devoutly Jewish and finds some solace in rapper Y-Love.
PUSE Consulting attorney
Name: Stewart Allen
Suggested playbys: Lance Reddick, Scott Glenn
Age: 40s/50s
Stewart prides himself on practicality and cold hard logic. Not only is he unmoved by emotion (or so he claims) but he despises those he considers bleeding hearts. He believes that all is fair in love, war, and the justice system. He may not make many friends that way, but he isn't out to make friends anyway. He's smart, though, a bit of a workaholic, and addicted to the feeling of winning.
PUSE Treasurer
Name: Ruth Murdoch
Suggested play bys: Christine Baranski, Gemma Jones
-age: 70s
Ruth is the quintessential sweet little old lady. She is polite and generous, giving of both her money and her time. She sponsors a child from Uganda, visits sick neighbors, knows who is sick and who had a recent death in the family and who is having financial problems and there she is, with a hot meal on hand and an offer to pick up the groceries and watch the kids. She has a bunch of grandchildren and even a few greats, and a wonderful relationship with her daughter in law Pamela. Fortunately none of her descendants are meta, as she is terrified of all meta abilities.
PUSE major donor
Name: Pamela Murdoch
Age: 50s/60s
Playby suggestion: Laura Linney, Jennifer Lewis
Pamela is the daughter in law of Ruth and they bonded over metaphobia. Her husband is generally apathetic to politics, but will occasionally join in agreeing meta humans have an advantage. She is smart and business savvy, having started up several businesses of her own and then later sold them for a profit. Because of this she has quite a bit of money which she donates to a range of causes, including medical charities, soup kitchens, and metaphobic politicians. She supports a range of business taxes, taxes for the wealthy, and business regulations as long as they don't apply to her. Aside from her metaphobia she is also xenophobic, though she doesn't recognize her xenophobia as such.
Local Sheriff
Name: Timothy Gardner
Age: forties
Playby Suggestions: Aaron Douglas, Chris Bauer
Timothy is a hardworking family man who is concerned about the large meta presence in Pilot Ridge and the surrounding areas. He's seen meta humans get off for crimes that he was dead certain they committed, and has projected this grim desire for justice into an almost fanatical belief that all meta humans are criminals just waiting for the right moment to use their powers on unsuspecting baseline humans.
PUSE Member
Name: Brandon Ford
Age: Twenties
Playby Suggestions: Craig Robertson, Jared Kusnitz
Brandon is somewhat uncomfortable with the PUSE leadership, due to his virulent racism. But his metaphobia is stronger even than his dislike and distrust of African Americans, and so he continues to attend meetings and work to undermine civil rights legislation and activism. He puts on a polite enough facade to not get kicked out, and he has convinced himself that he is reasonable and civilized, and that his prejudices are completely rational. He's also very sexist, a fact that he does a worse job hiding than his racism because he doesn't actually acknowledge the fact that his views on gender roles are misogynistic.
PUSE Member
Name: Heather Ford
Age: Twenties
Suggested playbys: Zoey Deutch, Freya Tingley
Heather is recently married to Brandon out of desperation and low self esteem rather than affection. She's convinced that no other man would take her, a fact that Brandon reassures her is completely true. Before she met him she was vivacious and active in many hobbies, but somehow all of her interests and opinions have slowly merged with his. And so of course when he joined PUSE she did, as well, even though she had never had any problems with meta humans before, and one of her (now former) best friends is meta.
We encourage adding spouses/family into their histories. As well, details are negotiable.
