The club scene in Vermont was different than in New York. Granted, that was sort of a given since it was the city that never sleeps. Rayne had been so determined to forget about her old life when she came back to Pilot Ridge. So determined to create a new life for herself and become a new person. Now that she felt whole again, she knew it would be easier to be happy. But there was still something missing and she didn't want to admit it, but it happened to be in the love department. She was lacking in the emotional connection on that level and with the fact that she couldn't even go back to someone who had been so head over heels for her, she figured she was pretty screwed. Not that it mattered, Cole deserved a girl that wouldn't up and leave him at the first sight of a hopeful opportunity.
Rayne was over it. Back before she decided to be a new person, she'd have gone out partying, gotten wasted and slept with the first guy that would show any interest in her. The new girl wasn't going to do that though. She wasn't going to settle for anyone, she was going to play the field. The best part of being in a club with people that she didn't know was flirting with any and everyone. Whether they had a girl or not, she happened to be pretty good at getting attention. And she didn't need to be wasted to do it. All she needed was a fruity drink or two and she'd be tipsy enough to let loose, but not enough to be pathetic.
This was going to give her a way of not only relaxing, but also having fun and keeping her mind off of the unresolved pain that she felt still. All that was needed was time to gather herself and figure out who she was now. Was she still the badass girl that didn't have a problem standing up for herself but was secretly so messed up in her mind that she couldn't let anyone in. Or was she someone else? Someone who had lost that impulsive anger and instead gained the ability to trust some people. Couldn't she be a mixture of both? That was just what she needed to figure out.
Strutting into the club, Rayne kept her held high, stiletto heels clapping against the ground nearly inaudible due to the heavy bass. She headed straight for the bar and ordered a daiquiri. After smoothing her mini-skirt, she sat on a barstool and sipped at her beverage. Her eyes closed when the vodka burned all the way down and she shivered. Looked like it would only take one with as booze-filled as the drink was. Rayne glanced around, looking for her first target.
