TR: Need My Caffeine (Cee and Christian)

Okay, who left the coffee pot in the break room empty?

Christian Lucas was not a fan of coffee. However he hadn't had a chance to brew a proper cup of tea before coming to work, and he knew the selections of tea that were there were both slim, and rather subpar. Needless to say if it wasn't desperate, he wouldn't even try to drink the disgusting black liquid. But a late night and an early morning forced his hand to pour what was left in the coffee pot into his mug.

He had every intention of making a new batch but when he had tried to figure out how to operate the accursed machine, he was completely lost. American coffee makers weren't really something he'd ever had to spend time on. Heck, coffee makers in general. So while he felt a bit bad about it, he left the pot empty and went to go sit down and try to gather himself before his classes.

Catching a glance of himself in the mirror he gave a tired smile. He had decided that he wanted to make an example for the students today so he had worn a very bright yellow button down shirt with a matching canary yellow fedora. It made him very obvious to anyone passing by and he had already gotten a few odd looks from the other staff. But honestly, no one expected "normal" from the drama teacher. So it worked out.

Giving another sigh, he plopped into a chair and closed his eyes. He heard someone enter the staff lounge a moment later, but gave them no heed.

Cee was fully intending to have a cup of coffee. This wouldn’t have surprised anyone who knew him. He had a reputation for loving coffee. But typically everyone who knew the over excitable engineer didn’t allow him anywhere near the coffee machine (because he was too nearsighted to ever operate it successfully), or near any caffeinated beverage because they were afraid of what happened when he drank it .The last time he’d manage to build what he swore was a zombie-detecting device, and the time before that, he’d attempted to help the track coach. While the man agreed he was pretty fast at the 400 dash for his age, he’d also made him pay for all the hurdles that Cee had managed to break. And after that the staff generally conspired to keep Cee away from coffee.

The night before, however, he’d stayed up too late watching some horror film and, as a result, came into class yawning and nearly nodded off onto his keyboard. It was time for coffee. He shuffled forward into the teacher lounge and, upon seeing the coffee machine empty, let out a heartfelt groan and put his head against it. Okay. This couldn’t be that hard. He was a computer scientist. This was just a coffee machine. He flexed his fingers and reached for the pot of grounds and then the filter. While Cee drank coffee fairly frequently, he had to admit that he’d never made it for himself. He just mooched it off of everyone else. But it couldn’t be THAT hard, right?

It probably would’ve been fine if he’d remembered his contacts or even his glasses. But when he was tired he could never remember, and so fumbling with the coffee grounds resulted in them all over him, the table, the floor and, of course, none in the filter. Whoops.

“That’s not beneficial,” he murmured to himself, then looked around. He could see a very yellow shape next to him. He could assume it was either a bird or, very possibly, a human being in very bright colors. For the sake of his sanity, he’d assume the latter.

“Excuse me,” he said. “Could you offer some assistance? I don’t normally make coffee. I’m Cornelius, by the way. Friends call me Cee.”

"Hi there Cornelius." Christian hadn't really been paying attention to the man until now. "I'm Christian Lucas... Sorry, I don't know how to get that thing working." He went over to the maker and looked at it again. "Umm... I usually just have tea. I'm sorry, I took what was left in the pot. I was hoping someone who knew how to operate it would come along and perhaps be able to teach me."

He shrugged and played with a switch on the coffee maker. Unfortunately it chose that time to break. "Uhh..." The drama teacher was worried now. "That wasn't an important part, was it?" He looked helplessly at Cee for a moment. "Maybe we should find someone who knows how to work this accursed thing. Do you have anyone who would be good to ask? I wouldn't know where to begin looking."

“Oh.” Cee almost deflated, staring at the coffee maker, and then at the man in a brilliant yellow suit. Actually, he could see why he wouldn’t know. People who wore those kinds of clothes didn’t do coffee machines because then it would look brown instead of yellow. “Well, that’s a shame, because I have been hoping for that for a few months now.” He rubbed his head. “It’s bizarre, though, because even when I inquire no one will instruct me.”

That was probably because everyone knew what happened when Cee had caffeine. It just wasn’t pretty.
The grinding, whirring and then groaning noise that the coffee maker made was Cee’s worst nightmare, and he winced. “Um. Probably any teacher. Maybe not the physical education one—ah, what about Kane? He’s the home economics professor.” Plus was easily recognizable even to Cee’s incredibly poor vision. “He might know. But we might be best served just by…asking?”
