Trying To Be Productive -OPEN-

Without Haruka (or even Yuki) to depend on for studies, Hana had to admit that school was getting more and more irritating… and she had just transferred in. There were two things that were giving the girl a lot of major stress right now: one, she transferred at an unusual time during the school year, so there was a lot to catch up on for her; and two, she never did much US history or geography in Japan, so there were a lot of things that she also did not know. She had gone to the library to catch up on her studying, a pile of large textbooks sitting idly on the table next to her.

The place was as quiet as it always was, and there did not seem like very many students inside. Perhaps they had better things to do than to spend time trying to study… the Boston… Teaparty? What, was it like an alliance conference or something? Textbooks were troublesome, and the questions that were given to guide Hana only drove her more and more frustrated. Things would have been different back in Japan. Haruka and Yuki would have been there to help explain everything, and Minoru would at least bring snacks. Here, alone, in a new place, it was all just too troublesome.

Placing her face flat on the desk, books still piled around her and her stationary, as she mumbled something incoherent to herself. Hana finally gave up after a grand total of one hour trying to study because it was not like she could concentrate from the start anyway.

It wasn’t easy to find the telekinetic when he was in a studious mood, mostly because it happened half as often as a blue moon. That might explain why he was a super senior and finally cracking down on his studies. He just didn’t feel the need to know every date and every word. He loved reading but he was terrible at English because he usually didn’t see what the teacher saw and he loved history but he could not memorize things. He liked telling stories so when a history lesson read like a story it was easy. But no one wrote history texts like novels. They were written in bullet points and timelines and it was unbelievably boring because he felt like they were skimming over things. He wanted to dive into an era and not just know what happened. He wanted to know what it was like for everyone, why they thought the way they did, and why they believe as they did. Ancient peoples were fascinating.

Dressed in a pair of jeans and a gray hoodie Lani was setting himself up for some extended time in the library. But it appeared that there must have been quite a few tests this week because the tables were full and the people were filling the hush space with murmuring. He, however, wasn’t here to study however, he was grabbing a new book. A book his teacher had suggested long ago but he hadn’t had time to read up until now. The Great Gatsby. It wasn’t nearly as big as he thought it would be, in fact it fit the story very neatly into his hand. He was enthusiastic to get started, especially with the upcoming movie. He was definitely going to drag Odion to that with him. He wandered around the shelves looking for a place to sit and read and as he did so he flipped one of the pages and started to read. And soon it became much less of a search and more of a half hearted effort to just find an empty seat so he didn’t walk into a wall.

When he finally spied one out of the corner of his eye he didn’t really catch sight of the person taking up most of the table. Sideswiped the books on her table. They tumbled to the ground before Lani could catch them. Normally he wasn't so clumsy, he was usually very good at knowing what was around him. Until he started reading. “I’m so sorry.” He said in a low voice reaching to pick up the books he had wiped off the table. He felt extra guilty when he realized she had probably been napping before he came barreling around the corner. He missed the fact that the Great Gatsby was still hovering where it had been open to in front of his nose before he had caused the books to fall. He glanced at the books as he placed them back on the table. History. Poor girl.

There were little fluffy bunnies still dancing around her head before she was knocked on the head by a passing-by book. Hana stirred up, barely even noticing that half her books were on the floor. She paused, thinking that she might have very well knocked them down herself. Sometimes, especially since the discovery of her powers, her sleep could get a little messy. It was not until she heard the distinct, "I'm so sorry" that she turned, still half-asleep, to see another student with a couple of books. One of them, he held closely to his face (perhaps he was reading), the other was being held out for her to take.

"Thank you very much," she bowed her head, taking the book from the boy. "I probably needed that…" she looked down at the few that were still laying open on the floor. "I'm not very good at studying."

It was then that she snapped out of her slept stupor and actually took a good look at the student who disturbed her slumber. He was fairly tall, with short blonde hair and wonderfully green eyes. His stance was elegant, and she could tell from his appearance that he must be very agile. There were always types like him in the games that she played. Usually they would be classed as a thief, but Hana was not about to categorise new classmates in a foreign environment.
Still… she found it fun to find parallels between her gaming world and the real world. This was a classic introduction in a library scene. The only thing more traditional that this would be the let-me-reach-that-for-you routine.

She took a moment to snap back to reality. This was not Japan, and her friends were not here to get her references.
"I've just started high school here," Hana reached her hand behind her head in a klutzy manner as she reached down for the rest of her books. "I've had do my best to catch up with all the work so far--ah! My name is Hana, by the way, what year are you in?"

Lani ducked his head and gave her a charming smile. “Don’t thank me; I’m the klutz who knocked it off in the first place.” He chuckled good naturedly. Lani crouched on the floor and picked up a few more as she went on. He smiled warmly at the younger student. He couldn’t tell how old she was, she looked about his sister’s age but judging by the books he guessed she was probably a little older. Whether it was the fact that he had found a good book to read or that he was just in general in a good mood but his happy mask quickly fell over his face and it was easy, a smooth transition and soon it wasn’t an act. “You and me both,” he laughed. Studying was definitely not his strong suit. Which was why he was ignoring his work and reading. Lani was skilled at the ability to procrastinate and distract himself from the things that were important.

Perhaps that was why he liked escaping into books so much. It allowed him a moment to pretend his life hadn’t taken the turn it did and it allowed him to pretend for a moment that he could be a hero. There certainly was more villain in him, in the strictest sense of the word, but he didn’t think he was all that bad. Not as bad as his boss at least. It was a confusing thing and something he didn’t have the heart to examine, hence why he was reading and avoiding discussing and thinking about the bigger issues at hand that he certainly should be looking into with extreme detail. The problem was that the bigger issue was so large and so daunting that Lani didn’t even know where to start. He knew he had help, he need only ask. He needed to ask. He couldn’t do this alone and that was killing him. But as this rolled through his mind his face had the same smile, not a hint of distress to indicate something terrible had occurred in the not so distant past.

Lani rose to his feet and leaned back on his heels listening to her. That would probably explain why he hadn’t seen her before. He cocked his head at her, high school, so she was probably closer to his age than Caroline. But if she had just started here did that mean she was new to her power? Lani didn’t know why but the fact that he had been late to his power still nagged at him and he was curious to see if anyone else had been as late as he was. So the question was, was she just new to Hammel or was she new to her power as well? “Ah, welcome. Where’re you from?” He was a curious cat, he couldn’t help it. Lani raised a brow, she didn’t ask his name, she asked his year. “Lani,” he supplied anyways, “I’m a senior,” he said before adding as an afterthought, “Super actually.” He shrugged and shook his head. “What are you studying?” He slid into the seat opposite her, oh well, he had been intending to sit there anyways why wait now? He set the book face down on the page he had on.
