Mason doesn’t usually play basketball in one of the school’s courts alone. Back when he was still a newbie teacher, he usually called his best friend over and had a one-on-one with him. (Had it only been Sam’s athletic skills, Mason would’ve won like 90% of the time. Unfortunately for him, his best friend’s a known cheater and probability’s usually on his side, so Mason’s stats were at 65%). As he got to know more people around town and his coworkers, the one-on-one matches became two-on-two, three-on-three and when they’re lucky, even a full-on five-on-five game. It was a fun way to get to know people, exercise and just let loose. What was originally planned to be a once-a-week thing became more frequent, especially during those not-so-short-but-not-so-long-either breaks the school had.
Unfortunately for him this time, most (if not all) of his coworkers and friends had to bail. Edward had to take his son to the dentist, George had to go home early and manage dinner ‘cause his wife’s out of town, Harold was still in Mexico and so on. Oh, and Sam was still in prison. He would’ve not come anyway, but part of his 2013 resolution was to keep his body beer-gut free. (Not that he already has one, but his brother and his girlfriend’s teased him about his potential to grow one soon enough).
He had been playing for almost half an hour now so his grey shirt was understandably soaked in sweat already. Deciding that no one was around really (or at least he hadn’t seen a student pass by so far), he promptly took his shirt off, used it to wipe the beads on his forehead and unceremoniously threw it by his bag as he grabbed the ball on the floor and continued shooting some hoops.
He was doing great so far, managing to shoot five out of five shots, when he slipped a bit, twisting his ankle, falling on the floor with a loud thud and the ball hitting the headboard and bouncing off towards the door. “Ouch!” he muttered as he grabbed his ankle in an effort to soothe the pain.
